.°☀ I'll believe it all

The day had started as normal. They ate breakfast out of their bowl, and then they would leave for Skyclan that same day. Though things felt- different. More tense almost like there was something on the horizon that would turn everything upside down. Bananasplash had been sitting on the chair, grooming her coat, when suddenly she was grabbed by the male twoleg of her house. She looked at him confused as he normally never paid them much attention, but then there was that dastardly grey cage that came into view. She felt herself freeze in confusion as she was grabbed by the scruff and put into the grey plastic cage. Where were they going? She didn't understand.

Then they got into the monster that lurked outside of the den and she blinked a few times- where they going to the vet? For what? Bananasplash started to feel panic roll through her pelt and she found it hard to breathe so she pressed herself into the back of the cage. She shook slightly as they ride seemed to take longer than normal for the vet and she peaked out of the holes in the plastic for some sort of landmark. This wasn't something normal and she was so confused as to what was going on. She wanted to ask her brother but she could see him from where she was.

A large, white building came into view then and she felt her heart sink; the shelter.

Bananasplash couldn't keep up with what was going on around her as the cage was moved from the monster to a flat surface. Then she was taken from the cage and placed on something cold, and twolegs poked and prodded her. She hissed and swiped but there was nothing she could do to fight them off. The young tabby then found herself in a white cage with blankets and a bowl in it. She rushed for the cage door but it slammed shut, and she yowled loudly for someone to come get her but it was useless.

Her twolegs had left her and Cloudberry in the depths of hell.

The moment his sister is stuffed into one of the dreaded gray kennels, the blue-furred tom is on high alert. The morning has been normal so far; what changed? Still, he doesn’t fight back past simple resistance when one of his twolegs grabs him and urges him into a cage as well. Maybe they’re just taking a trip to the vet for some reason. He holds onto that hope for as long as possible, until he spots the building that he’s being carried into.

The shelter. His heart sinks, stomach twisting painfully. Betrayed. They’ve been betrayed by their own twolegs.

He fights back the same as his sister, hissing and growling and spitting, and even manages to catch one of the strange twolegs across the hand. After that, he’s scruffed none too gently and transported to another kennel, this one larger and metal. He looks around for his sister, but his mind is racing too quickly for anything to register besides the fact that he’s trapped and alone and abandoned by the very creatures that he thought loved him. "Nana…?" His voice cracks, tears finally pooling in his eyes, threatening to spill down his face. He’s—they’re both so special to their twolegs. Why are they here? He thought he was a good cat!

Maybe their twolegs grew tired of them. Maybe they didn’t want to deal with him and Bananasplash disappearing every day, only to return just before nightfall. Maybe he’d done something wrong. Had he cursed both himself and his sister? "Why would they bring us here?" He cuts himself off with a harsh sniffle, orange eyes screwed shut against the metal bars of the cage he’s trapped in.

His head is spinning, images of his sister—lost, alone, afraid—flashing across his mind. He can’t see her. Why can’t he see her? Where is she? He allows himself to slump against the bars of the cage, shoulders trembling with the effort of keeping his sobs contained. "Nana…? Please—I’m… I’m scared."

New arrivals always cause a bit of a stir, what with the upwalkers stomping around, slamming metal doors and all that, and newly-brought cats tend to be upset, and loud as a result. And there are many reasons to be upset at being brought to the shelter: cats are sometimes peeved to have been caught, afraid of the shelter, or — and this one is the worst — crying for their twolegs to come back.

Bunny hates that last one. It hits a little too close to home, and there’s nothing he can say to make that better.

These two cats that were just brought are the latter case, from the sound of it: one yells for someone to come back while the other tearily asks, Why would they bring us here? Bunny sighs in sympathy, ears pinning back against his skull, and heaves himself to his paws. He can only see one of them from his cage, a young tabby, but the other’s voice sounds close enough that he might hear Bunny anyway.

”They’re right there,” he calls out, hoping to reassure the unseen tom. ”It’s okay, you’re not far, right? You guys are safe here. You don’t have to be scared.”

No! N-No! This couldn't be right! Panic surged through a pale tabby coat, making it bristle to twice her size and she backed up into the cage wall. What was happening? Why where they here? She could barely hear Cloudberrythorn through the pounding her her own hear in her ears. There was a voice of another cat too- one she didnt recongize. Then it was like all of reality came crushing down on her and she scrambled for the front of her cage. She reached through the bars to Cloud as his cage was set down next to hers and her claws snagged at the metal slightly.

"Hey! It'll be okay," She was quick to speak, though her voice didn't sound confident and she didn't feel confident, "Skyclan knows of this place, of this shelter, and they'll come for us," There was attempts at comfort but yet it didn't seem like anything would stick. They had been brought here for unknowning reasons, their twolegs seemingly giving up on them but she had confidence this was only temporary.

He had figured, if anyone was going to be safe, it was the daylight warriors and apprentices. They already had twolegs- didn't need to be dropped off somewhere to be taken by one. And though he did not understand the appeal of weaving under monsters every morning, it had proved an asset for SkyClan to have their rank; the patrol that had crashed through the window resulting in Grizzlyridge's capture had seemed, from his limited vantage point, to be entirely comprised of daylight warriors. Therefore, the voices that cut through the air were a pair the bicolour warrior had not been expecting to hear.

"Bananapaw? Cloudberrypaw?" Bewilderment wobbled in his tone, their apprentice names still familiar on his tongue. The idea that they might have received their warrior names in the time that he was gone was unfathomable in that moment of gutting worry. Where most Skyclanners who arrived through the shelter's threshold sounded scared, these two... they just sounded upset. Bananapaw had tried to comfort her sibling, but.. her voice lacked the usual brightness that Twitchbolt had become familiar with.

"SkyClan's coming for us. I'm- ss-sorry you ended up here," he hummed, an attempt at comforting them both. He had done all he could to hold onto a final shred of hope, one that hat been somewhat rejuvenated by the patrol- he would be remiss to fail to share it.

Shell-shocked, Cloudberrythorn sits there, eyes squeezed shut and pressed against the bars of the cage, until something—someone interrupts. A voice, strange-sounding, clearly not belonging to one of his fellow SkyClanners, tells them that they’re safe. A lie. A lie. They aren’t safe here. They’re alone and abandoned and they’re going to die in here because there’s no way any of their clanmates—capable, stubborn cats, but a bunch of cats nonetheless—will be able to break them out. He and Bananasplash, along with the rest of their missing clanmates, will be trapped here forever. Doomed. They’ll be separated, surely, adopted by different families, and they’ll never see one another again. Of course, that’s assuming they do get adopted… assuming they don’t die in this miserable place.

Another sob catches in his throat, threatens to choke him with the force of it. "Safe?! We aren’t safe!" But then his sister’s voice comes from the cage beside his, and his eyes fly open once again. A white paw tucks itself between the bars of his cage, reaching for Bananasplash’s own. "Nana…" he murmurs, grateful that at least she’s here. But… why is she here? Of the both of them, how dare their twolegs throw out Bananasplash?

His newfound anger is disrupted by another voice, this one much more familiar. Twitchbolt. One of the first cats to go missing, he recalls, and one who was taken before the last clan meeting. The blue smoke sniffles, clamping his jaw shut to stave off a pathetic whine. "Actually, we—we aren’t apprentices, now. It’s Cloudberrythorn, and Bananasplash. And… there’s Violetnose and Figfeather and Greeneyes." The bicolored warrior also reassures them that SkyClan will come for them. It isn’t truly that comforting, but it’s better than nothing.
