REGRET, REMORSE, REGARD — apology

They'd hurt others, and they needed to remedy it before the guilt drags them to hell.

With exhaustion creeping into his bones, his eyes heavy and bloodshot from lack of sleep, Beesong shuffles into the makeshift camp as the sun rises with bundles of trinkets clasped in their teeth. It isn't much, he knows, but... It's all that he could offer right now. He sets the leaf-wrapped bundles in the center of the clearing, a curled ear pulled back with uncertainty. Miscellaneous knick-knacks reveal themselves as the leaves unfurl. Feathers, pebbles, shells, all of different colors and sizes. Beesong sighs, his paws disturbing the soil as they shuffle. "I... want to apologize for yesterday," he begins, an awkward genuineness in his vocals. "I didn't mean to.. to hurt anyone with what I said. I know it isn't much, but I've got some pretty things here; anyone can take what they want. They're for you all."

They droop into a sitting position, blinking the bleariness from their bag-ridden eyes. The sharp pain behind their eyes has not lessened since the events of yesterday; it only seems to have worsened, needles stabbing into their skull. They could take poppy seeds, but... They deserve this, don't they?

( ⚘ )Beesong's despondent entrance immediately caught Reed's attention, their weaving paws slowing to watch him come to a stop. Despite, deliberately, being uninvolved with the whole windclan patrol conflict they had been hovering around camp when Mahi had returned with the others in tow. The outbursts that followed had deterred them further from questioning their friend- deciding instead to lay low and let it all spill out without interruption.

The barley striped feline, now stood before a cluster of objects, had a reaction Reed sympathised with most. Doubtlessly, it had scared them. Harsh words and spat emotions rushed hot panic over their fragile mind. But what they had seen of Beesong, his intentions were in the right place. Who's to say they wouldn't have done the same? Truthfully they didn't know. Arguments buzzed by in a haze.

Almost hunched with hesitancy, Reed unhooked their claws from the inept tangle of reeds below them. The courage to begin their approach was flimsy, however the want to console the crumpled cat prevailed. "Th-those are very pretty." A wary side glance glinted beneath their smooth brow, slim head bowed. The trinkets were left on their leafy bed, for they were not theirs to take. "You were uhm, you said you didn't want people hurting others. I think that's- I..." The words were whispered, low tones wavering at a volume only just intelligible. Sucking in a breath, a grimace of unease forming, Reed plunged on."It needed to be said. Sorry- wasn't even involved- uh, hope you can get some rest."

A fleeting, apologetic smile rose with their mossy eyes. The eye contact was held only for a beat before they jolted away. The reality of their actions caught up and Reed's ears flattened as they walked back to the edge of the clearing. You should have just kept out of it, why would you think your words would help? Sigh whistling from their walnut maw, the feline only hoped they hadn't worsened Beesong's mood.

He ogles the wrapped bundles with curiosity, his head swinging with the motions the medicine cat makes in his not-so-subtle observation. It's an apology, he soon realizes, and with this, he offers Beesong a kind blink of his regard. The reaction that had bubbled from pale throat and clenched teeth had been sudden, but surprising? Not quite, their behavior had been... concerning since the day they arrived.

These gifts are for the kids— the younger ones who'd been startled by this sudden outburst. Certainly not for him, and so he stays put. (Even if he really wants that shiny shell...) he remains steady, tail neatly curled around his paws. He sucks in a breath.

"Reed..." the name falls from his lips with an exasperated fondness. The feline is quick to flee the scene after offering what they had to, and Cas can't help but sigh, his eyes soft.

Still, he's proud of them for even speaking up in the first place. Whatever Beesong was going through, perhaps it was something they needed to hear.

"What even happened at the border the other day...?" It was a rare occurance for Ember to speak, let alone make note that he was very aware of what was going on in the clan even if he didn't show it. The dark tom had felt the tension in the air, sensed the hostilities and unease like thick, choking fog wrapping around the camp. While he had not been present for the incident with WindClan, it would take an idiot not to have noticed Cicadastar's condition or the general mood shift within the cats around him.
Being a former loner meant you would expect him to not grasp the issue with clan divisons and seperation of cats, but quite honestly he had settled into the niche of 'us or them' very easily. Loyalty was something Ember understood with alarming clarity, something he grasped tightly with tooth and claw. He had loyalty to his former mentor, he had loyalty here now and it was one of the only things he could claim as his above all else. The option to choose...
The tall dark tom came to stand near Mahi with a not so subtle canting of his head in acknowledgement. Beesong's flustered and hurried exit all but ignored.

GOT A HEAD FULL OF SPIDERS

To her, Beesong had not been in the wrong, they had seen things that the loners had not and even dealt with these other cats. Unlike majority or some of the others (such as herself) she did not understand the full weight of things. Did that mean she enjoyed what or how Sootstar acted towards them? No, not really, she still felt it was a slap to the face in truth, but it wasn't like she could truly do anything. Lifting her head she looked at Beesong who began to apologize and she let a soft sigh slip from her maw and slipped onto her paws. Reed said their peace before running off and then Mahi seemed to be admiring Reed's action while Ember was quite confused of what happened.

Bi-colored eyes flicked coldly before she shrugged and look at Beesong and placed a gentle smile on her maw "You did nothing wrong, I don't think you need to apologize. You had every right to react the way you did" She expressed gently before looking at Ember wondering if she should enlighten the other of the events that had happened or to keep quiet but... they were there so why not? "Just... some words...bad words being tossed around in an angry spitfire, nothing bad" she said smoothly. Well, if that is what you'd considered "not bad" at least.
