❀ OH HOME, LET ME COME HOME ❀

periwinklebreeze & 14 moons & demi-boy & he/they & windclan moor runner

Its strange, he thinks, to be traveling with so many - even stranger still, the fact he's somehow found himself not with the rest of windclan but elsewhere. Nerves are already creeping in as he slinks forwards on soft paws, blue eyes flitting between the cats he can see. Some seem amicable - a mingling of riverclan and shadowclan in one area especially draws his eyes, if only because they seem to know one another. Everyone here is a stranger to him, except one - and it's a face he's rather unhappy to see if the glare upon his face is anyting to go by. The shadowclan deputy that had caused so much trouble, who even when their clans had been allied had tried to wrangle secrets from his mother in plain view of the tom. It had stung worse than the scolding upon his return that night, for spending the gathering with the enemy - the disloyalty. And then, sootstar had come back with stories of his words, a web of lies spun. He has no doubt the Smogmaw is bad news, and he'll stay as far away as possible. When people watching is no longer enough to distract his twisting thoughts from his loved ones, he finally turns to blink once more at the she-cat near him - "I d-didn't c-catch your name," he says quietly, words sounding dull to his own ears. "I'm p-p-periwinkle-b-breeze," theres no need to point out from which clan - he's sure she's already figured it out.

Iciclefang walks with a great deal of confidence in comparison to the timid, fluttery WindClan warrior in front of her small group. The tortoiseshell listens to the stutter in his voice, the nervous flick of cornflower-pale eyes, and flicks her ears forward to catch his conversation with a SkyClan queen. "I'm Periwinklebreeze," he says, and she files that away for later in the nest of her brain. She does not recognize him; he must not be a familiar face at Gatherings, she thinks. Or border fights.

Instead of waiting to eavesdrop on the tabby beside him, she turns back to the cats she'd departed Fourtrees with. Excitement still buzzes beneath her short, glossy fur. "I didn't catch your name, either," she directs to the SkyClan tom. "What is it?" She prepares herself for some minnowbrained kittypet name, something she's never heard before in her life. With a glance at both her littermate and Sharppaw, she waits for the SkyClan warrior to reply.

Admittedly he worries at his ability to keep up, but he has the rest of his clanmates present and surely Honeyjaw and Clearheart would help him if need be - both were kind toms and he was already deciding how best to approach them to ask to walk between them when the path became more treacherous. He stalked along with his usual hobble of a bounce, head held high but very clearly uncoordinated and struggling to keep pace with the more confident and casual strides of the other cats. Hopefully his presence as the only medicine cat would make up for his sluggish pace, but he was managing alright now. Magpiepaw had already decided he would not be the first to ask for any breaks, there was a little more to prove than just pride and he didn't have a lot of that to begin with - only an assurance he was doing the right thing in place of it.

"I'm Magpiepaw.." He states, mumbling partially through the bundle of herbs he carried, cats were asking for names and introducing themselves and while his remark was not to any cat in particular he joined in to be sociable, "I'm Starlingheart's apprentice." And that was added on for emphasis with a touch of warmth, the mention of his mentor alone enough to keep him ambling along on his hobble of a walk without pause. Like his herb lessons he repeats the names he has heard so far and tries to memorize them as best he can, it would do well to be able to call upon someone properly if the need arose. Perwinklebreeze from WindClan - the moorland scent was strong enough. The tortie with the blaze of white across her face was from RiverClan but he can't recall if she said her name yet...

OOC: talking to @Magpiepaw , vaguely in step with the shadowclanners

—

Inexplicably, she's fallen into step with the ShadowClanners. She supposes it's for the best; she'd rather rot than willingly be close to WindClan. She knows that no cat has senses so well maintained as to catch the hint of their prisoners on her pelt, but still the deputy is ... on edge, about it all. Introductions start to spring up around her, including from the black-and-white apprentice hobbling along with a clutch of herbs in his maw: Magpiepaw, Starlingheart's apprentice. Well, that explained the herbs.

"Orangeblossom, SkyClan deputy." She responds in kind, a critical ochre eye flicking over his smaller form. She doesn't know the young tom, but there's something oddly comforting about knowing there would be a healer with them on this venture. She just hopes the jittery medicine cat has imparted enough wisdom onto her apprentice to suffice. "How long have you been Starlingheart's apprentice for?"

Funnily enough, Magpiepaw has no need to ask. Whether it was his decision or Clearheart's remains uncertain even within his own mind, but they've ended up close to the strange apprentice regardless. Starlightheart was caring for his daughter– it seemed only fair that he return the favor and watch after her apprentice. In doing so, it seems that he's entangled himself with a whole group of more youthful faces. None of them quite kittens, thank the stars (he would not have forgiven any leader who sent someone unprepared, however desperate their situation), but just youthful enough to pull at whatever heartstrings the warrior has left.

None of them are wholly familiar, and the further they get from their home the more upsetting all of this becomes. They're leaving. It's real. He walks with strangers and does not know if any of them will survive. All because the dead cats above their heads told them too. Moons ago he would have thought all of this crazy. But moons ago, he didn't know the truth of these clans. And for all the trouble ShadowClan has brought him, it has also brought peace and prosperity. The clans were good. He would help where he could, even if he himself did not quite earn that label. Good.

He's pulled from his reverie by another warrior, except she's not a warrior at all. Near his age and imposing in stature, she introduces herself as SkyClan's deputy. How many of them had come on this journey? "Long enough to speak as cryptically as the best of them," he answers for Magpiepaw with a short grin, though he then nods his head to the healer's apprentice to encourage the real truth.

Iciclefang was subtly eager, a mood Fernpaw was a little unused to seeing her in. She always had a namesake frost about her, a bite that kept her soul hardy- but he supposed this was suited to what she had always done for RiverClan. To protect it, to fight for it- and now he was at her side, witnessing the abilities she had been promoted early for, it'd probably be worth watching her. And- maybe, just maybe, he'd get to show her what he'd learned too.

Sharppaw and the SkyClan tom walked with him and Iciclefang now, the four of them having left the gathering together. Fernpaw found himself gravitating a little further toward the Shadowclanner, who had regarded him with quite an odd look earlier. His silver eyes had shot owl-wide as if faced with a realisation, but... he'd not said anything. Still, she seemed to be on quite good terms with Iciclefang. A verdant eye slipped toward the Shadowclanner, offering her a quick grin of as much earnest encouragement as he could offer, before settling his gaze upon the SkyClan tom. Hopefully he wasn't too embarrassed, walking with a couple of apprentices... especially not a too-old one like himself...

He was small enough to pass it off, though. To those who hadn't known him when he was younger, at least.

Hazecloud does her best to simply linger in the general number of her Clanmates. She had left only a short distance behind Iciclefang, her brother, and the few cats they were already speaking with. Somewhere between leaving Fourtrees that distance had grown until she was merely in the middle of several cats at once. By now the insecurities and worries she had before they left had disappeared, and now she was intent on conducting herself as a proper warrior in the face of many, many strangers.

Her posture was presented regally, head up and shoulders down, her tail held leveled with her spine. A form well trained by her mother since she was a mere scrap. While some of them continued to speak with one another, continuing their conversations before Blazestar had sent them away, Hazecloud picked between the cats from the other Clans that were chosen. She was surprised that ShadowClan had sent their Medicine Cat apprentice, though it turned into a small form of relief. She understood sending a fully trained cat would not be the smartest move when maintaining the sick was already so much to handle. Hopefully Magpiepaw knew enough that they would be relatively safe.

Within the crowd of ShadowClan cats however, she spotted a familiar grey pelt among them.

"Needle? Is that you?" She called out after a few moments of recognition, inching closer to the other. It had been ages since she'd seen her, far before she had gone by Hazecloud, even. When she still answered to Syren.

// dragging @Needledrift in

Hailstorm walked alongside Little Wolf, she had caught up to him after having spoken with her mother and the snowy tom can't help but glance around at their new traveling companions. Several cats of different sizes from each clan, old and young, and it makes him perk his ears forward at the sight of apprentices joining them in this perilous quest for lungwort. He feels nervous truly and remembers the dark mollys response about bees in his brain if he wasn't feeling that way about leaving home and going somewhere that they were all unfamiliar with. His warm gaze lighting up with curiosity noticing the small healer that was tagging along for this adventure, he listens carefully to those speaking and he spares his friend a glance before opening his mouth to speak "Hello, I'm Hailstorm."

The warrior offers a warm grin noting those that had spoken being Orangeblossom and Magpiepaw, the jitters in his gut lessening just a tad knowing that someone who knew of herbs and healing was coming with them on the journey. The percentage of dying from an infection lowered quite a bit though there was still the smaller possibilities and what ifs that he tried not to dwell on for too long. He ponders what it must be like knowing how to cure any ailments, it must be a great honor and a large stressor in a medicine cats life he imagines.

Needledrift lifted her head as her old name was called. It wasn't odd to hear the occasional cat reference her by nickname. In fact, it was quite commonplace to hear 'Needles!' or 'Needle' be called out across ShadowClan camp in reference to the gray and white she-cat. She had not expected to hear such a thing among a throng of cats she wasn't much acquainted with.

Her eyes drift from Magpiepaw to Orangeblossom to .... Syren?

The gray molly brrrrrrrmts a curious greeting to the RiverClanner, her green eyes warm with recognition. "A familiar face. I didn't hear that you were coming along, Syren or -" A giggle erupts from Needledrift's crooked mouth, her tongue sticking out ever so slightly. "- what name did you get?" @hazecloud

✿—— of all the cats she'd expected to end up walking alongside, it certainly isn't a windclanner. but, blinded by some emotion in a moment she now refuses to let herself think of, she'd bumped into this strange young tom with blue eyes, and now she's here. many of these cats, clan alignments aside, are wildcats born and bred—who know each other, for better or worse, from those colonies moons upon moons ago. she has no such fortune, and while she knows her own clanmates well enough, it's a fact of life that she must talk to the other clans as well. this is as good a place to start as any, and she does her best to look friendly as the strange windclanner (his moorland scent is clear enough) speaks to her. bobbie nods and replies, "nice to - to meet you. that's a pretty name."

"i'm bobbie. skyclan, if you can't tell," she nods to her collar with a low sigh. it is almost always the first thing everyone looks to, an effect only magnified among strange clans who are much less accepting of joiners. blinking, unsure how much is too friendly, she tilts her head and mews, "you're .... windclan, right?"

all around her, cats are (some reluctantly) conversing. a white-blazed tortie speaks with chalk as she pads alongside a dark cat with starsilver eyes and a small ginger tabby. many of these faces are unfamiliar and even more of their names are—for the moment, bobbie is reduced to categorizing cats by the colors of their pelts or their distinctive features. orangeblossom, of all cats, is talking with an awkward-looking black-furred apprentice carrying a bundle of strange leaves—he must be the lone healer attending, she realizes as she catches snippets of their conversation, and the idea soothes her jangled nerves slightly. two shadowclanners chat as another is called over by a riverclanner, a large pale cat joins orangeblossom and the medicine apprentice—really, it's all too many conversations going on at once, and she decides to focus on the cat near her.

"so, um," stars, this is awkward. how does one talk with a member of the clan yours is mortal enemies with, and whose traitor deputy you harbor? finally she settles for glancing about and offering, "do you know the names of any of these cats? because i d-definitely don't."

He remained behind the majority, watching them chatter with a piercing gaze, offering nothing but a low-sounding rumble. Duskpool showed a wave of his wooly tail at anyone who glanced his way, otherwise, he remained silent. He found no need to talk, not when his head was nothin' but a muddled mess, but sure as hell didn't mean he'd be foolish enough to ignore the idle chatter, humming as they tossed names around. He mulled over their names, gaze lingering on their only cat with enough healin' abilities. Better than nothin'. He thought with a crinkled brow.

Duskpool pulled further back, letting his gaze sweep across the journeying cats. He heaved a sigh, willing himself forward, tired muscles protesting. "Name's Duskpool." He rumbled to no one in particular. He might as well be civil with them, after all, they were all in the same boat. "One of SkyClan's warriors." He added with a twitch of his tail, expression deadpan.

⭒✧ The amalgam of pelts that roved their path was a fascinating sight. Newly formed pairs and trios split between tree trunks before joining once again, tails flaring high and low. It reminded Chalk of the journey back from the shelter, or the stream of twoleg apprentices that entered the Learningplace every morning. Keeping tabs on any skyclanners, the tom loped beside the siblings and shadowclanner he had met beneath Fourtrees. Attentive, he caught shards of conversation around them. Names to be remembered- Periwinklebreeze, Magpiepaw, Hailstorm…

Iciclefang seemed similarly attuned to the goings on, turning to him. Scalloped ears met her question. "Chalk, daylight warrior." Matter of fact, Chalk's limited expressions smoothed further, featureless. He watched her with a windowed gaze, curious to what the molly would make of the information. Of the long list of introductions he'd have to make, this was the first, and he wanted to see how the daylight warrior rank's reputation carried. This was very different to a border patrol. Then, preemptively, "Though I have no housefolk."

Taking a moment to look aside, he watched Orangeblossom talk with Magpiepaw and a mahogany shadowclanner. The clutch of herbs in the smaller cat's mouth was a grim reminder of their plight. Chalk was conscious to keep the excitement from his step. There were lives at stake. Sobered, his wheat snout turned back to the group he walked with. "You're siblings then? The same age?" The tom's nose tipped to Fernpaw, who was close alongside Sharppaw. His tone fostered no assumption, only plain curiosity.

The only company he keeps is a measured rhythm of respirations. Inscribed on his unpleasant expression is the weariness of a mate and father bracing for the loss of it all. Even in the teeth of his shallow reassurances, that he can divert his attention from an inevitable catastrophe back home, Smogmaw remains unswayed, and as such sought to distance himself from the platitudes of the cats around him. Their welfare, nor their needs, isn't what mandated his presence.

Paradoxically, however, ShadowClan's deputy vied for the helm of the travelling ensemble. Not so long after they all departed from the gathering did he slither through the scads of pelts to the forefront, offering nods only to those he knew by name. He mustn't allow them to interpret his reserve as a sign of weakness. They're all watching, and now talking amongst themselves, and his purpose was tethered to the stoic image he craved to project.

A black-capped ear flicks rearwards as the first of the introductions rumbled through the group. Names he could easily identify, specifically clanmates and Orangeblossom, melded with ones he couldn't quite place. "I'm Smogmaw," he maintains, though to no one in particular. "ShadowClan's deputy." That is it. He felt no compulsion to elaborate further than that. For the sake of orderliness and mutual goodwill, Smogmaw intends to limit interactions exclusively to his own creed, and perhaps - just perhaps - those who he could stand to benefit from knowing.

As Scorchstreak trots along, she cannot help but to think that perhaps the unfamiliar faces in the crowd of journeying cats are better than the familiar ones. There are some surely harmless, friendly SkyClanners in their midst—she casts a glance to the she-cat Periwinklebreeze speaks with—but there is also Orangeblossom among their ranks, and the calico much prefers the enemies she doesn't know the names of. But it seems everyone is doing introductions, now, and so the tunneler watches some of them mingle with an ease that she has only ever felt around her own family.

When she happens to catch the wandering eye of a cat from another clan, the calico shrugs stiffly, expression carefully neutral. Guarded. She does not trust any of these cats, not with herself and certainly not with her own clanmates. Periwinklebreeze should be more careful associating with them, she thinks. Keeping their distance may be the only way to make it through this journey alive. "Scorchstreak," she says, in lieu of any proper introduction. No one will be looking at her anyway—she doesn't need to announce her title, the extent of her position in WindClan. "WindClan tunneler."
[ LIKE A RATTLESNAKE ]

Just like that, they're on their way. It still doesn't feel real that they – and for who knows how long they would be referring to who knows how many cats from all five clans – would be spanning a days - long journey, just like that. Did such a thing not require more preparation? The longest Sharppaw has walked is going across ShadowClan's small territory. If she thinks about it too hard, this was going to suck. Like, a lot.

Company makes it a little more bearable at least, company that did not make him feel like he was insane – or like others wanted him to think he's insane. Of course, that was easy to say when he has spent a few moments with Iciclefang, at most. It probably wouldn't last.

It overwhelms her, to tune in to closesly to the conversations going on around her. She catches a 'Periwinklebreeze' and, apparently, SkyClan's deputy before she resolves to sticking to… whatever weird circle she was currently in. She is surprised that Iciclefang bothers to ask about a name. It's the polite thing to do. Sharppaw thinks his name will be stupid, and the look Iciclefang gives him and Fernpaw tells him that she thinks the same.

Sharppaw takes the opportunity to glance at Fernpaw – and she's surprised by the quick grin he offers. Did he think Sharppaw would go easy on him, because they were both too - old apprentices, or something? Sharppaw knew better than to dwell on anything like that. I'm not like you, she proclaims fiercely in her mind. Her face is slow to match though. A twitch of an expression, unsure if she should smile back, or look on in contempt. Sharppaw wonders what happened to his eye.

Chalk snags her attention again. So, he is a kittypet, is thought with a frown. Though I have no housefolk. A beat. " How does that work? " she asks, apparently bold with her questioning now. She doesn't really understand the premise in this first place, and this seems like yet another weird SkyClan stipulation. " What do you do instead of go home to be fed? Lie around? "

A last-minute farewell leaves Greeneyes trailing toward the back of the group with his heart in his stomach. Perhaps he should've said goodbye to Fireflypaw earlier, when he'd been saying goodbye to everyone else too. Would that have made leaving easier, then? Would he be second-guessing himself now, if it weren't for his best friend catching up to him just moments before?

He isn't sure, really. He'll be okay though. Maybe, he thinks.

A clover-adorned ear twitches at the sound of conversation in front of him, un-faded, unlike the conversations they stray away from. Names are being tossed around to match the faces he'll be living among for the next undeterminable amount of time, and Greeneyes tries his best to store those most unfamiliar to him away for future use. Periwinklebreeze, Hailstorm, and so on.

"Greeneyes," he offers to no one in particular with a nod of his head. He might as well toss in an introduction of his own if everyone else is doing so. StarClan knows some will find him just as much of a stranger as he finds others. "I'm a SkyClan warrior."
