AUTUMN'S BOUNTY // butterflypaw

[FIGFEATHER]

The cold air was growing to be chilling to the bone. With each passing day Figpaw wished more and more that she had been blessed with longer fur like some of her fears, perhaps than her fur coat would stiffle some of the chill. Alas, even though short-furred she could still tell she's put on a winter coat. Her fur was just the slightest bit thicker, Figpaw felt it was quite pathetic she couldn't grow more but... at least it was something.

In her thoughts of the cold and her pelt, the wind picks up a leaf and blows it over to her paws. The girl looks down at it, lifeless and colorless it was, brown and crumbled, on its last leg. Still Figpaw gently smiles and fills her cheeks with air prior to giving the leaf her own self-made gust of wind, and stars that leaf flew! All the way over to her... resting sister... Butterflypaw... Oh. Figpaw knew how uh- Butterflypaw was, she grimaces knowing that all she could do is brace herself for some type of startled reaction.

[butterflytuft]

Purring, Butterflypaw lies curled up outside the apprentice's den, relaxing in the gentle breeze. Unlike Figpaw, her pelt is thick and fluffy, and she's comfortable in the chilly air. Of course, this comfort won't last long as soon as the snow hits. But for now, she can enjoy it while it lasts. With her muzzle delicately resting atop forepaws, she remains blissfully unaware of the leaf that flutters closer and closer to her. Unassuming and brittle, and yet when it lands on her back, it shoots ice through her veins.

She shoots to her paws, eyes blown wide and a yelp leaving from between clenched teeth. Remarkably, she doesn't display a single survival instinct. Not fight nor flight. She is merely frozen as the leaf remains on her back, and the longer it sits there, the longer she mentally panics over what it could possibly be. A spider? A wasp? She can't bear to look!​

Just like porcupine quills, Butterflypaw's multi-colored fur in the blink of on eye rises on edge. The apprentice leaps to her paws with a yelp and merely stands there as if she was frozen in time. Figpaw doesn't understand how Butterflypaw was so scared of everything, but she's use to it from growing up with her slightly older sister.

Figpaw approaches the trembling feline and plucks the dried up leaf from her back before spitting it out at her black forepaws. "Leaf." She grins, "And not like one of those weird stick bugs that I put in your nest once." Figpaw assures with a giggle.​
