  hemlock is a pleasant man on his surface. he minds his manners, he is witty (perhaps even charming), and he is dedicated to working hard and working well. it is easy to get along with him, as he rarely presents anything to not get along with, aside from some snide remarks here or there. however, this pleasantness is only skin-deep. beneath his surface, hemlock fails to be anything pleasant at all. beneath a well-polished exterior, hemlock is an incredibly judgmental, deceitful, and apathetic individual. empathy does not seem to be a word he is capable of understanding.

• Backstory / simplified history
  came to the ripple colony at its founding after losing his own home to a forest fire that left his face permanently marred. his life from before the ripple colony is largely secretive-- hemlock does not often share his life with others, after all. what he cannot hide he shares- the embers that cost him his eye; the gaunt frame that he occupies -but he speaks no words of his family or his life before the colony. since joining, though, he has become a relatively respected member of its small and new community, always obeying the council of elders that command him and his groupmates. some may say he fits in much too well; so much that he hardly stands out at all. hemlock would reply that he prefers it this way.
  
  lived deep in the mountains before coming to the ripple colony. when they moved downriver he struggled to adjust at first, far too used to rugged mountainsides and shallower but still dangerous waters; now he proves effective enough at hunting, but still has much to learn from the clans' styles of life.
