His body ached, and his mind was twisted in terror. He hadn't been extremely sick- a mild case, compared to those who suffered and died within a week. Dawnglare and Fireflypaw had been able to treat him, and keep him stable, at the very least. Falconpaw wasn't declining, but by Starclan, he wasn't getting any better. His nose was stuffed, eyes bleary, joints on fire and his breathing? Oh yes, that hurt too. The only thing keeping him sane was perhaps the other cats in the medicine cat den- and one of them was the cat he suspected got him sick, not that he had proof, nor did it truly matter.

Maybe he was always going to get sick anyways.

His head turned towards Lupinepaw where she lay. She had steadily been getting better- the last cat to get the cure. A tiny smile touched his face, and he was sure he looked delirious. After all, a sick cat smiling at a mostly healthy one without obvious reason was well, a bit strange, wasn't it? Falconpaw realized his blunder a moment later, letting the soft expression fall away from his face and turn away, laying his head back in his nest.

❀‿ Lupinepaw, however close to death that yellowcough had taken her, was on the up-and-up. She didn't know that she got the last of their remaining leaves of cure, at least at the time. Would she have rejected them, insisted that they'd be given to someone else—someone more important, or more useful, at least—had she known that she would be the last to be cured? She didn't know if she was capable of that kind of sacrifice. Besides, she doubted that Bobbie would've let her make that kind of sacrifice even if she had such a conviction. It was too late to do anything about it now, those who were unlucky enough to fall ill after Lupinepaw had were in it for the long haul... wasting away in their sickbeds waiting for a cure to be delivered, praying not to perish before the journeying cats made their return. Lupinepaw was ridden with guilt over it.

She may have doomed Falconpaw.

Of course, she didn't know this for sure, and had no way of finding out, but with the way her heart lurched whenever she caught a glimpse of him in the nest next to his, she felt she must have been responsible for getting him sick. Lupinepaw remembered, shamefully, how she had snapped at him in the training hollow that afternoon. Only a sunrise after that... she collapsed onto the floor of camp, sick and crying. And then what must have been another day or so later, Falconpaw came carried in to be treated alongside the rest of them. In any case, she hadn't been any help to him, hadn't she? She... yelled at him and then he got sick and then she had to go and keep the cure all to herself too? She was an awful girl, she knew this. There was no way for her to make it up, either. All she could do was hope that the medicine cats could treat them with what they did have and pray to Starclan to not let him die. It was a helpless feeling.

Even knowing all of this, Lupinepaw couldn't sit with herself without saying something to the boy. Why had she been so mean to him? She wanted to take it back so badly. She couldn't do that, though, so she would settle for what she could do from the confinement of her sickbed.

"Falconpaw...?" she lifted her head toward his resting form. She heard him rustling about just now, so she hoped he was still awake, "I-I wanted to tell you... I'm sorry. For uhm, yelling at you... You know, when we were training. I, uh, don't know why I did it. But I know that, uhm, it wasn't a fair thing to do to you."

She didn't know if her confession would lift any of the weight of guilt that pressed on her shoulders, but she was glad she said it, at least.

Being snapped at hadn't really occured to Falconpaw. Sure, he looked like a blubbering mess doing it, but something about being able to apologize for a silly mistake was fine. Cherrypaw had escalated that situation, and perhaps that's why it stuck in their minds now. Any other day, it was just a normal misunderstanding. A thought brushed him then- was anything here just a misunderstanding, or was it always targeted in some length? He was an outsider still. His sisters made sure of that.

A brief grunt left him as he shifted again. Did he mind being the outsider? Perhaps not really. He wasn't here to get attached- he was here to learn to hunt, kill, protect, so that he could return to the sewer and lead that colony to greatness. That's what he truly believed, anyways, though he wasn't sure he'd ever get it. Some part of him felt as if he'd never be able to make it out of camp. He wasn't even sure if he was ever going to leave this sickbed, but at least someone else would.

Speaking of the devil, she spoke. His ears twitched, eyes cracking open and head turning towards her. It ached with each move. Hopefully Fireflypaw would be around with something to ease that, soon. "Lupinepaw?" He responded in question, not truly understanding the exact nature of their relationship. Was she loyal to Cherrypaw, as their friendship had indicated? Was she going to say something rude and he'd have to deal with some cat out for his neck, as well? Any fear or doubt compounded by the stress of being sick melted away as she spoke.

A blink followed, and he slowly tilted his head. Confusion swam for a moment, recalling exactly what she said. A moment of understanding briefly flicked over his face, and a version of sadness followed. "You don't need to apologize. It was a mistake- an accident." His head suddenly turned, a cough following. His body shivered for a moment or two before he picked himself back up and looked back at her. In all honesty, he looked terrible- probably as terrible as he felt. He carried the conversation on, though. "We both did something wrong, but we've both apologized. That makes it... okay." He surmised.

"Is your tail okay?" He whispered moments later, blue eyes finally meeting hers. This entire time, they had rested on her paws. Eye contact was powerful, and he knew that- he just didn't always offer it to other cats.
