private ANGELS EVERYWHERE I TURN ♥︎ LIONPAW

With her second litter's exiting the nursery, she knows it's time to take a step back. Time to let their mentors take on the work of raising them into the warriors that she knows she'll be proud of, and time for her to fade appropriately into the background and watch as they grow. After all, it's not fair to her growing children, with their vast futures and the golden paths sprawling ahead of them, to let herself haunt them. A cat steeped in tragedy, and marred by it, she could not possibly be a good influence on a budding warrior; she has certainly burdened them with her sadness enough as a queen.

Still, though, she'd like to know how they're doing on occasion. And their first days as apprentices are certainly an occasion . . . especially for Lionpaw. She knows that her son can be sensitive, and that her older son, designated as his mentor in some stumbling of fate, can be . . . not so much. It's not that she doesn't have confidence in Crowsight as a warrior—certainly she does, and she is proud of him from the distance that he seems to prefer—it's just that she's . . . uncertain, of his feelings towards his younger half - siblings. He hasn't been quite so involved as her other two, and while Lupinesong's affections towards them aren't necessarily the standard, it would just be . . . nice to know for certain that he cared, she supposes.

" Lionpaw? Hey, love, " she murmurs, pressing an affectionate lick to the top of her son's head while she still can. If he's anything like her other children, he's going to outpace her in height before she can blink. Even now, she has to raise herself on the toes of her paws to complete the loving gesture. She sits next to him in one of the few quiet moments a new apprentice has, nudging a plump scrub jay towards the torbie with a rare smile. " Caught fresh. So, how's training with your—with Crowsight been so far? Do you like it? "

" speech "

〕Leaving the nursery and everything he ever knew behind was something that did not come easy to Lionpaw. His littermates seemed more than eager to commence their training and explore, and while Lionpaw was too, he could not help the lingering weight of sadness that came with parting from Bobbie. They missed her a lot, but maybe resuming warrior duties was better for her. She could get out and patrol, unlike when she was stuck in the nursery. And... maybe this was better for Lionpaw, too. If he was going to be one of SkyClan's greatest warriors, he'd have to start training at some point.

However, the little moments where Bobbie and Lionpaw could talk alone were deeply cherished by the new apprentice. He wanted—he craved—her support, especially as he navigated all of these new lessons. A purr escapes Lionpaw's throat when Bobbie's tongue rasps over their head, just like how she used to do when they were a kit.

The molly's next gesture surprises him. With blue eyes alight with happiness, gaze flicking from the utterly scrumptious-looking avian to the brown-toned she-cat, he mewed, "Wow, Mama, did you catch that yourself?" Either way, the apprentice appreciated Bobbie's kindness. He was feeling a little hungry right about now.

The chocolate torbie point settles down in front of the fresh-caught jay, though he does not touch it yet as he formulates a response to his mother's inquiry, "It's goin'... good." Lionpaw does not want to come across as not appreciating his big brother's training. He did, but he wished that they could grow closer. "We've been goin' over a lot. Crowsight makes me work pretty hard." And... not much else. Lionpaw sometimes wondered what training with Lupinesong or Howlfire would be like; it would be hard work, but maybe not as... formal. He would undoubtedly have fun training with Drowsynose, too. Well, then again, was training supposed to be fun? Crowsight was teaching Lionpaw a lot, and maybe that was what truly mattered.

Lionpaw was curious about Bobbie's current status, too. She seemed more... energetic than she ever had before. Not by much, but seeing her walk around, make conversation with her clanmates, and patrol was an unfamiliar sight to Lionpaw. "Do you like being a warrior again?" Do you miss me as much as I miss you? Candorpaw and Hollypaw didn't seem to mind sleeping away from Bobbie all too much, especially since they had their other friends, but Lionpaw sure felt lonesome in his own nest.
