camp TIDE GOES OUT 🎀 RETURN

Their day had been ruined! Totally ruined by twoleg silliness! After a bit of staring, she had scrambled her way back to camp as quickly as she could, all notions of fun abandoned cause — someone had to know about this, right? Someone had to know! The twolegs had dug big holes in the ground between the barn and the burning mess... Were they making secret tunnels into the barn? Was its shell impenetrable the normal way, so they were gonna send all their smolders down and up into it? Or would they rather eat up their territory instead? They practically were already! No rabbit or mouse or bird or nothing would want to stay around that awful stink...

" We gotta tell, we gotta tell, we gotta tell... " she had murmured nearly the whole way back. She couldn't forget. This was way too important to forget, she's pretty sure... She didn't really understand what was happening... but it was hot and smoky and Featherpaw told them all to stay away. He wouldn't say that for no reason...

" Sunstar! " Pinkpaw calls, before she'd even begin shoving her way through the heather tunnel. " Scorchstreak! Brightshine! " Those were the names of all the cats she was supposed to call when something was wrong... Maybe Wolfsong too? But with Featherpaw already here and Sunstride coming, maybe she didn't need to... She needed to save her voice for explaining things, also!

She pants all heavy - like when they all burst their way into the clearing. Her head whips back and forth, searching for the cats that would totally fix everything... " We— we saw a thing! By h – horseplace! " Her tail lashes wildly. " It was like — like, um, " Her paw waves in a wild gesture. " Um, smelled bad, and there were these holes... And the twolegs! The twolegs —! " Shoot, how did she explain this sorta stuff?

HEAVY IC OPINIONS! Pinkpaw is a very irrational and childish character!

Firefang had seen how torn up horseplace was not even a couple days ago, twolegs pilfering their land like they owned it. She'd shared what she'd seen but had pushed her wariness aside, she's used to Twolegs leaving the moors alone - eventually anyway. Evidently they wouldn't. Her hackles raise, she tastes the fear scent in the air before Pinkpaw and her entourage of apprentices burst through the gorse. Her yowl is likely to stir even the drowsiest cats from their slumber, it captures her attention but the young she-cats words are not informative. They never are, she babbled still like a kit, one of the others would need to relay it properly. Her muzzle crinkles distastefully.

"One of you take over before this fuzzbrain bites her tongue off tryna' explain what's goin' on" she demands her gaze resting on the other apprentices imploringly. Her tail lashes behind her, she's nervous if anything else and impatient to hear what has happened now and the consequences it'd bring to them. She takes a breath trying to still her racing heart.

Cottonpaw has not coughed yet, but the lingering smoke from even being that close tickles her throat in a lingering uncomfortable way. She remains quiet on the way home, watching the sky and occasionally looking over her shoulder. She oddly felt as if the flames would race after them, clawing across the moors to capture them before they could save their kin. Pinkpaw took the helm of the situation, however in garnering attention the she-cat fumbled, losing her steam as well as her track of mind.

Firefang - funnily enough, a current-event name given the situation - snaps at the lot of apprentices, herself included. Cottonpaw furrows her brow, snipping back with, "Bite your own tongue and swallow it. Maybe then she can get to the point." She thinks horribly of her own childhood, some days spent idolizing Firefang and Icebreath - and how the opposite continues on. She contemplates her own internal monologue, however given the gravity of the situation, she let's it go. There's much more that's important than failed heroes.

Nonetheless, she keeps her focus on the warriors, and hopefully Sunstar and Wolfsong, should the two arrive by then - "There's a fire on the moors," she says, and no later does she add, "The wind is blowing it this way."

જ➶ "No need to be snippy with eachother." The pale ghost spoke carefully as he approached the situation. Neither were enemies to one another so he didn't see the reason for their...less than friendly tones. His eyes narrowed, squinted upon the gathering of apprentices as he pulls his ears forward. Seeing how out of breath they all were when they had burst into camp was what made him get up in the first place. But now hearing what was happening makes his eyes widen and his tail flick with unease. A fire on the moorlands. "I'll get Sunstar." He turns then and quickly bolts off to fetch the leader as he said he would. Shifting to peer into the others den. " @SUNSTAR , I'm sorry to interrupt but we need you urgently. A group of apprentices came back and they say there is a fire on the moorlands and the wind is bringing it here." Turning he leaves to get back as soon as he can.

It's near horseplace but thank goodness the barn isn't in danger. Now he needs to focus on protecting his new home and those within it.

Featherpaw's heart had not stopped thumping, but she refused to show any fear. She had been silent for the journey home, determination agleam in a glare of yellow- but of course, as soon as they burst into camp it was Pinkpaw's clamouring tone that pitched into the air, calling desperately for Sunstar (and Wolfsong, and Brightshine, but Featherpaw did not have the heart to correct her at a time like this).

Firefang's presence was as horrendous as always- Cottonpaw came to Pinkpaw's defence quickly, and Featherpaw punctuated her retort with a furious, bladed glare in the warrior's direction. No need to be snippy with each other, said Snowglare, and the marble-tabby tom snorted in building annoyance. "She deserved it," Featherpaw snapped back. The warrior shouldn't have barrelled in and insulted Pinkpaw if she hadn't wanted a confrontation.

Bristles lay a little flat- at least, to their usual spininess then. A white-tipped tail flicked lightly against Pinkpaw's side, trying to soothe her in some odd, guarded way. "Twolegs were just standing, watching the flames." Featherpaw's eyes narrowed again, and she looked somewhere beyond seeing. The bleeding shadows of the onlookers flashed again in her memory, and re-sparked their strange aura of smugness. "Like they were p-p-puh... p-proud of it."

༄༄ Her apprentice calls out her name, and Scorchstreak reluctantly rises from her self-appointed task of weaving some new flowers into she and Bluepool's nest. Hearing Pinkpaw's voice interspersed with panting brings a sense of urgency to the situation, and the lead warrior's dappled paws move quickly as she strides over to join the group that's just entered camp. Her apprentice attempts to tell them all what she'd seen, but she seems too worked up to form a proper sentence, and Firefang feels the need to step in with sharp words. Scorchstreak takes a step to place herself between the dark-furred warrior and her apprentice, glaring coldly at the other she-cat. She does not need to snap at Firefang, for Cottonpaw does it in her stead; Snowglare attempts to order their silence, but Featherpaw sticks up for her friend as well.

"Pinkpaw, take a breath," she orders in a voice softer than her usual sharp commands. Whatever has Pinkpaw so panicked is clearly out of the ordinary—and as Cottonpaw explains it to them, the reason for the younger calico's panic is made clear.

Fire. Spreading across their territory, and headed in the direction of camp. Snowglare offers to retrieve Sunstar—the best course of action, of course, is to inform their leader and follow whatever he believes the best course of action to be. But until the sunlit tom arrives on the scene, it is up to her to sort through the information that they have provided. A fire on the moor nearby the horseplace, with twolegs happily watching it… "They weren't attempting to put out the fire, at all?" She asks, hoping that one of the younger cats will clarify.

The apprentices, headed by a tiny calico, burst into camp with heated breath and quivering flanks. Their pelts are bushed, eyes wide with fear. Bluefrost's ears flick forward as she attempts to catch Pinkpaw's stuttered, nonsensical explanation. Firefang sneers at the young she-cat's attempt to tell the Clan what's happening, and is quickly corrected by Cottonpaw. Her sister and Featherpaw tell them there is fire near the Horseplace, raging in their camp's direction, and that the Twolegs had just stood and watched the moors burn.

Scorchstreak questions if the Twolegs were attempting to put out the fire at all, and Bluefrost murmurs, "Fire normally has every creature panicking. It is not natural that the Twolegs were not afraid." Her heart stammers in her chest, fear beginning to climb her throat. Headed this way, the apprentices had exclaimed. She looks beseechingly at the tortoiseshell lead warrior. "What can we do?"

It's pinkpaw's shouting that draws the tom's attention - nothing strange, really, pinkpaw has always been loud. What is however, is what she's yelling about. He catches only snipits at first, blue eyes flitting back and forth from where eh hovers at the nursery's maw - twolegs. horseplace. fire. firefang being annoying as ever. Frown crosses his face, stomach churning even as tail flicks out to make sure none of the younger denizens can manage to escape. This... this is not a conversation for small ears. stars, he's not sure this is a conversation he wants to hear, either. He's heard stories of what fire is like - of what had raged on in shadowclans territory, had gone on to ravage thunderclans. And now, it's here - and the twolegs are doing nothing. Eyes shutter for a moment as he just breathes - surely... surely, the lack of panic must mean something. Maybe they're fine - maybe its not that bad then, if there is no panic. it'd been apprentices who'd seen it after all... maybe it just sounded worse than it is? He can only pray, holding onto that fading sense of hope - and even still, as bile creeps up his throat, he can't seem to convince himself that his thoughts are true.

Fire. A sense of dread settles in the she-cats stomach. She recalls the way in which many of her clanmates had pointed to Sunstar when the day had turned to night days ago, she prays to Starclan they do not raise their hackles towards her (more so then they already do) believing in omens. Right now it's not about her and her distrust for those she sleeps with her neck exposed to, there's danger on the moors and she's not all keen to sit around and wait for the stench of smoke to fill her lungs. Theres a great irony in the fact she's never been around her namesake - her mother had told her about the dangers of fire about the way it scorched fur and flesh from even the most thick skinned animals, how smoke itself was a killer alongside the blazing flames that left nothing behind but cinder and soot.

Her heckling had gotten her an answer quicker than waiting around for Pinkpaw to remember how to talk. Still she narrows her eyes at Cottonpaw and lashes her tail irritably at the Medicine cat but she says nothing; she's not mousebrained enough to make an enemy of the younger of the two healers. Still she thinks the prized daughter of their former leader needs to learn to shut her trap - Icebreath knew how to do just that but her training must've fallen off when Wolfsong introduced her to the art of dung-talking.

She tears her glare away as one of the barn-cats goes tearing off to formally rip Sunstar from his den. Sometimes she swears her clanmates run around like befuddled sparrows in a windstorm whenever anything goes on without their leader to point them in the right direction. She huffs at Featherpaw who only gives more words out about the situation, the apprenticed annoyed her greatly but this was no time for fights. Besides picking on her was like picking on a younger Periwinklebreeze, she wouldn't be able to do much more then hiss a bunch of stuttered curses and wait for her precious fathers to save her. She's not all too surprised that the two-legs were acting unafraid, those creatures were an enigma and completely out of the depth of her understanding. They showed no fear wherever they walked, had managed to tame sharp toothed spitting hounds and had happily tried to invite wild cats closer fearing not for their claws or fangs.

She watches Scorchstreak as the older she-cat begins to speak but she gives no orders only asking questions that to her would just waste time. Bluefrost asks what they should do and she doesn't care for how little authority she poses she speaks up. "We might need to move if it's coming this way" she meows staring up towards the sky and beyond trying to see if she can see any smoke rising. She grits her teeth uneasily "If not I can run that way now, I'm certain I can outpace the fire if it comes runnin' at me - at us" there's cockiness in her tone, a pride at what she was at her Moor-Running capabilities. Firefang truly believed she'd blaze past the very destruction she was named after - maybe that's what she was trying to do all along. But today it's quite literal.

༄༄ Bluefrost looks to her, expectant. What can we do? Scorchstreak does not have an immediate response for the younger tunneler. Her nerves are alight with concern, images of flames tearing across the moorland racing through her mind. "We need to keep an eye on the fire. If it gets too close to us, everyone in camp will be in danger." The elders, the kits… they will have to evacuate camp long before the fire reaches it. Sending any of her clanmates out into the territory when it is currently being ravaged by flame seems a risk, but she sees no other option. "Snowglare, I want you to go to the horseplace. Keep track of the fire, and how quickly it's moving. If we are lucky, the wind will change direction and keep it away from us." But of course, she does not want to send one warrior on their own into a potentially dangerous situation. "Take Dimmingsun with you."

Next… they need to consider evacuation. She hopes that it will not come to such an option, but it is better to have a plan than to be caught off guard. "Periwinklebreeze. I want you to check our border with Highstones, and take Snakehiss along with you. If the path is clear, we can attempt to move the clan in that direction if necessary." It is a long shot, and a feeble thing to hope that they could escape their territory by taking up residence that far away, but perhaps WindClan will get lucky. "The same goes for you," she continues, turning to Firefang. She may not like the dark-furred warrior, but she is strong and capable despite her questionable loyalty to WindClan. Still, she cannot be trusted to go on her own. The calico looks around, spotting another warrior nearby. "I want you to check on Fourtrees, in case Highstones is cut off. Take Slateheart with you." If anyone can keep Firefang in check, it is the black and white warrior. He is perhaps one of Scorchstreak's most favored moor runners; his loyalty to his clan, despite who his father was, is commendable.

Something in Scorchstreak says that she should remain in camp, at least until Sunstar speaks on the matter. But she is no leader, and itches to go out into the territory to see firsthand what is going on. If she has Bluepool remain in camp, then at least there will be one lead warrior to make decisions alongside Sunstar, and she can ensure her mate's relative safety. "Bluefrost, help me find Rattleheart, if you will. The three of us will check the tunnels for smoke, and see which paths would be safe for our smaller clanmates to traverse." She then turns her gaze upon the group of apprentices then, her expression stony. They are all likely tired from their run back to camp, and she sees no reason to send them back out again. "As for all of you… Stay in camp. Let every warrior you see know to remain in camp for the time being, as well. Help to keep the kits and elders calm if they seem to be panicking. You will help them get out of camp if we need to evacuate." She still awaits Sunstar's word, but coming up with some kind of plan or escape route will be easier if they are all in one place, she reasons. Panic will not help them here, either; it takes a clear mind to stay safe from danger.

Dimmingsun wishes he could greet the returning apprentices the way he usually would. Pinkpaw is in the lead, and those eccentric eyes and panicked voice are more than enough to prove she is not just on a high-energy day. His tail lashes once, twice, letting his frustration over Firefang's unnecessary comment turn into adrenaline, into something useful.

His eyes shift over to the sky way above the gathering cats' ears, imagining dark clouds of smoke climb the horizon. It doesn't make sense, what the 'paws are saying — but he knows they're true, that none of them are kittish enough to scare the entirety of Clan just for a fleeting joke. Hackles rise as the reality of the situation starts seeping in, and Dimmingsun is already ready to bolt and do something, walking in a straight line and then turning, repeating, willing for Sunstar or a lead warrior to give him an order instead of letting him agonize and wait.

Scorchstreak comes to his aid.

"Let's go," he simply says to Snowglare, barely waiting for him to make it out of the camp before Dimmingsun's own pelt is gone in a flash.

There was NO way she ruined her day out, to run back to camp and warn everyone... just to be called a fuzzbrain! She doesn't have the words to explain what she saw, but she does have the words to huff, " I am not a fuzzbrain! " She doesn't totally get what Cottonpaw says in reply, but she does get that Cottonpaw is Pinkpaw's friend! Not Firefang's, so there! She's happy for Cottonpaw to pick up where she left off. It gives her plenty of time to stick her tongue out at mean Firefang! She was snippy first, so Pinkpaw would be snippy all she wants! Take that, Snowglare! The flick of a tail against her side tells her that she's not alone.

Scorchstreak arrives, the cat she really wanted to see. Pinkpaw does what she tells her to do, taking a big gulp of air that fills up her cheeks, and then letting it out. "Nuh - uh, " she answers then. " Maybe... they knew it was gonna happen? Cause there were these big holes between Horseplace and the burning... " she shares, shuffling her paws.

The fire, that's what it was. She remembers stories from somewhere... " Can fires really move that much? " she asks in a mumble. She guesses so, because Scorchstreak then orders a bunch of cats to a bunch of places... Was it that bad? " What can I do, Scorchstreak? " she asks, standing a little straighter.
