With her second litter's exiting the nursery, she knows it's time to take a step back. Time to let their mentors take on the work of raising them into the warriors that she knows she'll be proud of, and time for her to fade appropriately into the background and watch as they grow. After all, it's not fair to her growing children, with their vast futures and the golden paths sprawling ahead of them, to let herself haunt them. A cat steeped in tragedy, and marred by it, she could not possibly be a good influence on a budding warrior; she has certainly burdened them with her sadness enough as a queen.
Still, though, she'd like to know how they're doing on occasion. And their first days as apprentices are certainly an occasion . . . especially for Lionpaw. She knows that her son can be sensitive, and that her older son, designated as his mentor in some stumbling of fate, can be . . . not so much. It's not that she doesn't have confidence in Crowsight as a warrior—certainly she does, and she is proud of him from the distance that he seems to prefer—it's just that she's . . . uncertain, of his feelings towards his younger half - siblings. He hasn't been quite so involved as her other two, and while Lupinesong's affections towards them aren't necessarily the standard, it would just be . . . nice to know for certain that he cared, she supposes.
" Lionpaw? Hey, love, " she murmurs, pressing an affectionate lick to the top of her son's head while she still can. If he's anything like her other children, he's going to outpace her in height before she can blink. Even now, she has to raise herself on the toes of her paws to complete the loving gesture. She sits next to him in one of the few quiet moments a new apprentice has, nudging a plump scrub jay towards the torbie with a rare smile. " Caught fresh. So, how's training with your—with Crowsight been so far? Do you like it? "
