Badgerstripe's temper had been tested again and again lately. It seems she's been at her wits' end the past few days, the way she feels her anger swell up in her heart like an overflowing dam, threatening all those around her with an outburst that reminds her terribly of her old self. Skyclaw taking over, Howlingstar's death, the awful naming of warriors who deserved better - it's all too much, it seems. It must be really getting to her, she thinks.

Today, it's every little thing. It's too hot; the sun beats on her just the wrong way; Skyclaw and his cronies are too loud and too overbearing. It's about time for her morning meal with Sleekserpent, but the thought of food makes her stomach churn - perhaps a side effect of waking up on the wrong side of the nest, it seems.

As her friend approaches, Badgerstripe is already prepared with a well-timed turn of her nose. " I'm not hungry this morning, Sleekserpent, " she mumbles, resting her chin solemnly on her paws. But, rather than taking her words, he sets the morsel of prey down next to her and noses it towards her, insisting. A sweet gesture, if only it was a lie that he was seeing through. Rather, she feels sick at the sight of the prey. Or.. is it the sight of them?

" No, I'm serious. Thank you, though, " Badgerstripe says again, more sternly this time. But again, Sleekserpent insists - and there feels something feral about the way Badgerstripe's head snaps up and fixes them with a sharp glare as the bad mood that had just been simmering, now finally boils over.

Before she has the chance to even think, her mouth takes a direction of its own, separating from the ache in her heart. " I said, I'm not hungry! Get that out of my face! " Badgerstripe snaps, lashing out to swipe the piece of prey away with an outstretched blue paw. Her voice is raised far louder than intended, and just like when she had snipped at Vixenpaw just a few sunrises ago, she feels as if even the birdsong goes quiet, and every eye in the forest is burning into her. But this time, rather than apologizing, she turns her head back to thump her chin back on her paws, resuming her staring towards the camp's wall. Her frustration, in the mean time, simmers down just as quickly as it had bubbled up - replacing her harsh words with tears dotting her eyes.

By now, it's simply become a habit - kits and queens are to be fed first, of course, but his first catch of the day is always kept carefully separate from the fresh kill pile. If asked, Sleekserpent couldn't say why she felt the need to care for Badgerstirpe - the other molly isn't a bad warrior herself after all. But theres something heady about the action, leaving them content. They're just friends - nothing more... and yet-

Head snaps back as Badgerstripes yells, startled - he hadn't noticed that she didn't want the prey, hadn't seen her discomfort. Sleekserpent had been far more focused on offering it, because thats what they always did. And yet, instead of apologizing for pushing, fur bristles as she snaps back in return. " Stars! I was just trying to be nice - it's just prey! " they rasp, grumbling.

" Fine! Whatever! Starve yourself then - see if I care! " he snaps again, angrily swatting at the prey that she's tossed back to him, claws sinking uncaringly into the bird he'd been so proud to present her with.

❝ it's gonna hurt for a bit of time ❞

Lightflower winced at the sound of Badgerstripe's ire. Her friend was certainly going through a lot, to an extent she didn't understand. Though she knew Badg, and she knew it wasn't actually anger lacing her words. Whatever it was, she wanted to help. As Sleekserpent stomped off, she carefully stepped up. "Hey, Badg," she mewed quietly, "Can I join you?" She had time before she had to bring Squirrelpaw out for training. She could be a comforting presence at the very least.

”Nyaa, Sleekserpent has quite the attitude...” Snailberry would murmur as Sleekserpent and Badgerstripe snapped at each other. Her mint gaze flicks between the two of them as she plops nearby Badgerstripe, but leaves a tail length or two between them, allowing for her to relax without being annoyed by her presence. The warrior's plumed tail wraps loosely around her forepaws as she glances at Lightflower coming over and requesting if she could join. ”Lightflower would cheer Badgerstripe up easily, nya?” She inquires with a soft smile as she notes the tears welding up in the tortie's eyes. Was she just having a bad day and Sleekserpent pushing her buttons made her snap?

”Badgerstripe is too pretty to cry, nya!” Snailberry would respond with a grind and they hope their words cheer them up - even if just a little. It sucks having a bad day (not that Snailberry has many to base off), but she's seen how it affected the moods of her friends and clan-mates. They hum quietly as she shifts to her side and rests her chin on her forepaws, a silent yawn parting her jaws momentarily. It was too good of a day to be ruined by Sleekserpent, Badgerstripe! Fighting!
