border BACK TO LIFE ─‎ ⋆ TC TOUR

⋆˖⁺‧₊☽◯☾₊‧⁺˖⋆ "fourtrees is just that way. you'll see more of it when we hunt there," nightbird explains as she passes the stretch of sacred land turned shared hunting grounds. if starclan had something to say of flamestar and scorchstar's agreement, they have yet to show it. she felt the wind whip her fur more freely as the trees grew less dense down by the border with windclan, a chill running down her spine.

"here is our border with windclan. they're smaller than the cats of other clans. if you want your pride intact, don't challenge them to a race. they outpaced dogs on the way home from the mountains." her tone was less bitter than it had been at shadowclan's border. windclan seemed to be the only friend thunderclan had at the moment, they had never wronged her clanmates in the way other neighbors have. it was nice to have a moment of peace before twilightpaw was subjected to riverclan's insufferable ego for the first time. "they've been strong under scorchstar's leadership." truth was, they've been formidable ever since sootstar had been dealt with. but nightbird was more partial to the tortie leader after the journey and their willingness to work with flamestar.

tattered ears twitch as she catches the approach of a patrol, her head tilting in greeting. for a clan who slept without the cover of dens, they looked to have fared the blizzard better than thunderclan.

Twilightpaw ambles ever closer to her mother, watching as the other's tense shoulders loosen with the promise of fourtrees and the Clan just beyond them. Her personal lessons (done by way of eavesdropping on warriors and pestering apprentices about their lessons,) would tell her of an uneventful history between ThunderClan and WindClan. Some struggle that cats wouldn't bother with remembering, but as of this leafbare, the Clans are in good enough standing to one another.

Her mother relaxes a miniscule amount; Twilightpaw remains alert and watchful, even as her forearm begins to hurt.

Racing dogs in the mountains is not something Twilightpaw will ever admit to being alluring. Because, frankly put, it isn't. But the knowledge of just how quick WindClanners can be sorts itself into the folds of her mind with ease. She may not rival their speed, but she can certainly learn to con them in the very least.

Again, she is silent as a patrol stalks forward. This time, she eases back, taking the weight off of her foreleg.

It was a generous charity that WindClan had offered ThunderClan, but the skeptic could already see how imbalanced such an arrangement was. WindClan gained nothing by being kind whilst ThunderClan gained everything - elevating a clan to one's level did nothing but provide an extra threat to one's peace. Still, though he saw the oak-dwellers as frail and unstable, there was no denying that their presence was a sign from StarClan itself compared to interactions with their neighbours. With a renewed energy after his sickness, Sootspot appeared from out of the tall grasses, flicking a stray piece of soil from between his claws.

Eyes narrowed and widened as if adjusting to new light before eventually, details in the two shapes beginning to appear. He stared towards the three-legged apprentice, blinking fervently at the stump, nostrils flaring in memory of the last creature with such a vulnerability. 'I would not be surprised if he was in attendance for my nine-lives ceremony...' Sootspot's maw curled upwards as he finally met Twilightpaw's gaze. It was a fraction of time spent assessing the other before his smile broadened and his head tilted sweetly. "Ah, ThunderClan. Hello." Like staring at a piece of fresh-kill, his attention found Nightbird's sides, holding back a chuckle. "It appears our arrangement is treating you well. Two pieces of lost territory yet you are as plump as the rabbits we hunt. It is certainly a finer look than many carry in Leafbare."

The figure looming at the border is a familiar one—he's not seen Nightbird save for a passing glance at a Gathering or two since the Journey's end, but he doubts he'd forget the face of any such cat. This does little to lighten his spirits, though. Bunnypaw's absence at his side festers like a wound. More than once, Sedgepounce has turned at his shoulder, expecting to see her there, and whatever reassuring chime that'd been building in his chest just...falls away. He needs to get out, though. He can't stand another second of looming at the medicine den, feeling Cottonsprig's forlorn, sickly-sympathetic eyes on him.

He reaches the border just after Sootspot. Nightbird has two apprentices. Whether or not they're both hers, he isn't sure, but at least one of them shares her perpetually-frowning stare already. "...I hope the blizzard didn't hit you guys too hard," Sedgepounce adds, giving Nightbird a smile that's tired around the edges. He has even less patience than ususal for Sootspot's glib patronization, so he mostly goes ignored.

〕The maine-coon watches the Windclanners carefully, dichroic eyes surveying their short frames and lean builds. They outpaced dogs on the way home from the mountains. Nightbird informs, and Honeypaw's ears flick in silent understanding. Did their compact bodies make it easier to run long distances? Wouldn't longer legs be better for that?

Some warrior they don't know the name of speaks first, and then another shows up with words that seem more genuine than Sootspot's. The golden-furred apprentice frowns, studying his expression. "You seem to be doing just as well," They add with a tilt of their head. It was true — WindClan seemed to be doing just as well, if not better, than them.
