no angst SUNNY DAYS &. raining

they are glad they're able to be outside of camp again. being stuck was not exactly what they wanted to be, and being able to stretch their legs and to truly be able to provide for their clan again feels like a blessing. they don't like taking it for granted as it is, but especially now. the patrols starts off simple enough. quick and easy hunting, but they realize soon enough into it that it wouldn't be that quick and easy as rain starts to trickle from the sky. it's light and tolerable, at first, but it keeps picking up to the point where they're completely drenched as it dumps from the sky, making them yelp in surprise and turning to the patrol and nodding to shelter beneath a large tree. they run over, and shake the heavy droplets out of their pelt, sitting down with a soft sigh.

"so much for hunting, huh?"

they're not even really upset. they've always loved the rain. tranquility sits within them as they listen to the pitter patter of the droplets upon ground and puddles alike, and they tilt their head as they watch the rain fall.

"the rain is quite beautiful, don't you think?"

Water clung to the coarse fur of the cinnamon tabby like a second coat; a while had passed since she'd last been caught out in a storm such as this (despite the absence of thunder and lightning, it felt adequate to call it such). With droplets weighing down her whiskers, Ferndance turned her head towards the world outside her shelter beneath the tree, her stomach growling in protest of the decision to wait it out. Being unable to hunt was like being unable to breathe for someone who relished in the chase. She could imagine the juiciest frogs hopping about, unafflicted by the wet weather, demanding to be eaten... but with no one around to take them up on the offer. Droplets were flung from the warrior as she shook herself like a hound, likely getting on anyone who'd sat close to the white-pawed warrior. Without stopping for a beat, she began to groom her forelimbs, biting at familiar itches and licking patches made sodden by the splashing mud - her saliva was far more pleasant than the rain. Ferndance gave a look to Chilledstar as they opened a dialogue with them, her tail wrapping neatly around her paws.

"Oh, absolutely," she mewed recreationally, not stopping to consider what the black and white cat as saying. Nature being beautiful was not a new concept, and she didn't think she would be enlightened again to the idea by the words of another. "I wonder when it will end..." She added on in a quiet hum.

"It's not all lost yet." Mirepurr's voice rings from underneath a low-hanging branch of a nearby pine. The fact that its needles do little to actually shield them from the worst of the rain doesn't seem to matter; their eyes are closed and they wear a pleasant expression, head raised just a bit towards the sky. "Maybe we'll get lucky and find some frogs hopping around."

Despite their thick coating - or maybe specifically because of it -, Mirepurr likes the rain. It's calming, especially when you're warm in your nest at the end of a busy day. If you happen to be out and about when it falls, well... that's just as good, even if most of their Clanmates don't always agree. The forest always smells so good after the fact, and when the sun starts to soak up most of the wet damage, there will be puddles to play with.

Mirepurr is not one to disregard their companions' mindsets though. They finally open their eyes to glance at Ferndance, regarding her with a curious twitch of their whiskers. "Do you want to wait it out? This one might take a while."

I WISH YOU COULD SEE THE WICKED TRUTH — As loath as she was to actually volunteer for a hunting patrol, Onyxpaw had admittedly been a bit swept up in the moment when she had seen Chilledstar heading out on one. She had been eager to see the leader back in action after so long of being confined to camp, and a miniscule, hidden away part of her had been eager to potentially impress them with one of her catches. Unfortunately, it seemed as though the skies were not in agreeance with her unrealistic plans, a faint squawk leaving the chimera as rain was dropped down unceremoniously onto all of their heads. It had been almost pleasant at first, only to end up practically feeling like they were all having a bucket of water dumped on their heads - leaving her even more eager to follow Chilledstar in taking cover.

At least her own pelt being short meant that she wasn't carrying a new and heavy weight even as she was drenched, desperately wanting to shake her fur out. Onyxpaw knew better than to do so while she was tucked in alongside Chilledstar and Ferndance though, so instead she just stared resolutely at the rapidly muddying earth in front of her. "The rain itself is really pretty. The stuff it does to the ground... well, not so much." Though she supposed things couldn't really get that bad. How much more muddy could a marsh like theirs really get? "At least the frogs like it." Her words were an echo of Mirepurr's sentiment, hoping that the wetness would encourage the frogs out of their various hiding spots. They could be so awkward and clumsy with their leaping legs that she might actually be able to catch one.

*+:。.。 Swiping a tongue over her dappled-and-striped leg, she'd hum pleasantly along with everyone's comments. "Waiting it out is our only choice, I'm afraid" she mews in response to Mirepurr's question. Opening periwinkle eyes, she allows some forlornness to enter their depths, "Shouldn't risk any of us catching a cold, even if it is new-leaf" She watches the rain fall, twinkling and thrumming - only able to focus on the incessantness of it all. How anyone could find this gloomy weather to be beautiful was beyond her! Yet she watched the resoluteness in Onyxpaw's eyes and the twinkle in Mirepurr's, before moving her attention away and towards Chilledstar. She supposes one could argue some good could be found despite the grey and the mud. As Onyxpaw put it, there was a higher chance of frogs, and even some fowl if the worms broke through the soil and into the surface. It made the rain more of a useful event than a pretty though...
Duckshimmer bites back a sigh, detecting her woeful role among her cheerful clanmates.

So, she watches Chilledstar watch the rain, reminding herself of their earlier conversation. About how perfect the cold can be for bringing cats together...Beauty in the gloom. She tries to see what Chilledstar - and Onyxpaw and Mirepurr - out there in the storm, but she only sees danger, and the suffocation that comes with waiting. Find something pretty...her eyes trail back to Chilledstar.

Hm.

Feeling a bit more spirited, she muses aloud "I heard that rolling in the mud isn't a bad option for exfoliating the skin. Keeps the heat away, too" smiling at her clanmates, a bit of mischief in her eyes "When was the last time any of us played in mud puddles, hm?" An odd question for a prim-and-proper lady like Duckshimmer to ask, but she doubts much will come from it. It's a harmless conversation starter.

Jaggedpath's unfortunate luck has led him to be the last to find any proper cover. As the clouds rolled over the sun, leaving only dappled beams from the sky, the tom wondered if they would get a gentle spray or a heavy downpour. Much to his pelts displeasure they were graced with the latter, and in the minutes it took for him to catch up with the rest of the patrol he's downright sodden from the rain.

Droplets slide down his whiskers in fat rolls and his pale eyes squint as his lashes grow heavy from the water. While he wore the appearance of a sadly soaked rat he didn't appear all that upset. He store wore his usual lackadaisical smile, greeting everyone that joined Chilledstar beneath the try.

"Spillin' out the heavens, dunnit?" Jaggedpath mused, looking at into the sky. The water weighing down his pelt was beginning to trickle uncomfortably, now, and he took a long shake to rid it, shedding rainwater and powder white fur in every direction.

"Mud puddles! I could never, gran would kill me. Ruinin' my coat 'n all." His laugh is rickety but genuine as he recalled the family he left behind. It was much easier to fall into the mud, in ShadowClan, but by habit he still tried to keep any clear from his fur.
