♱—— The half-moon chimera has been restricted solidly to the medicine den now, and she is far too weak to even protest such a thing—even after treatments have been doled out, her neck throbs dully and she spends much of her time either sleeping or in a foggy haze of waking. She spends all of her time in a nest for now, perhaps surrounded by the other casualties of the battle or not, depending on whether anyone else was too badly injured. Perhaps some come in to visit the other patients or the one who tends them; often, she's not entirely sure who's here and who's not as her body refills itself with the vital crimson fluid of life. Soon enough she will return to her normal state, but so soon after the battle she is still heavily mending. Today she is unusually awake, unusually aware, and a mouse some undefined shape had brought her lays between mismatched paws as her head is shakily raised.

A couple bites are taken out of it, but primarily it is untouched except for the long shaky claw-incision up its belly. Into this she looks with a faint curiosity, though she's done this before; not every piece of prey she's caught, of course, but she's done it before. It intrigues her to see the inner machinations of beasts, to wonder if cats are the same inside; to see how fragile everything truly is, how they are only held here by the grace of StarClan's sparkling claws. For those who knew him, it might be eerily reminiscent of Mallowlark, but for her it's simply a way to pass the long hours penned up in the den of the injured and ill.

  • ooc: for rev's ooc prompts! + set in the medicine den post battle
Most of Cygnet's clanmates see her as a little...strange. To be fair, it seems that most of WindClan's tunnelers are. There is simply something extra unsettling about her. What is her weirdest habit? Write a thread showcasing it, or perhaps another character's reaction to it. You could reach out OOC and find a character who would cause some conflict over it, if you so desire...

  • CYGNETSTARE's BATTLE INFO ——♱

    YES: injuries, scarring
    ASK: maiming, permanent injuries
    NO: killing
    — Small and skinny, hiding sinewy muscle in forelegs and chest from digging. Skilled offensive fighter but limited by size, defense is basically nonexistent; snakelike agility fighter, faster than she looks and slippery. Will try to climb on and move around larger opponents to inflict damage. Extremely brutal despite her size and will always aim to inflict maximum damage; lacks honor and will fight dirty. Battle moves often damage herself as much as her opponent.

    — Will fight to kill and maim. Will start fights. Will not run unless ordered to. Will aim to kill and maim cats regardless of age or rank, including young cats.

    — Her battles will be written very aggressively and she will always aim to kill or seriously injure opponents; this does not mean her hits have to land! I don't mind your character dodging hits; feel free to contact me on-site or on Discord to work out specifics if needed. Will have a harder time against larger cats but keep in mind she is written as a good offensive fighter who aims to kill and/or seriously hurt. I'm not open to her being killed but am willing to discuss maimings (please ask me first though).

    — Their defensive fighting skills are borderline nonexistent. All hits will land except attempts at killing or maiming that haven't been prediscussed. I don't roll for attacks or defense but try to write battles realistically.

The scent is really what drew her. The stagnant blood that wafted from the mouse who was apparently carved open for observation. So when the smell didn't clear and instead she caught sight of the white furred she-cat peering into the belly of the prey, a brow lofted. She pushed to her paw, the smaller she-cat approaching. The closer she got, the more her eyebrows rose and her eyes squinted, and she finally paused in her approach- a mere foot or two away from the other.

"The fuck are you doing?" She finally proclaimed, because for the life of her, she couldn't figure it out. Why bother inspecting all of that? You just ended up eating it anyways. She could perhaps understand clearing the bones of all tissue for trophy or something akin, but it was a bit out there to just dig into the guts and stare at them. Sanguinerush's eyebrows drew back together as she looked on, her tail swaying low in distaste.

── .∘°°∘. ── Sharing close quarters with Cygnetstare has been...interesting, to say the least. As a tunneler, they were often performing their duties where Wolfsong did not. Their encounters within camp and her general disposition have certainly crafted an impression, but it's only now that she's within the medicine den where Wolfsong now works that the further eccentricities are revealed. Had she not been incapacitated recently, he's not certain he would have discovered this curiosity before.

He does so between accounting for recent herb usage, when he glances over at the stronger scent of mouse innards. Cygnetstare presiding over the splayed remains of her meal is not what he thought he'd find, and evidently, her interest has drawn the attention of other WindClanners.

Clearing his throat, he turns fully from his herb stocks to face the pair. "Studying a mouse, it seems," he says evenly. Her curiosity is of no harm, unless she intends to make for herself new corpses of clanmates. "Though I do hope you eat a little more, Cygnetstare."

WOLFSONG of WINDCLAN FORMER ROGUE TURNED MEDICINE CAT. 36 MOONS, HE/HIM, NPC X NPC. MATES WITH SUNSTRIDE (07/05/2023). BIOGRAPHY, PINTEREST, & PLAYLIST.
  • ★★★☆☆ WOUNDS: You're (mostly) in safe paws. You'll know if he's less experienced if he asks for your permission to try a treatment. No wound can scare him away from knowledge. — ★★★☆☆ INFECTION: He can prevent most infections. If you feel feverish, let him know— he'll hum thoughtfully over herbs and sniff your wound before saying, "With your blessing..."
  • ★☆☆☆☆ ACHES & PAINS: If you complain to him of pain, he'll ask where. If it's a headache, you'll likely feel a bit better. For anything else, "Try this, if you'd like, and tell me how you feel." — ★☆☆☆☆ BROKEN BONES: At best. he can ask you to remain lying down in the den. He may try to distract you with conversation while he considers what herb to feed you.
  • ★★★★★ TRAVELING HERBS: Going somewhere? No worries; Wolfsong knows just what you need to stay hale and healthy during your journey. The rest is up to you. — ☆☆☆☆☆ KITTING: He doesn't remember what it was like to be born. Coincidentally, that is the extent of his familiarity with kitting. At least he won't leave you without moral support.
  • ★☆☆☆☆ POISONS: It's best if you avoid eating anything unfamiliar to you— it's probably just as unfamiliar to Wolfsong. The best he can do is offer you yarrow and sit with you. — ★★☆☆☆ ILLNESS: If it's white or greencough, you'll likely recover. Otherwise, prepare for odd concoctions and the usual request that you consent to a little trial-and-error.

It had taken some time for Rattleheart to get used to just how odd Cygnetstare could be, but working alongside his fellow tunneler had at least gotten him used to her eccentricities. Even if they did sometimes tend to make his skin crawl beneath his pelt, twitching anxiously even as he'd work alongside her. Still, though, he wasn't sure any amount of time could have prepared him for this particular little habit.

Sanguinerush's sharp voice was the first thing he heard as he stepped inside Wolfsong's den, having been visiting to make sure his shoulder was healing up alright. His plans were pushed to the side when he heard his fellow tunneler's disgust, though, following her gaze over to where Cygnetstare was laying. The sharp stench of blood was hardly unusual for the medicine den, but it took a moment for him to realize just how strong it was, filling the air as it curled up from Cygnetstar's unwilling little victim. The sight made his stomach twist, but he didn't react quite as obviously as Sanguinerush.

Instead he just settled nearby, chuckling nervously as he stared at the poor mouse clutched in the chimera's claws. "Well, I guess I admire the curiosity. I think a hare would probably be more interesting than a mouse." Although the sudden vision of a hare pinned open in the same manner made his stomach clench even further. Hopefully he wouldn't end up getting sick in poor Wolfsong's den. "Wolfsong's right though, make sure you don't pull it apart so much that you don't have anything left to eat." He had to assume that she had already taken a few bites of her own - considering the chunks missing from the rodent's body - but she needed the energy if her body was going to continue healing.

hollypaw was making her rounds amongst the wounded, delivering piece by piece of prey to those that could not fetch it themselves. unfortunately, she was one piece short. murmuring a small apology to the last injured windclanner, she darted off back to the pile to retrieve something for them. she settled on a small field mouse, it would have to do.

upon returning, there was a wafting scent of blood. it had her nose screwing slightly, but she could find the source. not until the growing crowd cygnetstare brought had shifted allowing her to get a visual. the prey in her jaws fell to the ground as she watched the tunneler mutilate, but not eat, the mouse. nobody seemed too disturbed other than sanguinerush who was refreshingly stunned compared to rattleheart and wolfsong. this was not normal, but hollypaw would be lying if she said she wasn't slightly intrigued.

the apprentice fixed the stunned look on her face, morphed into something more neutral. "what's inside?" she had never seen the inside of anything before, too caught up in hunger to really look as cygnetstare was doing.

Bluepool is lucky to have escaped the clutches of the medicine cats den. When Wolfsong had spoken and told her she was to rest in her own bed she had taken the confinement with little complaint, knowing what a gift the golden tom had afforded to her. In her mind, the medicine cats den is a terrible place filled with sickness and death but more importantly, a curse. If she had to spend any amount of prolonged time in there she is certain she would fall into madness.

She reflects, as she watches the strange molly tear into her prey, that Cygnetstare is immune to the curse because she already was gripped by madness. "It is unbecoming of a warrior to play with their food" she says, a slight sneer upon her lips and disgust plain in her voice. She just hopes the youth of this clan do not pick up such a disgusting habit. Already Hollypaw is asking what's inside and Bluepool is horrified by the notion that others may desecrate their prey in such a way.

Snakepaw had been raised "proper" (as far as clan cats went, anyway). WindClanners were brutal and bloodthirsty by nature, but his moor-born parents believed that Snakepaw had a long generational reputation to uphold and as such he should carry himself better than his clanmates. His father's sister had birthed a curse from StarClan, so the weight of the family legacy really fell upon solely his shoulders. Anything less than what was expected of Snakepaw was met with a firm rebuke and a lecture.

As such, Snakepaw would not be caught "playing with his food" in the public eye. He wouldn't be lying if he also wasn't curious about the innards of prey, but in the same vein, it was quite a disgusting thing to fathom. "Cygnetstare has always been a bit odd in the head. Are we really surprised?" Snorted Snakepaw with a lash of his tail. Most cats who were "abnormal" tended to earn his criticisms, but he did enjoy the presence of some cats like Mintshade. Cygnetstare, however... even their appearance was unsettling.

He concurs with Bluepool, green stare flicking down toward the cut-open prey before turning his head with a mutter, "Not the most appetizing display, nonetheless."

♱—— they might offer a sarcastic sigh if they had the thought to do so (they do not); can a cat not mess around a little? she's certain some of her clanmates hold odder habits, odder superstitions, and she'll eat it in the end anyways. in answer to sanguinerush and wolfsong they offer a cautious nod and reply, "ayuh, i'm just havin' a look-see. you ain't never wondered what's in the stuff we eat?" cygnetstare stretches gingerly, careful of her neck, and takes a bite of the mouse's unsplit flesh in appeasement, swallowing and adding, "yeah, yeah, i'll eat it when i'm done. no sense in wastin' a good meal."

rattleheart, thankfully, offers a more relaxed reaction. hollypaw's more curious, as she is, questioning, and she will answer as best she can, "i 'unno, really. buncha guts and stuff. ya might be better off asking the expert in residence." she motions to wolfsong, taking another bite of the prey; she hadn't expected her little hobby to catch so much attention. bluepool expresses a reaction more like sanguinerush's and cygnetstare fixes her with a deadened pale stare. play with her food? stars above, she's simply looking into it, there's no harm, and it'll get eaten in the end. her tattered ears twitch in irritation at the lead warrior's words; she doesn't particularly appreciate being spoken to like a misbehaving kit, but she keeps her mouth shut for now.

naturally, peace escapes her at the hand of that little camp irritation, snakepaw. she further doesn't appreciate being spoken about as though they aren't there in the room, especially by an apprentice of all things. "well, i'll take ya criticism once you've spilt some real blood for the clan, snakepaw." her overlong tail twitches irritatedly; the implication is clear. she'll take this from a lead warrior, but not an apprentice who hadn't even been fit to join the battle that had landed her in this den in the first place. cygnetstare takes another bite, "you can all relax, anyways. i'm eatin' it."
