horseplace THE SPACE BETWEEN [ ★ ] WINDCLAN PATROL

p1qCnee.jpeg

Horseplace is perhaps one of her favorite places to patrol. Not because the prey came easily among the sprawling fields or even the fact that she remembers fondly their time spent in the barn amongst the loners who lived there. No, Bluepool liked coming here for one reason and one reason only. "You lot think we'll find any wool today?" she tosses the question at the rest of the patrol over her shoulder "I need double the amount that I usually get, now that Scorchstreak and I share a nest" a purr rumbles in her chest, though she makes it sound like an inconvenience, she wouldn't trade the feeling of pressing against black and orange fur every night for anything in the world.

The sun was at the peak of it's summit in the sky, it beams down and warms her pelt in a way that is more than welcome when she remembers the cold days of leaf-bare. Before they knew it, green-leaf would be upon them and she can't be any more excited. It was her favorite, after all, the warm air that made the breeze made when running feel all the sweeter, the dips in the sunwarmed pool to cool off after a long day, nights and early mornings that were made so much better by the brief respite found in the cool air. All of it.

She is broken by her thoughts when finally they make it to their destination "What-" she sneers as the scent of twoleg, stronger than usual hits her nostrils. There, in the earth, there is a deep gouge like a raised scar. It runs a considerable length in either direction, and nearby are strange twoleg monsters with paws at the end of them, one filled with dirt gives her the clue that twolegs used them for digging. Luckily, they seemed abandoned. For now. "Everyone stay back, we don't know if these are dangerous or not" she hisses to the rest of the patrol, not wanting to risk a single one of them. Immediately, her eyes shift against the landscape, searching for any sign of the twolegs who had no doubt done this. "This wasn't like this this morning" if it had been, certainly they would have heard about it from the dawn patrol. A feeling of unease settles in her stomach. What in star-clans name was going on?

The shifting grasses reach tall towards the sky as if in a hungry bid for the sun's comforts- the winter had been merciless and greedy, stolen away whatever warmth may have spared them half as much hardship. He wishes the fields were not layered with such a fine dust of golden pollen... it irritates his nose, makes the pinks of his eyelines water constantly, blurring his vision with the ever-present threat of tears. Bluepool trots along confidently enough you'd think her immune to the passage of time and the seasons' special tolls. "It'd be nice to fill out my nest a bit... though I imagine the nursery's residents will snap at our heels to have some tossed their way instead," he responds with a dryness that doesn't betray his willingness to fork over the plush prize.

They don't get long to humor the idea or consider a particularly round molly lunging at his paws to steal a tuft of pale fur from his mouth before the patrol lead calls for them to stop. The earth here is so haggard, it is like the Twolegs have started a vicious war with the ground itself- "Have they gone mad," he asks, incredulous and bewildered in equal measure. What great benefit was there to usurping the dirt from its comfort as flat plains?

A chocolate-painted calico sits along the fence, her long fur billowing in the wind. "WindClan." Pollenfur scents them on the breeze before she sees them, all rabbit-musk and heather nectar. She leaps from her perch on the fence, her hackles smooth as she approaches the divot in the earth that separates her from the Clan cats.

Their own pelts are frayed, their eyes round with fear and curiosity, as they look at what the monsters have done to the reaches of their moorland. She recognizes the patrol lead—the fluffy silver she-cat is Sootstar's littermate, she recalls with a blink. "Don't worry, these monsters only move when the workfolk are in their bellies. I've no idea what they're doing, though." She shrugs. "Typical Twoleg madness."

She searches their ranks, looking for puffy seal point fur, for tabby stripes on long limbs, and finds nothing. Her kits are not present today, she realizes with a pang. "How are Downypaw and Finchpaw doing? And… Pinkpaw and Heathpaw?" She smiles, dipping her head respectfully to the cats on patrol.

Its nice, he thinks, to see bluepool so happy - and scorchstreak to for that matter - now that they're a pair. And yet... a pang of longing sends aches through his chest, ears drawn back at the reminder of the fact that still, even now, he is alone. Gravelsnap is mad he'd brought kits back - but really, he doesn't understand why. His friend has always been bad at interacting with the clans younger members sure, even when they'd been his own kin, but really it's not as though he'd asked him to coparent - stars, they're not even mates yet. Head shakes angrily as he struggles to push his wandering thoughts aside, nearly missing what the rest of the patrol see's.

" Wh-what the-, " voice trails off, startled - mismatched eyes wide as pelt twitches nervously. How had the twolegs worked so fast? Done so much damage so quickly? It's one thing, to see their monsters roaring by on the thunderpath - it's another entirely to see them here, now, slumbering within the bounds of windclans territory. Head snaps to look at pollenfur - unknowing, unrecognizing her as anything but a once-was. Irispath had shared many things, but her history with his mother - his half siblings - had not been one of them. And so he stares at her as he would any other barn cat, if not with a bit of lingering irritation of how she'd spoke of hyacinthbreathe last they'd met. He... doesn't like her much.

" What d-do they w-want with all th-that dirt? " eyes linger upon the piles within the monsters maws, nose wrinkled - surely, they can't want to eat it?
