Mismatched eyes have adjusted to the cold dark air below the moorlands. The winding channel connect across the flow of the hills, and while the apprentice typically finds himself hunting within the dark or maintaining their integrity, today is different. Today, he and a few other tunneler apprentices are tasked with putting their memory to the test. While the group descended into the winding tunnels, several attending warriors broke off to hide. Now with the group a good distance away from where the very last warrior had departed, they are given the directive to remember the mapping of the tunnel, using it to find every single hidden warrior.

A confident smug grin tugged across the tom's maw as he looked to the apprentices next to him. "Whoever finds the most warriors is the winner, yeah? Losers gotta fill the winners nest with all the wool and feathers from their own. Sound like a deal?" His ambitious betting earned him a scolding glance from a supervising mentor only for him to laugh it off. Fine, no bets. He would still make it a competition, though.

// feel free to roll your tunneler apprentices shot at finding a hidden warrior! for as many apprentices attend this thread, there will be at least 1 warrior for them to either find or miss :)
// warriors are free to post as either one of the hiding cats OR a supervising the apprentices

♱—— "this is a good way to lay down the basics for your trackin' training, luckypaw." cygnetstare instructs her apprentice as she trails after the other attending warriors, flicking her overlong tail against @LUCKYPAW's flank as a last caution emerges in gravelly tones, "stick near the other apprentices. i'm sure you'll do great, kid." with a final twitch of tattered ears, she vanishes into one of the dim mouths branching off of this passageway in a breeze of grave-scent, mismatched fur vanishing into the darkness in a matter of seconds. she chooses her hiding spot and tucks her small frame into a branching part of the wall that used to be a particularly large rabbit den, shielded from passing cats. the apprentices will really have to use their noses and ears to find her, she hopes, folding herself into the hollow.

the sounds of heatherpaw's ambitious bet and the returns from his companions fade behind her quickly, leaving her in a comfortable silent darkness that might scare another cat, but only comforts cygnetstare. she settles her head on her paws and waits, viscera eyes staring into the gloom from her little burrow.

  • ooc: any apprentices, feel free to find her! bonus points if you get jumpscared

  • ♱ cygnetstare — for their downy kitten-fur and perceptiveness (or uncanny gaze)
    she/they ; afab gender apathetic — windclan — tunneler — 34 ☾s
—— cygnetstare is a corpselike chimera, split between long albino fur and a short black smoke pelt; their eyes are an unsettling pink. her creepy demeanour distracts from a strange fascination with death and an obsessive loyalty to windclan.
—— smells like grave-dirt and blood ; sounds like vc tbd ; speech in #BF959C, thoughts in #000000
—— peaceful / healing powerplay permitted ; attacks/contact in underline ; will start fights ; won't flee unless ordered ; won't show mercy ; will kill or maim
—— pansexual panromantic monogamist, single, not looking ; open to friendships, enemies, casual interactions, long-term romance, plotting ; not open to unplanned battles, flings

  • battle stuff goes here for fights

While hide and seek was admittedly a good way to test the tunnel traversal skills of their tunneler apprentices, Rattleheart would be the first to admit that wasn't the sole reason he was doing it. A large part of the monochrome feline had agreed just because he thought that the experience would be fun. It had been what felt like ages now since he had been a kit or apprentice, and he couldn't even remember the last time he'd played hide and seek with Scorchstreak and Lizardbounce. Although what he did remember was losing a lot back then, as he had been prone to giggling from wherever he found himself stashed away - which would hopefully not be a problem these days.

Descending down into the tunnels not long after his fellow warriors, Rattle didn't actually have an ingenious plan of where to hide tucked away in the back of his mind. Instead he just let his paws carry him down the winding paths until he reached an area of lingering fox scent. It was all stale, but still reminded him of exactly where he was - near an old fox den that had been abandoned some time ago. It hooked right up to the tunnels, allowing him to slip inside and hide himself around the edge of the entrance. Any apprentice not yet experienced in telling the difference between old and new scents would be put off by the smell of fox, and those who were would hopefully be able to tell that Rattleheart's scent went trailing inside.

// open for finding by anyone !!

When it'd first been asked if he would participate in 'hide and seek', the serious Tunneler had blinked incredulously and enquired about the strategic purpose of such a thing. Then, when the idea was raised that the Apprentices could learn how to track, he'd relented and tentatively agreed to get involved for their sakes (though shame still burned his mind at how ridiculous the idea was). Down in the tunnels, Sootspot's ears angled towards the back of his head, anticipating at any point that an apprentice would jump on his long-furred spine. There were no places he was particularly keen on hiding in, the tunnels were a vast expanse of dangerous dead ends and obfuscating corners, any place where he knew he wouldn't be found by an apprentice was one where he knew the likelihood of escaping unscathed would be nigh impossible. Instead, the chimera dedicated himself to a burrow that required maintenance, his scent vaguely concealed by the drying mud upon his fur. It wasn't particularly pleasant, but he figured he would have to at least put some effort in 'to help the apprentices' - a phrase he was truly beginning to regret as he quietly began pushing loose soil to one side.

/ open to being found since!! he's not rlly trying HBFNJDKSL
