  With medium-length fur that is longer than most of her fellow ThunderClanners, Softpaw is a small she-cat where others are tall. She has pure white fur that tends to blend in with the snow during Leafbare, the only distinguishing feature being her calm, pink eyes.

  A precocious child, Softkit displays a certain intelligence and curiosity that is above average for peers her age.   As an apprentice, Softpaw has become more calm and reserved with herself and her words, though she is just as observant as she was as a child. She finds some trouble in asking for help, but in getting herself to ask, gains confidence and finds that she can learn more than if she tried by herself. GENTLESTORM / ♡♡

We all owe a great deal to Gentlestorm in ThunderClan. I respect him beyond all else, and hope to one day be as good for the Clan as he is. I really enjoy when he takes the time to talk with me and teach me about his work... perhaps one day I could work closer with him. I do think his heart is a bit wild, as he follows it wherever it goes, even if it takes him outside of ThunderClan's borders. He needs someone to balance him out.

Skyclaw... I didn't know him well before, but I feel for the first time true hate towards another cat because of his actions. How dare he murder his own grandmother and take over ThunderClan so crudely? Where does he find the gall to strip me and my sister of our given names, and name us according to our weaknesses? StarClan will surely strike him down, one day.

I don't quite understand Dawnglare. Though, it wouldn't surprise me if no one understood him - he speaks in riddles that might just be nonsense. I feel as though I'm less than a speck of dirt to him, but he is a medicine cat, even if from another Clan - he deserves my respect for that alone, strange though he might be. I want to prove myself in his eyes, to a certain degree...

KITHOOD APPRENTICESHIP WARRIOR

• Softkit and her sister Vixenkit are born to Whitelion and Spiderlily in the ThunderClan nursery. She is born with a fevercoat in the midst of the yellowcough outbreak, while there are cats away on the Journey trying to find a cure for the sickness. She and her small family reside peacefully in ThunderClan. When WindClan is driven from their home and come to stay with ThunderClan, Softkit meets Featherkit one night. She questions whether Sunfreckle is really part lion.
  
  Eventually, the rogues come for ThunderClan, starting the rogue invasion that drove the Clans from their territories, at which point her family and the rest of ThunderClan find refuge in in ShadowClan's territory, along with WindClan and RiverClan. While residing in WindClan, Softkit plays with the kits from the other Clans. Later, she is playfully given the name 'Softstorm' as deputy of ThunderClan during a kit Gathering where she meets Halfkit, Pink-kit, Nettlekit, Carawaykit, Heathkit, Singedkit, and Bumblekit. Later on, during a nursery icebreaker, she is introduced to Apricotflower, Maplepatch, Howlfire, Brightshine, Bitekit, and Butterflytuft. She questions whether ghosts don't have better things to do than haunt the nursery when Halfkit tries to scare the other kits away.
  
  While in ShadowClan, Softkit tries to play a game with Bitekit and is victim to his bad mood. She also checks in with Halfkit, wondering if the ShadowClanner's sister really died in the nursery. She and Bumblekit try to stay warm in ShadowClan's nursery. Eventually, the time comes for the Clans to return to their own territories after the fight against the rogues has been won, and Softkit awakens to the good news.
  
  Once safely back at home, Softkit sees Foxkit interact with an older tom that they both don't know. As Leafbare falls over the Clans, Softkit discovers snow for the first time, and comes away from it not knowing exactly how to feel. She first learns of the Great Battle that came before the Clans through Pigeonpaw and Raccoonstripe, and notes that the latter seems rather somber. The cruelties of Leafbare are laid bare before her when she loses a small flower to the snow. Bravekit and Softkit discuss the snow and how to beat it. Softkit later questions Flamewhisker about her spending more time with Falconheart than Stormfeather, and learns that Stormfeather was injured by a dog during the Journey. In the spirit of the season, Softkit witnesses and is dragged into a snowball fight.
  
  On the eve of her apprentice ceremony, she contemplates names, and what hers might one day be.
• Softkit is named Softpaw under Howlingstar and apprenticed to Honeydapple. She is the last wave of apprentices to be ranked up at four moons, and shortly thereafter, a new tenet in the Code declares that kits must be six moons to become apprentices. She quickly busies herself with chores, and gives her opinion on the new Code. She goes to Marigoldpaw for advice on being an apprentice and dealing with mentors. She later witnesses Vixenpaw, Foxpaw, Lovepaw, Joypaw, Sunshinepaw, and Bravepaw get scolded by Howlingstar for their decision to go out and hunt an owl. Softpaw gets pulled into a playful moss fight with Badgerpaw and Palepaw while doing chores. While checking in on Vixenpaw's recovery, Softpaw meets Thistlekit. Not long after, she chastises Bravepaw for his decisions. She has a short conversation with Pigeonpaw where they catch up.
  
  A lone grey wolf is sighted near Sunningrocks by a patrol, and Softpaw offers up an idea for how to take precautions. Not long after, an abandoned kit is brought back to ThunderClan, and comments that Softpaw looks like his mother. A few apprentices are held back from becoming warriors and Softpaw briefly fantasizes about her own warrior ceremony. Another kit is brought back to ThunderClan, and Softpaw worries about the kits' safety amidst the overhanging threat of wolves. Softpaw watches Sparrowkit play in the mud from afar.
  
  With the coming of Newleaf, Softpaw watches Adderpaw talking to a spider. Another kit is brought to ThunderClan, and Softpaw makes herself useful by fetching the new addition some prey. She's put on cleaning duty with Antpaw and Adderpaw.
  
  The unthinkable happens when wolves invade ThunderClan's camp, and she asks her fellow apprentices what they should do - she is able to escape to the top of the ravine alongside most of the other ThunderClanners, though the Clan is not without its casualties. In the aftermath of the wolf invasion, Softpaw offers her assistance in anything that needs to be done, shaken by the events. Alongside Thistlepaw and Dustpaw, Softpaw helps repair the camp's walls. Bravepaw is discharged from Gentlestorm's care, and Softpaw admires his exuberance. Later, while a patrol is out looking to get rid of the wolves, Softpaw suggests that she, Adderpaw and Dustpaw play a game to pass the time and prevent worrying. During Sunfreckle's vigil, Softpaw thanks him for his sacrifice. Palefire and Howlingstar return from the wolf-baiting patrol, and Softpaw rushes to get Gentlestorm to help Howlingstar.
  
  After the wolves have been defeated, Howlingstar declares that she will still go to that moon's Gathering despite her injuries, where she proposes a new tenet to the Code. Softpaw witnesses Ravenstrike pick on Lightflower for abandoning her post during the wolf attack. Softpaw comments on how Sparrowkit and Bravepaw will make great warriors one day. Not long after, Softpaw comes across Beetlekit being terrorized by a bug. In camp, Softpaw offers to go out hunting. She comes across Adderpaw and a bird, and offers some wisdom. Softpaw comes across a collapsed anthill and Beetlekit and Yewkit hovering over it. Softpaw wonders what the inside of Howlingstar's den is like.
  
  The time comes for vigils for those lost to the wolves, and Gentlestorm begins with Nightbird's - Softpaw thanks the warrior for his service. During Batwing's vigil, she recalls how surreal his death is when just a few days ago he was ordering the apprentices to help with repairs. She thinks that Batwing will live on in his surviving family.
  
  While out hunting one day, Softpaw hears a cry for help, and alongside Badgerstripe they find a kittypet stuck in a tree - Softpaw helps the kittypet get down, and is by his side when a patrol takes the kittypet back to camp. When they meet with Howlingstar, she declares that Angus should spar with Palefire to prove his worth, and Softpaw bears witness to this test.
  
  Softpaw has a conversation with Luckypaw over whether the new season will bring out more prey. She comes across Tornadokit, who claims he's bored, and she offers him some options to cure that boredom. While trying to get a meal, Darkpaw pettily steals away a piece of prey, and Softpaw lets him, saying that he isn't worth her time. Softpaw listens in as Gentlestorm tells stories to the kits, and when he falls asleep, she suggests the kits play the quiet game and let him rest. One day, in an act of bravery, Howlingstar is taken away by an eagle and Softpaw can only watch in horror - not long after, a stranger returns with Howlingstar at her side, and Softpaw notices that she and the stranger look quite similar to one another. She welcomes Thundergleam to ThunderClan.
  
  Tybalt finds an Easter egg and Softpaw questions what it is. Tinystorm finds comfort in a rainy day, but Softpaw ushers kits back into the nursery lest they catch cold. When Crescentpaw wakes up at dawn, Softpaw offers to help her with chores later on in the day. One day, Lynxroar's kits go missing, and Softpaw offers to help the she-cat look for the apprentices. Flamewhisker has her kits and Softpaw congratulates the queen. When Redpaw finds himself a little lost, Softpaw extends a helping paw. While Meadowkit has questions about SunClan, Softpaw wonders if she'll ever have the chance to meet with StarClan before her time comes. When a hunting patrol returns with a deceased Flycatcher, Softpaw can only hope that the rogues that killed him won't come back. She laments the loss of Flycatcher at the next meeting.
  
  On a seemingly average day, the sun disappears and Softpaw hurries to let Howlingstar know of this development. A few days later, Softpaw seeks out an older apprentice, Tawnypaw, to help her with hunting techniques. She offers any assistance to Honeydapple, who's mate had gone missing the day the sun disappeared. While doing chores with Rookpaw, Softpaw wonders what the sun disappearing could mean. When Honeydapple returns from looking for Grizzlyjaw, Softpaw lets her know that he didn't return while she was out. Softpaw entertains a group of kits that are surrounding a spider.
  
  Softpaw catches Roaringpaw sneaking out of camp and follows him. They come to an understanding, and promise to train together to better themselves. She later accepts her Clanmate's request that he go by he and she pronouns. A kit is brought back to camp by Nightbird. Freckleflame returns to camp with the news that Wolfwind has died, and Softpaw gets Gentlestorm. Softpaw helps Sparrowkit come to terms with leaving the nursery for the apprentices' den. At that meeting, Leafhusk is named as a leaf warrior. On Coalkit's moonday, she encourages his proactive training. When Yewflame throws a caterpillar off of himself, Softpaw agrees that bugs can be bothersome. Softpaw asks Boldkit if he's ever had rabbit before. Softpaw welcomes Wrathpaw into the apprentices' den.
  
  With Gentlestorm needing to complete his training, Dawnglare, medicine cat of SkyClan, comes to stay with ThunderClan. Softpaw is deeply intrigued by the other medicine cat. While lost in thought about what being a medicine cat means, Softpaw comes across Adderpaw watching a chrysalis. She watches as Shiningsun readies flowers for someone he loves. A patrol comes back with prey stolen from SkyClan, and Soft questions the ethics of this. When she gets a chance, Softpaw questions Dawnglare on why he became a medicine cat, and what it takes to become one. The conversation leaves her frustrated and curious. She channels her frustration into a spar with Dawnpaw. When Falconheart doubts himself, Softpaw reassures him that StarClan holds no ill will against him.
  
  Softpaw scolds Webpaw, Mousenose, and Darkpaw for their attitudes. Later, Softpaw and Mintpaw share a piece of prey. During a meeting, Softpaw considers the relationship between ThunderClan and its borders. Unfortunately, Roaringpaw eats a poisoned mouse and becomes sick, and Softpaw helps him. While her fellow apprentices complain about their mentors, Softpaw listens from the side. Softpaw goes to Gentlestorm and questions him in the same way she did to Dawnglare, about why he became a medicine cat. When Gentlestorm runs off to help RiverClan without warning, Softpaw waits anxiously back at camp for his return. She later checks in on Roaringpaw in the medicine cat's den.
  
  While watching Bravepaw and Fallowpaw spar, Softpaw thinks that Fallowpaw will win. When Roaringpaw is left behind while his mentor goes to the Gathering, Softpaw stays by his side. She welcomes Deerpaw into the apprentices' den. During a conversation about names, Softpaw tries reassuring Skyclaw about his name. When Howlingstar returns from the Gathering, she lets the Clan know that blood was spilled from a medicine cat, and Softpaw can hardly believe her words. Upon seeing a Twoleg kit, Softpaw comments on how loud and unsightly they are. Softpaw becomes frustrated with Thundergleam's reading of an "omen".
  
  During a patrol under Falconheart, Softpaw and the patrol come across a destroyed monster being picked up by an even larger monster - she wonders if the Twolegs have anything to do with how the monsters act. She watches Antlerpaw attempt to climb the Great Sycamore under Howlingstar's watchful gaze. At Orangepaw's suggestion, Softpaw helps him and others weave new nests for Gentlestorm's den. In another conversation about names, Softpaw debates whether its irreverent or not to one's parents to change one's name. Bravepaw questions what 'honor' means, and Softpaw suggests its the sum of everything. When its announced that Gentlestorm will be training Moonbeam, RiverClan's medicine cat, Softpaw wonders aloud if he should consider taking on an apprentice to train at the same time.
  
  Lovelight brings back feathers to camp and Softpaw laments their fate at the paws of waiting kits. She welcomes Wolfpaw into the apprentices' den. A menagerie of apprentices are made into warriors, but with this comes the revelation that Howlingstar will be sending kittypet-blooded Clanmates away from ThunderClan for their own safety amidst killing of other kittypet-blooded warriors.
• Softpaw becomes a warrior under Skyclaw's undeserved leadership of ThunderClan, with the tom naming her Carrionshriek to mock her silence and inaction. When Carrionshriek visits Gentlestorm after the medicine cat is attacked by Skyclaw, he calls her Softsong and she redresses his wounds. When Doepath is hit by a monster, Carrionshriek and a patrol help get her back to ThunderClan's camp. When the time comes to usurp Skyclaw from his wrongful throne, Carrionshriek finds her voice and battles for ThunderClan's future. Flamewhisker holds a small meeting in the aftermath of Skyclaw's death. Later, after Flamewhisker has taken back ThunderClan, Carrionshriek pleads that Gentlestorm won't go on the journey to the Moonstone, but he goes anyway.
  
  While waiting for Flamewhisker and Gentlestorm to return, Carrionshriek speaks with Nightbird. Thundergleam decrees that Flamewhisker and Gentlestorm have safely made it to their destination, and Carrionshriek agrees reticently.
