STEADY THE RIGHTS AND THE WRONGS

The night has been long - and the morning even more so. As dawn creeps into camp, a slouched figure slips into camp - a warrior not far behind. Periwinklepaw looks utterly exhausted, bags heavy beneath his blue eyes, gaze averted. From the bird clutched tightly in his jaws and the dewdrops clinging to his coat, it's clear to see he's been off on a hunt. The only problem? He'd gone out without permission, when he's already in trouble. He'd gone off alone at some point in the night, not even sparing a word to his clanmates, and he'd been caught by Sunstride.

It's an annoyance, but not unexpected - not unplanned. It's simply a miracle it was the older tom who'd found him wandering about by himself and not someone else - the last thing he'd needed this morning was yet another accusing stare turned his way, another annoying voice accusing him of being a traitor for simply being born. Though, this time he supposes they wouldn't be wrong - though he's been careful to wipe all traces of scent, hide all the evidence.

He drops his prey onto the pile with a loud thump - not even bothering to hide his annoyance and displeasure as he waits for the chaos to ensue. He wonders what'll happen now - what starclan forsaken punishment awaits him this time. It doesn't matter- he'd done what he needed to.

// please wait for @SUNSTRIDE ; also tagging @SOOTSTAR for ic consequences and obligatory mentor ping for @Bluepool
- this takes place the morning after the clan meeting! y/c is more than welcome to be suspicious of him but bear in mind there is no ic proof that he did anything but sneak out to hunt!

It had been with deep uncertainty that Sunstride had walked Periwinklepaw back to camp. The act itself had seemed innocent– a bird in firm jaws, a weary anger in deep eyes. Yet the warriors of WindClan were a more worrisome sort. They did not so easily dismiss the mistakes of another. It is early enough that his lone patrol did not catch every eye in camp, yet there were most certainly enough. How strange a difference, that some see independence as a crime. (Beneath this, however, the warrior knows that it is not the independence they frown at, but the blood in his veins. The paramount question: What drives you to this now?)

As the apprentice drops their catch upon the pile, the burnished tom instructs him to rest there– to wait, a demand without words that quickly turns to explanation. "Your mentor will be along soon, I am certain of this. You should wait here, and see what may be done about what happened." His voice is oddly level, without reprimand or concern, but Sunstride does glance backwards as he begins his search, first for Bluepool and then for the other faces of authority in this clan, who might speak louder or bolder than he.

  • ooc:
  • SUNSTRIDE. named for his coloration and his bold chasing of fate.
—— cis male, he - him. thirty-six moons old. lead warrior of windclan and former rogue.
—— gay, but somewhat closeted. will not be open about his interests. single, will be so.
—— seems comparatively stranger than who he was some moons ago, serious and cool.

sunstride is broad and bold– a creature standing above most of windclan, though not a beast beyond its borders, with fur that flames red at its base and deepens to a burnt amber with every whorl and stripe. his eyes, in comparison, are a pale summer's blue, still as bold as the rest of him.

Dawn. The sun creeps over the horizon, glares into his shuttered eyes. A groan, quiet, muffled, as Tigerfrost blinks open those molten hues. Ribbons of vibrant pink and gold flutter across the windswept skies. Not a single cloud drifts overhead. Birds sing, and insects chirp. Grass sways gently above the slope of WindClan's camp. It's quiet, peaceful, nothing but serene ambience and the quiet chatter of the early risers. Tigerfrost is hungry, and he rises to his paws with a stretch, just in time to see... no, that wasn't the dawn patrol, was it? It was too early...

Periwinklepaw.

His eyes widen a bit, briefly, an expression of confusion. What the hell was Periwinklepaw doing out by themself? There's prey in their jaws. A bit of lone hunting in the night? But... no... Sunstride is close behind them. Not alone then. Why do they look so irritated? Sunstride certainly seems less than pleased as well. The hell is going on? Tigerfrost hears the vocals of Sunstride, and feels the confusion further muddle his freshly awakened mind. He approaches with a stony expression, hellish vision flickering from Sunstride to Periwinklepaw.

"What happened?" Tigerfrost inquires gruffly. He awaits an explanation, but it appears that Sunstride awaits something else entirely, or perhaps, someone else. Sootstar, perhaps? This probably wasn't good for Periwinklepaw. Tigerfrost peers down at them with suspicion glistening within his eyes.

What was going on with Periwinklepaw lately?. He had never acted like this in the past to break rules like this. Vulturemask had not been left in the dark (oh surprise there!) when it comes to Periwinklepaw's punishment for some immature prank. At first he had thought it was a bit barbaric but if taking into consideration with Sunstride look something had clearly happend that had displeased the lead warrior which lead him to believe otherwise. Anyway, it was not like he knew what had happend just yet. The medicine cat would stop beside Tigerfrost his eyes indifferently set on the apprentice he had taken in under his wing but this time he was not going to protect them. Periwinklepaw was old enough now to learn from thier own mistakes. It was about time for them to learn how cruel the world could be and how deceitful this clan was just like he recently had.

She has not been assigned Periwinklepaw as an apprentice for long and already he is a disappointment. An embarrassment. Her pale yellow eyes narrow as they land upon the pointed tom. "Tell me Periwinklepaw, if you had just been out on an innocent hunt why sneak out in the middle of the night without telling anyone where you are going?" her voice is steady, calm. She has a sinking suspicion that whatever her apprentice had really done, it had nothing to do with the bird he clutches in his jaws.

"If you tell the truth you will receive no punishment so speak and let your words be true" the punishment she has in mind is not a violent one, or even physical. But still, she does not want to give it. She wants her apprentice to be a loyal WindClan warrior, wants him to be someone she can eventually be proud of as he is her first. But she has a strange feeling that is not going to happen with this one. Just look at who his mother was, after all. Perhaps he would prove to be a disloyal rat like she had been.

She does not spare a glance to the others gathered, though it seems like they too are interested in the whereabouts of her apprentice. Tigerfrost's voice asks him what happened, Sunstride waits impassively on the sidelines and Vulturemask is of course, sticking his nose where it doesn't belong.

She closes her eyes for a moment and silently reminds herself that she only has to put up with him for a moon and then he was the problem of WindClan as a whole.

The first cat to bother them is none other than tigerfrost. Any kind thoughts that had been growing towards the older tom had left the moment he'd sentenced such a harsh punishment in firefangs defense of all things. The fox-hearted molly didn't deserve to hold such powers over them, especially over a prank plotted before she'd even gotten her fancy new name and role. "w-went hunting," he says simply, voice dull and eyes tired. he's drained from his long night - doesn't have the willpower to dredge up nay emotion other than a weary irritation.

Vulturemask looks... worried almost, and that makes it hard for the boy to meet his friends gaze - and so he doesn't. Steadfastly turning his head away until yet another speaks. His new mentor of all cats - yeah, he should've expected that. Did in fact expect this actually. Staring straight into her gaze with out so much as a twitch or a tick, he simply says "I c-couldn't sleep. f-figured i'd d-do something useful." Its not exactly a lie - it's been nearly two days since his mind has been settled enough to sleep, exhaustion already weighing heavily upon them.

She implies that there's more to the story, but he doesn't have anything worth admitting to. "sn-snow-shadow wouldn't have c-cared," a lie, but he doubts his brother would tell them so. His stomach rumbles loudly as he waits - an embarrassment, this frail body of his. But he's determined to refuse firefangs twisted attempts at 'kindness', refuses to bow down to her mockery. They'd gone without during the leaf-bare after all, so why should now be any different? There is to more to be said - he simply watches, waits. Wonders what it'll be this time.

She watches with slanted eyes as her apprentice looks to Vulturemask then looks away, almost ashamed. The gesture is not lost on her. It is how she had looked once, when she was a kit lying to her father after doing something she had known was bad. "Even if that is true, you are already being punished for something else. Did you really and truly believe it to be a good idea to just leave in the middle of the night without telling anyone where you were going or am I expected to believe you really are that dense?" perhaps he was hit on the head when he was just a kit? She cannot say but she does believe he was up to no good. With no way to prove it though she cannot accuse him of anything.

"sn-snow-shadow wouldn't have c-cared," he says and Bluepool cannot help the scoff that escapes her lips. "in case you haven't noticed, I'm not Snowshadow kid" was that really all he had to say in defense of himself? She rolls her eyes. No wonder he was so undisciplined, so ill-mannered. if his previous mentor would truly let him get away with something like this she needed to have a talk with Sootstar. "Look, believe it or not but rules exist for your safety. What if you had snuck out and gotten hurt and no one knew where you were and we couldn't find you?" she says, her tone evening a little bit as she tries to reason with the pointed tom. "You obviously knew what you were doing was wrong but you did it anyways. Your punishment, Periwinklepaw is confinement to the camp for one week. If I see or hear about you taking one step outside of this hollow without my permission I'll chase you out of WindClan myself. Am I clear?" there is no venom to her words, no bite, it's like she is stating simple facts. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes right?

Hunting, they say, just as Vulturemask arrived upon the scene for himself. Tigerfrost raises a brow, uncertain if he believes the excuse. Periwinklepaw certainly had managed to catch something, but why in StarClan's name would they be out in the middle of the night, hunting by themselves? The Lead Warrior remains silent, suspicious, but there's no real proof to the contrary, and Bluepool is handling her apprentice well enough. Another punishment, on top of the one Periwinklepaw was already dealing with. Tigerfrost lifts his chin, disgust shining within his molten gaze. Perhaps the youth was going through some sort of rebellious phase, but either way, the lack of discipline is appalling to the Lead Warrior. It didn't help that Hyacinthbreath's blood rain through the apprentice's veins. If Periwinklepaw wanted to gain WindClan's trust, they certainly didn't appear to be trying.

Tigerfrost says nothing more, merely stares at the apprentice with disappointment shining amidst his fiery eyes.

He simply stands there, listening to her questions and her tirades, not saying a word. He will no refute her statements, isn' going to change his excuse nor his mind. When the axe finally drops and she tells him of his punishment, he gives a deep nod - a mockery of a bow. "Yes m-ma'm," he says quietly, and the moment he feels like he is dismissed he pushes past the group who have gathered to head into the medicine den. He wants to find his nest and go to bed - it has been a long and weary night after all.
