The blue silver tabby tom was not supposed to be here. Well, he doubted his fellow clanmates would have really cared that he was here or not, but it wasn't as if he had sought permission to be here or informed anyone that he was coming here.

Perhaps it was better that nobody knew, he rationalised in his head. After all, he was not here as a DuskClan cat - he had made sure to mask his scent so on the off chance he was encountered, nobody could accuse him of such He was here not as Gorseshade but simply Gorse, a cat of no clan, no rank, no opinion but his own. It was oddly freeing in a way, though Gorseshade knew better than to admit that out loud. He knew for a fact that if anyone back at camp knew he was out here, even just contemplating the idea of leaving DuskClan to be his own cat, he was likely to get attacked or worse. For now, though, he could just enjoy his time out here.

Although his clanmates would not have thought twice about trespassing, Gorseshade was planning on doing so, perfectly content observing the scent line and just admiring the territory. The young tom had just caught himself a healthy squirrel and was beginning to tuck into it when he suddenly heard a twig snap nearby. Immediately, he stopped eating, looking around with panic, half expecting a full patrol to burst out and accuse him of stealing. Luckily for him, it turned out not to be a patrol, but a singular she-cat. She did not seem much of a threat, but then again neither did he, as skinny as he was, but that did not stop him from putting a paw warily on the squirrel as if expecting her to dart across and steal it. "I caught this fairly," He said calmly. "I have not stolen from you."

@Ravenblaze

Quiet paws carry the tortoiseshell swiftly through the undergrowth. She was surprised that Raccoonstripe had allowed her out alone, especially when all she seemed to do was find trouble. First the fox that Roaringsun had to save her from, and most recently the DuskClanner near Fourtrees that Hopepaw had saved her from. She was no better than a lost apprentice...her ears burned in shame at the thought. Wildheart must be disappointed in her, she wasn't nearly as fierce as he was, and every time trouble found her, all his teachings went away. The only thing she had going for her was her decent hunting and climbing skills.

Flamestar hadn't trusted her with an apprentice yet, and she doubted her mother ever would. All she had done recently was prove she wasn't ready. But that was alright with her...she wasn't sure that she was ready for one anyways. For now she was content simply hunting. Which, is what she planned on doing today, until she caught wind of a strange smell. It wasn't DuskClan, but there was definitely someone that wasn't a ThunderClanner nearby. The fur on her shoulders twitched, and she glanced around to see if anyone else were nearby. Of course not...

Sticking to what she was good at, the warrior lowered herself to the ground, and slowly started making her way towards the smell. Her heart was racing, but she couldn't just ignore this...could she? Probably not...

Snap

"Mouse-dung!" she hissed under her breath, before standing up and revealing herself. Forest green eyes meet orbs the shade of the sky. The skinny silver tom put a paw protectively over the squirrel he had been eating, and claimed he didn't steal it. Ravenblaze hesitated. She knew she should chase him off...but her clanmates were nowhere in sight, and could she really chase him off? The lone DuskClanner had almost killed her and Hopepaw both by herself. "I won't take it." she said softly, trying to find her voice. "You shouldn't be this close to the border though...my clanmates wouldn't let you be this close..."

He sees at once that his efforts to protect his catch are not in vain, for the tortoiseshell she-cat hesitates. His blue eyes never leave her as she assures him she won't take it. Gorseshade rolls his eyes instinctively. "I have heard that before..." He grumbled. And it wasn't just the cats of the forest, but other rogues and loners as well. Hunger could make cats so desperate.

As he watches her, she tells him that he shouldn't be so close to the borders, implying that her clanmates would have likely chased him off. "But why would they do that?" He asks, inclining his head. He knows the reason why, of course, but since he is playing the innocent fool, he must act as such. "I am doing nothing to you or your clan. As far as I could tell, this land was unoccupied." Gorseshade makes a vague gesture to the trees and brush surrounding him. "I can smell where your actual border is. Unless you are going to tell me you have expanded your land, I think I will remain here and enjoy my squirrel."

And then, as if to make a point, he sits down and returns to his meal, not caring that he was under the tortoiseshell's scrutinous gaze. "You are welcome to stay," He says, without looking up. "You know, to ensure I do not actually cross your border."

Her tail flicks nervously behind her as she listens to his words. He was right, he wasn't trespassing so he technically wasn't breaking any rules. "Well...some of my clanmates think with their claws first instead of their heads.." she responds to his first question as she slowly eases herself into a tense sit. "We've been having troubles with rogues lately. I had my own run in with one a few days ago...jumped out of a bush and tried to kill me.." She didn't know who this tom was, but he seemed more focused on his squirrel than attacking her. He doesn't share the same scent, or the bloodthirsty, savage glare her attacker had in her eyes. The tom seemed close in age to her, but he was far skinnier than she was. Leafbare hadn't been kind to him like it had been to ThunderClan.

"You are welcome to stay. You know, to ensure I do not actually cross your border." She blinks, and contemplates again turning and leaving...but if one of her clanmates came by after she left and saw him, they would undoubtably accuse him of stealing the squirrel. I'll stay...for now. The warrior flicks her ear, but doesn't reply. "Where are you from?" she asks instead, tilting her head curiously. ThunderClan was all she knew. He didn't seem like a kittypet, but besides the occasional rogue she hadn't met any loners before. Living alone was a strange concept to think about. She couldn't picture not having an entire clan around her.

She explains to him that some of her clanmates think with their claws instead of their brains and he gives her nod of understanding. Yes, it was something he was all too familiar with in DuskClan too, with some of his clanmates preferring to rely on violence and savagery instead of using their brain for a moment. When she mentioned being attacked, Gorseshade lifted his head a little, a brow quirking with interest. Any old rogue could have been the culprit, but in his gut, he knew it was likely a DuskClan cat who had been responsible.

Gorseshade eats in silence for the most part, until, to his surprise, she asks where he is from. Since his squirrel is mostly finished by that point, Gorseshade decides to answer her. "I am from a forest beyond your clans," He explains calmly. Not the truth, but not an entire lie either. "I live with other rogues, but it is not like your clans. We merely share the same dens at night. Other than that, we live solitary lives. I am a wanderer at heart and have never liked to sit idly by. My father lived near your clans once and has told me a little about them when I was a kit." Again, not an entire lie. His father had shared stories of the clan with him as a kit, mostly how WindClan was the superior clan until Sootstar had been dethroned. "Which clan is it that you call home?" Gorseshade asks. "Can I try to guess?" Regardless of whether she gave him permission or not, Gorseshade would act as though he were mulling over his options. "Is it StormClan? No, wait...ThunderClan?"

Her eyes round as she listens to him explain where he is from. She tries to imagine a forest beyond their borders, what their camp may look like. But all she can envision is a ravine like her own, with dens like ThunderClan's. It was silly to believe his home was just like her's, but she wasn't sure what rogues and loners made their homes out of. Bushes maybe? she replaced the image with several bushes with dens dug out underneath, and she was content with his made up home in her mind. It was an enticing thought, the idea of waking up and doing whatever she pleased. Not being told to attend patrols, to hold training sessions, to repair dens. But the cons outweighed the sense of adventure. He was out here, alone, guarding his squirrel like it was the only thing he had eaten in a while. Even though there were many rules in the clans, she was thankful for the structure and safety they provided.

He continued, explaining that his father had told him about the clans. Clans must be a popular topic for loners and rogues to talk about. Her mother had told her stories about her grandmother, Lily, telling Flamestar about the clans before she joined ThunderClan. The silver tom asks if he can guess which clan she is from, and she nods. Is it StormClan? Her whiskers twitch, but before she could correct him he fixes the name. StormClan sounded silly, but it wasn't too much different than ThunderClan she supposed. "Yep! The strongest clan in the forest." The words fall out before she can put much thought behind them, and once she stops her ears burn in embarrassment. ThunderClan is the strongest in the forest, but she was far from a prime example of their strength and bravery. Both of those, she was not. "What is your name? Wait- let me guess." The tortie pauses, tilting her head as she studies him. "Stripe? Uh...Claw?"

His ear twitches as she quickly responds to his guess. She confirms she was indeed from ThunderClan, before quickly boasting it was the strongest clan in the forest. A mixture of her reaction to what she said and her bold claim makes him laugh out loud. "Well, at least you are honest!" He guffaws.

After his own guess, it only seems fair she should have a go, and he waits patiently as she tries to guess his name. "Are you calling me Stripe or Claw? Or both?" Gorseshad asks with a snicker. "Either way, both are terrible choices. I mean, do I look like a Stripeclaw?" For effect, he gestures to his body, and then immediately reflects that he does have quite prominent tabby markings. "It is Gorse actually," He corrects her. "My name that is." Gorseshade stops just short of blurting out his full warrior name. "Hmm, I wonder what your name is?" He pondered, inclining his head to the side. "Flamepath? Or Flametail would be my guess."

The tom snickers at her potential names, and she huffs in mock annoyance. Stripeclaw was certainly not her best suggestion, but naming cats wasn't her job...it was her mother's. She couldn't imagine having to think of names for warriors, it was hard! "Well, you at least look like a Stripe." she muttered, rolling her eyes playfully. "Gorse? I never would've thought that. I think Stripe fits you better." She tilts her head, but before she can say anything, he tries to guess her name. Flametail was a good guess, one that she assumed would probably be her name if her mother's name didn't begin with flame. "Nope. It's actually Ravenblaze. My father was killed before he got to meet my littermates and I...so my mother named me after his love of birds. Blaze comes from...well, the obvious." She says, flicking her tail as she turns to look at it.

Her ears perk as she hears rustling nearby, and she instinctively lowers herself, flattening her ears to her skull. I shouldn't talking to him. If that was one of her clanmates, she would never hear the end of it. "I'd uh...better go."
