BUT MAYBE THAT'S A LIE

"b...bu...bunby?"

even after all this time, he still struggles to say his words. he can't help it, really, he just really doesn't have the greatest grasp of pronunciation on a lot of things. he hopes bunnypaw doesn't mind at all. for the first time in what seemed like weeks, he doesn't feel so on edge– like his anger is all the matters. his siblings easily bring him to a level of calmness that he doesn't think he has anymore. he is glad he does. he doesn't think he'd forgive himself if he was ever mean to them. gently bumping against her, he offers a small smile and gestures for her to follow, if she so wants. she doesn't have to, but he hopes she will.

"do... you, uhm, feel weird sometimes? like you're playing a role that isn't m-mea...meaant for you? like uhm... a dog in sheep wool? or, uhm, a mouse in cat fur i guess?"

he asks for a moment before just shaking his head.

"n-never... nevermind. that's seely. how is everything? is your mentor being nice to you?"

// just a brief gender crisis before the thing :) @bunnypaw

Her ear flicks with the subtlety of his tone, for once not grating with displeasure and frustration. Both of her brothers tend to have natural aggravation to litter their words - and yet both of them look at her, the softest of the litter, and refuse to serve her the same venom. Bunnypaw is more than grateful for this difference. She doesn't think she could be on the other end of Splinterpaw's sharp tongue nor Thistlepaw's rage.

Her tongue draws over his ear with the greeting, joining him for his walk with ease. His chatter reaches her tall, rabbit like ears and Bunnypaw looks at him with a wavering curiosity. Discomfort starts to swell in her chest as she offers him a measly nod, muttering a quiet, "I feel a lot like prey just pretending to be a predator." Perhaps not the response he needed, but she doesn't have the chance to fix it when he shakes his head, claiming nevermind.

She doesn't push. She's happy to keep walking.

"Sedgepounce is nice," she hums with the same quiet confidence, something that only sparks in someone else's favor. "He's taught me a whole lot, even though I'm... a bit slow with it all..." her lips press into a line and she looks up again. "Do... do you get antsy around the borders, too?"
