SLIPPING PAST HUNDRED ON THE DASH SOON — periwinklepaw

// this is set to take place the day after she is assigned to mentor Peri I hope that's alright!

She is not certain if her apprentice is meant as an insult or a praise. On one paw, perhaps her sister is set out to embarrass her with this assignment. She certainly had heard the muttering of clanmates about the boy. He had been sickly, he was like a limp fish in a fight. And not only that but he was the son of a traitor. If he betrayed windclan just like his mother they would all point a claw at her. It would be her fault for failing him as a mentor. A frown momentarily crosses her features as she thinks about it. A troubling thought indeed, one which she tries to chase away with a shake of her head. On the other paw perhaps this was her sister showing her that she trusted her. She certainly hopes it is so, at least.

"So kid" she says when they finally reach their destination, a flat patch of grass between two hills. Sheltered, safe. The perfect spot for her to assess what she is working with. "Your other two mentors actually teach ya anything?" her pale yellow eyes look the smoke apprentice up and down, as if assessing.

"Attack me" she says suddenly "I'm an enemy warrior who is trespassing on WindClan's territory, attack me or flee" she wanted to see what he was made of, if he would turn tail and run or if he would stand his ground and fight. What he chose would tell her a lot about him. "Claws in or out it doesn't matter to me" she adds. If he was more comfortable fighting with claws in fine. Either way she would not hold back because he was young.

Yet another new mentor. It seems no matter what he does, Sootstar will never trust him - will always hold suspicions against his loyalty. Making himself a non-threat hadn't worked - and now even that saftey net was being taken from him. He did not know much about bluepool - did not trust her. If he doesn't at least try - will she go running to their queen? Will he be cast about? He is too much like hyacinthbreath - he will not survive on his own, and he cannot see himself ever trusting riverclan the way she has.

He follows along silently, pawsteps near inaudible even on the new growth of the moorlands, mind racing a mile a minute as he struggles to come to a decision. Clear blue gaze meets gold as she turns to face him - the ultimatum dropped upon his head with all the force of a fox bearing down upon him. Tail tip twitches anxiously - of course it had to be fighting that he's curious of. He's relived he's given the option of sheathed claws at least - one he takes full advantage of.

With only a stiff nod in acknowledgment of her words - he's not sure he even could speak up right now, jaw tensed and tight as it is - he's quick to move on her orders. Dropping into a crouch - somewhere half between a hunting crouch and a typical fighting stance, legs coiled taught and body flat he just gives a slow blink and waits. He has to rely on Vulturemasks nighttime teachings in this moment - and putting it to use on another is frightening. If he does this - he'd be giving up all of his morals, his principals. But if he doesn't-

Well. He won't make the first move - but if he has to, he supposes he'll at least fight back. But he won't flee- he is no coward, despite his clanmates thoughts.

Bluepool can respect his decision, to stay and fight and she makes a mental note to work on speed and stamina another time. She nods approvingly as he drops into his preferred fighting crouch, a small smile lifting up the corners of her lips. Perhaps his previous mentors had taught him something after all. Time would tell. How well he did in this mock-fight would say where he was in his training. It would tell her what they needed to work on and where his strengths and weaknesses lie.

Without any warning, she rushes forward, using her powerful hind legs to launch herself from the ground. Dirt sprays behind her as she propels herself towards the smoke and lifts one paw, aiming to bring it down on top of his head fast and hard, the goal is to stun him. There are other ways to attack without claws that would incapacitate your opponent quickly. This lesson is her aim with this one who obviously did not like inuring others in the way she herself and her other clanmates did.

The blow that comes crashing down upon him hits it's mark with deadly accuracy. The pain that rocks his skull is startling - vision blurring for a moment, specks of white flaring and dancing about like stars. He doesn't let that stop him, paws carrying him backwards as he scurries away, darting left the moment his vision clears. Long legs carry the boy swiftly towards his target, and soft paws swipe out, aiming to hook and sweep bluepools hind leg from beneath her before darting away again, hoping to round her frame so he is behind her. He's not sure what to do from there, skittering about and waiting for retaliation - a dull throbbing in his temple clouding his mind and serving as a reminder of why exactly he hates this.
