”WATCH OUT!” The abrupt warning is shrill, coming quickly after a fit of laughter.
A child of leaf-bare, the snow was freezing was all Larkkit ever knew- which made the young kit an excellent ice skater, at least when there was enough ice laying around camp.
Today, she had been lucky, carefully watching the weather. It had snowed the other day, but yesterday the sun had been shining, which meant that during the night, a sheet of ice or two was bound to happen.
To Larkkit’s joy, she has awoken to a perfect ice patch that had pooled along the perimeter of camp, giving her a perfect trail.
With no hesitation, she had pounced on the opportunity, now about halfway along, slipping and sliding her way down the walls length with her body crouched for optimal speed- that is until a warrior obliviously moved in her way, and she was about two seconds from running into them.
Unfortunately, they didn’t seem to be able to hear the warning Larkkit had so generously given them, and so the child was forced to drop to her belly, lazily sliding under the unsuspecting warrior with a squeal of delight, making a point to stick her tongue out at them while she’d slide away. The ice was painful on her underbelly, but the kit didn’t seem to mind as she rolled back to her paws, shakily pushing her weight off of her back leg to continue her sliding.

I won't apologize for being who I am
The boy comes back into camp with a patrol just in time to see Larkkit sliding beneath some wayward warrior whilst sticking her tongue out at them. There is a miniscule shake of his head as he momentarily watches the girl's antics. Briefly he reminisces on all the shenanigans he would get into with his sister back in skyclan and it pulls a bittersweet smile onto his maw. "Keep having fun for me..." He thinks to himself before focusing upon the present. Carefully Coyotepaw steps out of Lark's way as she continues to slide down her path. "Getting pretty good at that I see." He murmurs casually in the kitten's direction, although on the inside he is cringing. There was no way he would make a hobby out of sliding upon ice, he already hated how cold it made his paws feel.

Much like his sister, Sparkkit had known nothing but the cold. Unlike her, however...it did not suit him. Though the tomkit's fur had grown to a small floof, wild along his neck and spine (and giving further credence to his name), he's as wild as a hot greenleaf day. The cold just seems to mute him some. Or challenge him– some days, it's as if he has to prove himself to the world. I burn so bright this chill can't stop me, he seems to shout. Today is most certainly one of those days. Though he doesn't slide alongside his sister down the ice track, he sprints, chasing her and its edge like there's some monster nipping at his heels. If it weren't for the wild grin on his face, others might have even thought as much.

The warrior moves as Lark slides beneath her, and only a few breaths later there comes her shadow. Sparkkit weaves between much larger paws, laughing like it was the grandest of jokes that they'd managed to trip up someone so much older. "Bet you can't stay on your paws if you take that turn super fast!" he challenges, still racing along after her.

↞ RACE THE WINDS
Leafbare is an unfortunate time of year to be born, but it warmed his heart to see the young kits taking it all in their stride. If anything it was a breath of fresh air amongst all the recent happenings and stress, something that Galeforce had been sorely craving. The young warrior came to stand beside Coyotepaw so he could watch Larkkit and Sparkkit, and he aimed to nudge the apprentice's shoulder. "Hey, fancy giving it a go? I reckon lil' Larkkit could teach us a thing or two. Might be fun." A soft chuckle escaped him as he shifted his gaze back to the kit, keen to see if she would take up her sibling's challenge.

When Coyotepaw takes the initiative to step out of her way, Larkkit returns it when a quick but grateful nod of her head when she slides by, her smile ecstatic when she calls back, ”I know right?!”
A racing puff ball of black and tawny follow her, tripping up the already grumpy warrior with a squeal of approval from his sister.
She pushes off her back paw again to gain more speed just as Sparkkits dare catches her ears. His tiny, thundering paw steps slightly shaking the ice under her paws, and she does a double take between her littermate and the sharp turn coming up ahead. ”Oh yeah? Watch this!” She challenges back, lowering herself to a hovering stance, and kicking out her back leg once more- though this time the power behind it is sharp and deliberate. Brow bones furrow In determination as the corner is just about upon her- and then she throws her body weight to the side, aiming to flick her back paw upwards to send crystalline snow flying towards her brothers face as she veered to the side.
The actual turning maneuver proves successful, and the lilac kitten is able to stay on steady paws, but the path dips slightly, and she has gained more speed than she intended.
She cries out as she is sent practically flying towards a pile of old snow, pushed to the side to clear space in camp.
Luckily for her, the snow pile had yet to ice over, so as she crashed into it, it embraces her in an avalanche of tumbling snow rather than serving as a wall for Larkkit to run face-first into.
Disappearing for only a heartbeat, she digs herself out, her head resurfacing a tail length higher than where she had originally entered.
Snow is now freckled along her muzzle and behind her ears, but her smile is gleaming as her gaze locks with her brothers. ”Your turn!” She insisted before clamoring out of the snow, looking towards Galeforce and Coyotepaw- who were now a good distance away. ”You guys too!”

Yewberry watched the kits play with a smile as he lay loafed in the clearing where he had a good view of them. He watched Larkkit slide along the ice and under a warrior. He chuckled. At least she was having fun with all this cold.

"Be careful!" He called out, mostly to the kits but to anyone else who wanted to go slipping too.

He had never felt a happiness like this before. He was going to cherish it for the rest of his life.

He watched Larkkit pull off her stunt with wide eyes, worry rising. What if she hurt herself. Should he do something? When she disappeared into the snow, he held his breath. Oh no. Oh no no.

.............

He let his breath go when she popped out. Why was he worried? It's not like the snow was hard. He went back to smiling gently, heart attack averted.

( ) Watching the kittens play was such a bittersweet thing for the black smoked molly. It took her mind to the simpler times when her kits would play with such innocent naivety, how even the cold didn't seem to affect them as they tumbled and rolled after each other.

She offers a tight smile, the whole scene making her heart miss Wisteriapaw painfully before she heaves herself to her paws and silently walks over to sit beside Yewberry. "Participating are you?" The question is aimed at Galeforce and Yewberry with a warm blink at Coyotepaw, "I believe we will need a bigger snow pile if that's the case."

The tabby glances over at Galeforce after feeling a nudge press against his shoulder. There is a moment of thoughtfulness behind his gaze, contemplating whether or not he should. Eventually he decides against it, content to watch instead. Despite his fur being a little longer than most he still did not enjoy the burning sting of ice against his paws. "No, you guys go ahead." He finally adds, looking in the direction of Larkkit. "Yeah. They might need a larger pile of snow." He murmurs in consideration.
