camp I'LL GIVE YOU EVERYTHING I HAVE // bringing in kits

It was awful to walk back to camp in this weather and he knew they had to hurry before the kits got too cold. It was a battle against the clock but Vulturemask refused to give up. He had promised to protect them, and vowed it to himself. Just hold on we are soon there. He thought as he carried two of his siblings in his mouth, Bumblebreeze carrying the last one. Vulturemask was the one leading the way, his eyes narrowed as he pushed himself through the snow and cold icy wind. It felt like an eternity before they finally arrived back to camp as he came through the tunnel. Cold and covered with the chilling snow the pitch black cat contunie on his way forward ignoring the looks he was being given from his clanmates. They where not the ones he cared about right now.

His destination was the nursery den and nobody could stop him as he marched forward to enter that much warmer den to protect the newborns from the cold raging wind outside. He found the nursering queen he had been searching for, who he had talked with beforehand. Snowfeather. A mother who not that long ago had lost her own litter. She would look at him with understanding, and Vulturemask would place the two kits by her belly so they could seek warmth and comfort from her. Vulturemask expected that Bumblebreeze had followed to do the same with the last one.

Vulturemask had to tear his eyes away from the kits as he turned to head back outside, assuming there would be a lot of questions awaiting him. Many angry and confused faces. " I need to speak with Sootstar." He would be quick to say as he stood outside his eyes burning with determination. He could only hope that he could convince Sootstar to accept these kits, to take them in. He knew his plan had been risky, impulsive even. But he couldn't stand having to let them stay with that wicked creature any longer. He would do whatever it took to make them stay. Even go down on his knees begging if he had to. Anything to give them a bright future.

Reactions: BUMBLEBREEZE.
Vulturemask and Bumblebreeze must be close to the last cats Weaselclaw would have ever expected to bring random kits into their camp, into their nursery, and ignore the obvious questions in their Clanmates' eyes. One cat, nervous about the situation and the strangely calm, collected expression on the newly-made black warrior's face, had alerted Weaselclaw. The tabby is quick to finish his task, striding to the mouth of the nursery to see Snowfeather curled around three delicate kits.

Weaselclaw stares at the nursing queen for a moment, but there is no anger in his gaze, no outrage. She's a queen nursing orphaned kits -- it's her duty, and he suspects it's something deeper, ingrained in a mother. He blinks at her and withdraws from the nursery without comment. Vulturemask is seeking Sootstar now.

The lead warrior's tone is surprisingly mild when he approaches the two young toms. "Where did you get those kits?" His face is neutral as he eyes first Vulturemask, then Bumblebreeze. "Are they... yours?" He hopes that isn't the case -- because that would mean one of them had cavorted with some she-cat outside of their borders, and that would condemn these kits. But he does not make assumptions; he simply waits for an explanation while another cat fetches his mate.

There is a lot that Peri wants to tell Vulturemask. It is this that has his attention on the tom the moment he strides into camp, bumblebreeze at his side. Weary gaze widens at the sight of kits of all things - tiny, fragile looking kits. They can't be hardly a moon old at all. "Th-th-there so small," he murmurs, trailing along absently to peak into the nursery. He wonders f he was that small once. He's not the biggest cat, but his limbs have always been long and limber as far back as he can remember.

A half-hearted glare is turned onto Weasleclaw at the toms words, though he doesn't say it meanly or even accusingly the thought sets him on edge. If they were, he'd likely be losing his friend. He doesn't think they are though - having a mate, having kits... it doesn't seem like something Vulturemask would do... but then again, theres a lot of things he thought he'd never do and had turned out to be wrong about. Shaking his head, he pushes past his confusion and observes the situation instead.

Kits were usually a celebrated addition to the clan, not so much now. They were more mouths to feed, more cats to get sick, more cats to lose. Sootstar is pregnant herself but her own litter of kits would not be due till late leaf-bare, by the time their eyes opened, and their minds awakened they'd practically be new-leaf kittens. Yet her maternal instincts are hardwired, especially now, it was unlikely the blue smoke would nudge any child away.

With tired eyes she moves to stand beside her mate, noting Periwinklepaw who was at the scene as well. It's not long until her entire attention lands on Vulturemask and Bumblebreeze, a confused look washing over her features. "...Yes, do explain." Prompts the long-furred cat.

He had to admit it took everything inside of him to not turn back and snap at Weaselclaw to not dare get any close to his younger siblings his trust in this tom being none existent. If it was something he had learned recently it was that any adults in this world was capable to be monsters and Weaselclaw wouldn't hesitant to bring kits into a bloodbath all for pride. Knowing better than to snap at their leaders mate though he had to be satisfied to just watch them from the corner of his eye when the lead warrior checked the kits out. Vulturemask didn't feel the same towards Perwinklepaw though who too had come forward to investigate the kits he had brought in. He was fine with them to be close to his siblings.

Vulturemask stood frozen in place until Weaselclaw joined him outside and to his surprise the lead warriors tone was far softer then he ever had expected it to be. He didn't snarl or scold him like he had thought they would do. Had he heard right though?. Weaselclaw played with the idea that this kits could be his own?. That was an bemusing thought considering he was still to young to have kits on his own, not even twelve months old. Not even once had it crossed his mind to become a father of his own one day. But he did consider the outcome if he would lie about such a thing. He doubted the lead warrior would be pleased neither would Sootstar. Bad route to go. No, he would not stray away from the truth more then he necessary needed. " No, they are not mine." he was planning to explain more but it was then Sootstar arrived in perfect timing.

His gaze would instantly leave the lead warrior to instead settle them on their leader who looked just as confused but she did not look angry or upset which might be a good sign. Vulturemask thought his words out carefully as he started to approach them, to get closer. " They are my half-siblings. My mother abandoned them, leaving their fate to me. I couldn't just leave them out there in the cold so i brought them here. " he explained while leaving out details. Vulturemask had thought about leaving out entierly that he was related to them but that plan was risky if it ever would come out. In the end he put almost all of the cards on the table only hoping that Sootstar would understand. " I know its the worst timing for windclan to have more kits but still i'm asking you to not cast them out to let them stay to grow up to become warriors in this clan. I will do whatever you want in return Sootstar even leaving if my siblings can replace my place in this clan." He tried to keep himself composed but it was clear he was putting himself in a vulnerable position here. He looked worried underneath his cold gaze, worried for his siblings fate as he turned his attention to the snow. He was completely at her mercy knowing he was demanding alot, a selfish request but he didn't care. The world was build by selfish decisions and if it would save his kin from a tragic fate then so be it. As long his siblings survived he didn't care what happend to the rest of the world around him.

bumblebreeze hadn't known what to think. vulturemask's mother was terrible, spitting venom and vulgarity toward vulturemask whenever she could. it made bumblebreeze upset, uneasy even, but he couldn't do anything. when they had found the kits it was... heartbreaking. they had to get them away, and... that's what they did. both of them. bumblebreeze would have risked it all for vulturemask, and if this task was in the list of things— then so be it. he walked behind the other, one of the kits in his jaws. he didn't get how it could be so small... so frail. it made him sad... but he hadn't time for that right now. he gently placed the kit by their sibling, before standing beside vulturemask, tail lashing uneasily the moment sootstar was mentioned. vulturemask put too much faith in their leader, but bumblebreeze was not going to judge him. not in a million stars. taking in a deep breath, he simply listened, gaze barely moving from vulturemask as he pressed closer to the tom, trying to comfort him. it isn't until he hears him offer himself that his body tensed. no. that wasn't... part of the plan. vulturemask couldn't leave– he couldn't.

"that's not... you can't... they need you... i need you."

he whispered frantically. for the love of the stars, let sootstar have half of a brain cell left. she needed to keep vulturemask here– they could both raise his siblings. but vulture needed to be here.

Bunnywhisker was not immune to chaos - even the quiet sort forming just beyond the nursery. Her snow littered pelt shook as she slinked closer, curiosity nipping her harder than the cold. She had noted Vulturemask and Bumblebreeze with the kittens prior to them entering the nursery but for some reason figured the situation already cleared with Sootstar. That would've been the right course of action, she believes - brief their leader on their oncoming actions. Still, with the flurried way Vulturemask spoke and the frantic whisperings from Bumblebreeze shortly after, she comes to believe that this was far from their intention. Things... just happen, she supposes.

Still, more mouths to feed, and the choice at the end of the day rests on Sootstar's shoulders. Bunnywhisker doesn't have much to say in truth, finding herself more of an intrusive bystander to a shockingly personal situation. She of course wonders who's shoes she'd like to be in the most - and frankly none of them are tantalizing in the moment. Even leadership, the almighty in most cases, seems terrifying to control when it comes to the lives of newly born strangers.

She stands by. Worst comes to worst and she can be used to escort out trespassers, she supposes. In a perfect world, it would be an easy answer with no fuss - but as snowflakes land in her pelt and her stomach rumbles, Bunnywhisker is reminded that this is no perfect world.

Firepaw avoided the nursery as much as she could, she couldn't say it was because she hated kits by any means however they just like many other things she didn't understand made her uneasy being gentle wasn't something she knew how to be and well it was best to leave the kit rearing to the queens. She's sure they got plenty of visitors already no lack of socialization with some many clanmates around willing to both play with them and fetch the Queens (and by extension her mother) whatever they needed. Evidently something was going on today, there's a tangle of legs near the nursery and she can hear the commotion all the way from where she lays grooming herself. She stops mid-lick tongue still sticking out of her mouth as she makes out their indistinct words - Vulturemask looked to be the center of attention; she didn't really spend much time with the warrior outside of the occasional patrol together but didn't believe him to be the type to do anything so bad as to get the attention of the entire camp and Sootstar herself. Her tongue disappears back into her maw and she shifts so she's on her four paws before padding over to listen in and get a proper clue of what was going on. Her fur still ragged and a mess, windblown from the roaring winds that just didn't seem to dissipate no amount of grooming would keep it completely flat but it looked worse then usual on account of her stopping halfway through.

As she comes to a stop behind the warriors she can just faintly make out the tiny shapes of kits she has never seen within the warmer darkness of the nursery. They're tiny and she has to wonder just faintly in the back of her mind if they'd make it - especially with how damp they looked. They'd been out in the worst of it, the idea of sending them back out there to be returned to wherever they were retrieved didn't even seem like a option. These kits would die out there, especially without a mother. She only makes out the last of Vulturemask's words which she'd heard upon arriving along with the pleas of Bumblebreeze. She looks up to Sootstar her expression knitted in a rare display of concern ❝We can't cast out kits right? I'm sure they'll be strong warriors right, like Vulturemask is❞ she doesn't like the idea of any of her clanmates leaving either, even if she doesn't know him so closely she'd still miss his presence. Her claws dig into the snow uncomfortably as she waits to hear her leaders verdict. ❝I think'd be cruel to cast them away...❞

( PLACE ME IN MY CASKET TONIGHT ; BECAUSE IM ALREADY DYING INSIDE )

Her time in the nursery was coming to an end, Daisykit, Sparkkit, Larkkit, and Ebonykit were three moons old now, "ready" to become apprentices.
Still, the queen tried to make the most of it, of having her children all to herself. She plays quietly with Larkkit in the nursery- that is until Vulturemask silently pushes his way through, followed shortly by Bumblebreeze, small bundles of fur clutched in their maws and toddling being them.
The lilac queens brow bone quirks in both confusion and surprise, and she tells Larkkit to stay put before following her former apprentice outside of the nursery, her maw parted and full of burning questions.
The explanation comes, and Echolight has to snap her maw shut to keep herself from an outburst, Vulturemask offering to leave in place of his baby siblings… bittersweet pride surged through Echolight's chest with the realization of how much her apprentice had grown, though noble, he was right, this was the worst possible time for kits- though Echolight herself was not innocent in the way she had brought her own litter into the world at the beginning of leaf-bare.
She stays silent, but her gaze glides over to Sootstar inquisitively.
"Speech."
