Sundew had always been the most sober of all four of them, Celandinepaw thought. Composure came easy to her brother, as though his heart beat of marble, an immovable object chiseled from one so young. On the other end, Celandinepaw could hardly ever hold onto her wits, as though they were livewires sparking and speaking within her hands. She could not help that she was too big for her framework, too brilliant to be contained by a veil of flesh, and too wordy to ever allow her thoughts to tangle within her papery throat. A detriment more than a boon, at times, but she had simply been born that way (she surmised).
Upon the somber dawn, the stone-hued clouds roiled along a slowly-ambling sky, as though they had emerged from the sullen sable of the prior darkness. Quietude blanketed over Windclan, though the rounds of the dawn patrol still wove through the gorse and the heather. Celandinepaw had awoken, even before many of her peers that had been borne of the moorland's earth. The golden tabby grew used to early rousings, though the repose of a former barncat still crept through her veins, as though this life would have existed an austere fantasy mere moons ago. Whiskers twitched as a wide-eyed stare seared into sleeping and curling bodies, though there had been one clump missing from the rest... Where'd he go? Spotting her brother treading upon the well-worn camp, wheat-tinged eyes trained upon him for just a moment, the subfusc gleam upon her more of surprise than of contempt. To her, it seemed as though he were adapting better to clan life than she had, of which a twinge of envy rolled down her spine like it were sweat to shed. Straddling past the warmth of the apprentice den, the apprentice trotted up to Sundewpaw, donning a merry smile that wreathed upon sunshot countenance. "Hi, Sundew! Are you going anywhere? Can I join?"
