INTO LIVING UP TO GENDER ROLES AND HAVING ABSENT MINDS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━INTO LIVING UP TO GENDER ROLES AND HAVING ABSENT MINDS
periwinklebreeze ❀ 22 moons ❀ demi-boy ❀ windclan queen
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━That's the number of mentors periwinklebreeze has had.
The number of mentors he has lost.
Jaggedoak had been an alright mentor - by far the most understanding, but also the most paws-off. He'd never been made to fight, to shed blood - had been allowed to stick with what he knew he could do well. The safe, the comfortable. Even when he'd wandered off and ended up laying beneath the snapping jaws of a fox he'd rested assured in his safety until his brother and friends had arrived.
Snowshadow had been great - his big brother. It'd been more fun spending time learning under his wing than anything else, even if he and Vulturemask had pushed and pushed and pushed him to learn. To fight. To kill. The world wasn't safe for anyone, let alone him - not under Sootstars rule and with Riverclan and Shadowclan forever nipping at their heels like starved dogs. He'd agreed in the end - the week thing he was.
He's lost both of them, in differing ways, but it'd been nothing compared to this.
Word of Bluepool's death shakes him.
At first, he thinks it must be a joke - that he has heard wrong. Bluepool is a lead warrior, strong and fast and learned. She can't possibly have died - not to Riverclan. Not to the gorge. But time passes, and nothing changes. No miraculous recovery, no sudden reappearance. Of all his mentors, Bluepool was, by far, his favorite. And now she's gone. Of all his mentors, she was the one to believe - he could be better. Was better. And he had, hadn't he? He'd gotten his warrior name at last - late, but far better then never - and gone on the journey. Come back, sided with Sunstar (with Bluepool of all cats) and taken down Sootstar. Become a lead warrior in her paw steps.
He'd thought they'd have longer.
The rage - the hurt - that he feels is all encompassing. The queen hardly knows what to do with himself - nothing is right anymore. And then he sets eyes upon familiar frame, and he's moving before he knows it. " Fight me, " he says, voice harsh and strong for once. He needs an outlet - a release. And tearing into Firefang always seems to do just the trick.

Don't you think it's funny how they tell us how to live?
Don't you think it's funny how we're all delinquent kids?
