AFFLICTION [ROBINHEART]

The waves of nausea and her increased 'hatred' for food were the price of her selfish love. It was no doubt that the stars had blessed (or cursed) her with kittens with her mate, yet he was no Riverclanner. Riverclan and Windclan were enemies and yet they only had a selfless love for each other, and not even the rough history, time or distance could keep them separated. Gladefrost had found herself near the nursery and watching the kits, a pondering thought of what hers and Slateheart's children would look like. Would they have his eyes or his coat? What about the soft waves that tumbled over her long coat and her mane? Her chambray gaze drifts towards her stomach and she touches it slightly. She had undeniably gotten rounder in the weeks since she last saw her beloved.

A shuffling of paws behind her catches her attention, and she looks behind her to catch sight of Robinheart. "How's your leg feeling?" Gladefrost inquires with a slight tilt of her head and her cold gaze warming slightly at the sight of her best friend. Her throat felt tight, and she wanted to tell Robinheart about her expecting and they were of Windclan blood as well. There was a part of her that knew she could trust Robinheart, but what if someone else learned? Would she be in the same place as Swiftfire? Would her children face the same torment as Splashpaw did? Her eyes close in thought, her face clearly reading that she was dealing with overwhelming stress at her predicament. Glade just wished to rest in Slateheart's side and forget about the clans, just to live as a happy family where her kittens had father and mother.

@robinheart

Robinheart's pregnancy had not been seen as a blessing at first. It was a wedge placed between her and her mate. A reason for heartache that mended just in time for the kits to be born to two loving mothers. A short lived love. But love nevertheless - love that Robinheart recounts to her children as often as she can.

She will forever keep Brookstorm's memory alive until the day she is reunited with her beloved in StarClan.

The tortoiseshell limps as quietly as she can out of the nursery, making sure to not wake Claythorn and her newborn kits. Citrine eyes, aglow honey hued in the sunlight, behold Gladefrost settled nearby and it seems her best friend has noticed her as well. "Stiff, but functional. Moonbeam said I will always have a limp but it shouldn't stop me - only slow me down a bit," Robinheart purrs in response as she ambles to the brown tabby's side and aims to lightly bump her cheek against Gladefrost's head, noticing the look of concern etched into her friend's face.

Carefully does she lower herself beside the other molly, the crook in her leg hiccuping the once fluid motion. Robinheart glances ever so briefly at the slight roundness of Glade's midsection. The sound of kits playing (her's included) draw her attention away as quickly as it had begun and she casts her gaze over the bodies of fluff and energy a few tail lengths away. "How are you feeling?"

Gladefrost listens to her best friend's words, and she feels guilty - if she had acted faster, then Robinheart would've never ended up with scars or a permanent limp in her leg. A claw unconsciously taps against the dirt in thought until a rubbing of the tortie's check against hers and she snaps back to reality. "I don't think anything could ever stop you, even if you were frozen solid," she said confidently with a chuckle. Glade rubs her cheek back in response and allows for her best friend to settle beside her as she observes the kittens alongside Robinheart. How was she feeling?

"I'm okay," The umber rosette tabby remarks after contemplating what to say. There was no way she could ever tell Robinheart about Slateheart, especially when they were close to the nursery (with how nosy the queens seemed to be with gossip). A brown and white paw touches her growing stomach with a warmth that could melt even her icy gaze. "I'm expecting Robinheart. If..." Gladefrost would coo as she feels the weight of the world on her shoulders and tears prickle in the corner of her eyes. "If anything happens to me... would you make sure they behave?" Guilty flashed in her face and she felt selfish for asking, but she saw what happened to Swiftfire, and what if anything happened to her?

Those are the rogues that killed Smokestar and stole their home. What about if they found they carried Windclan blood? They would surely face a thousand times worth fate than Splashpaw encountered when she came to Riverclan. Would her kits have to grow knowing the hateful glares of her loved ones? Her shoulders shake as she feels tears stream down her cheeks and she whispers through sobs, "I - I made a mistake, Robin. It's a mistake that I would pick a hundred times more if I was given..."

Robinheart chuckles softly at Gladefrost's remark. For one so worried about her place in the world she is glad that the perception of her is one of perpetual motion. Always moving, always striving to be better - to do better. Nothing would hold Robinheart back. "True. I have a lot to live for… a purpose in my life that keeps me on my feet no matter what," the queen murmurs, her citrine gaze settled on her kittens as they play in the center of camp. "I'd leap into the jaws of a thousand hounds if it meant they stayed safe. If all of RiverClan stayed safe." Gladefrost especially included, though the tortoiseshell cannot imagine her best friend ever allowing her life be laid on the line for her.

Their conversation continues quiet, undisturbing of the queens within the nursery, and Robinheart feels her chest relax as Gladefrost admits to being alright. Though the feeling is short lived before continuing with a confession of pregnancy and a hope that Robinheart will look after her kits should anything happen. "Nothing is going to happen to you," Robinheart urges as she tears her vision away from her kits and stares at her best friend. Concern knits her brows but she manages a gentle smile towards the rosetted molly. "You're going to be a wonderful mother. And I'm going to be Auntie Robin and I will love your kits as if they were my own. I promise," she continues in a much softer tone; a gentle caressing of syllables to somehow make what she has said truth. Deep down she believes it to be true.

Sobs still tremble at umber shoulders, tears staining the face she has watched shift and change over the moons. Robinheart inches closer to Gladefrost and presses her nose to the other's cheek to comfort her. "Everyone makes mistakes… you don't have to tell me your mistake but just know that it would not change how much I care for you. And how much I will love and care for your children."

Gladefrost listens to her best friend with a soft smile cresting her lips. She knew that Robinheart still struggled with the loss of Brookstorm and their short-lived love, but she never allowed the loss to make her struggle. The tortoiseshell always prevailed - a striving force that never stopped - she was a splendid mother, friend, sister, and warrior. A soft sigh leaves her lips as she remembers the dog clutching her best friend within its jaws, and it was a sight that still haunted her to this day. Her stomach twists at the memory (and also mayhaps the protests of her kits towards Robinheart's statement) as she shakes her head slightly, "I don't know what I would do without my sister, and I don't think we have enough legs to break with how unlucky Riverclan can be sometimes." Gladefrost would murmur with a soft chuckle as she glances at Robinheart.

Robinheart is guaranteed to look at her after her statement, and she assures that nothing will harm her, a faint smile breaking through the seriousness of her words. Would she be a wonderful mother, as she suggests? It would only tell in time and she hopes that she can stay true to the words of her friend. "I'm probably just overthinking," Gladefrost would murmur as she relies the issue to being pregnancy hormones and her being overly emotional to everything currently. Her dark ears flick as Robinheart calls herself 'Auntie Robin' and she giggles softly as she nods her head in agreement. "You'll be taking the aunt's role now as well, it seems we're always going to share a den."

The soft touch of Robin's nose makes her use a paw to wipe her tears as her bottom lip trembles. "I don't know why I'm crying - I'm just scared..." She mumbles softly as she leans into the comforting touch of her best friend. Robinheart comforts her with carefully picked words and she nods in agreement, sniffling softly as she smiles at the tortie. "I understand... I love you too and I'll always love your children as my own too." Everything would be fine, like Robin said. Loving someone couldn't be a mistake, as long as she was loyal to her clan as well. Her long plumed tail wraps around her midsection as she uses a free paw to wipe the remaining trees and taking a deep breath to resolve her emotions.
