Somehow city cat and country cat both came to sit down near the stump of a tree, rambling about stories. It was Goat who currently went on and on from where he perched himself on the stump of the tree. "Yes... and this sooty owl ev'ry time I went huntin' was perched in its same fir tree... Starin' down at me with it's beady black eyes! It was rogues of the mountain said that the damn thing stole kits, stole em right from their mothers the foul beast did!" Why... Goat had never witnessed such an event himself... but why disbelieve those rogues? Especially when it just felt that creature was full of evil.

He remember's meeting its gaze once, Goat had never felt such a horrible, gut-wrenching, feeling! "To this day ya see... I believe that sooty owl was a demon. A monster from the deepest, darkest depths of hell, no doubt 'bout it mmmhmmm. All owls this is to- not a single one should ya trust. All bad. All demons. All bad luck." To see an owl was one of the worst omens one could get, most certainly. "So ye see Sammy , never think yer safe 'round an owl? Especially a sooty owl... oh kid, trust me when I say one would haunt ya in yer sleep if you ever are unfortunate enough to lay eyes on one..." And his ramblings subside.

He couldn't deny that stories were an entertaining pastime, be it rambling his own string of experiences or listening to another's tale. More than content to bask in what little sunshine warmed the earth in leaf-bare, Sam idly scratched behind his cheek with a hindpaw as Goat delved into a long-winded lesson on owls. Yeah, he could've guessed that about any bird of prey, but he didn't really think they were hell demons. Owls just did as owls do, like how cats did as cats do. If that made any sense. Wouldn't a cat be a hell demon to a mouse in turn?

Sam briefly cringed at the use of a nickname, paw dropping down from his scratching to squint at the older feline. He would let it pass; he doubted there was any malice behind it anyway. The red-furred tom leaned back against the stump, tilting his head to address Goat. "I've seen, like... one or two. From far away though," Sam admitted, recalling the nocturnal winged shadows in the sky, swooping between lamposts. "Hey, didja know that two-legs put out fake ones around their nests? To scare things off, or whatever. I've gone up and smacked one to check before, 'cause it hadn't moved in days."​

Oh... this was not surprising at all! Of course twolegs would partake in such devilish practices. "Fake? Fake owls? Seven hells, it all makes since ye see... Twolegs too are demonic creatures sent to earth to plague cat-kind. Of course, they create fake owls not only to scare but they worship the owls. Ye see now don't you? What a dark and foul world we live in? Terrible I say... terrible..." The old tom-cat lets out a genuine shudder of repulsion.

Then young Sammy reveals he's hit it, touched it! Oh he could just faint! "You've touched a demonic object?! What were you thinking, boy! Who the hell knows, maybe the curse it put upon ye is why we've been experiencing such shit luck. It could be why we got these damn ol' coyote's after us! How long was this boy? Have you at least tried to cleanse yourself of the terrors you allowed into yer body?! By interacting with such a horrid shrine!?"​
