✦₊ ⊹—— he remembers his father's voice no more than a couple sunrises ago, scorched into his memory, a raw seething roar: where are they? sablepaw? stalkingpaw! the names he's committed to an ample memory weigh heavy on his mind. he'd been ushered away, called kingsblood (a name which privately makes his fur rise for some reason) and kept far from the chaos, but that single moment hangs in the unending space of his mind. his father's face, contorted in anger, shattering the sky into pieces with his shouts, the two apprentices creeping forth from their nests. all of that, but nobody had told him what happened—nobody had answered his pleas for what and why, told him of what had caused cicadastar to storm across the camp so loudly he'd woken beekit, too.
today he stumbles on stretching legs towards one of the two whose names his father had roared, eyes dull beneath the curtain of fur, looking more like some malformed deer than a kit of less than three moons. cicadakit squints up at stalkingpaw, not quite wanting to touch them, white-dipped paw hanging hesitantly in the air. he does not want to ask smokethroat, who had ushered him quickly away; he does not want to ask cicadastar, who had barely seen him in the blindness of his rage. his siblings had brought him no answer—and so, logically, he has approached this cat, the subject of his father's shouts. "stalkingpaw?" their name is unfamiliar in his mouth and he finds he doesn't like it, sharing the syllables with cicadastar's enraged howls, mewing quietly, "why was my dad yelling at you?"
