camp BEGINNING OF THE END - moving dens

Being an apprentice was exciting, Gigglepaw had decided. It was full of new horizons and opportunities, ones that she couldn't wait to explore alongside her brothers and her mentor and the rest of her new peers. It would be weird getting to go out of camp, but it bolstered that sense of adventure in the girl - to her, she had free reign of ShadowClan's territory now, and that meant that she might meet cats from other Clans. She would get to go to Gatherings and talk with other-Clanners, and hear about their escapades as well. But before all of that came first the moving of her nest from the nursery to the apprentices' den.

With a hop in her step, Gigglepaw made her way towards the apprentices' den, a bundle of moss clenched in her jaws. There would be so much more space, she thought. More space, and new faces, old and new. Some of the kits that she had grown up with would be joining her, but there would also be apprentices that had been in the den much longer than she had. For a brief moment she wondered if there would be any tension over where she might make her nest, but positivity won out in the end - perhaps the older apprentices would even help her find a space for her new nest! Whether or not she'd still be able to sleep next to Branchpaw and Morelpaw was another story, but she was sure that no matter what, they would still have each other.

Since being snuffed by Smogstar, Stonepaw was only more determined to prove himself. He had never cared much for the nursery, so moving to the apprentice den was like a breath of fresh air. He, carrying his own bundle, shoved his way past Gigglepaw into the den. The lilac boy didn't even spare her a glance as he did so. He was too preoccupied in his planning. He'd of course have to make sure he got a good place in the den, how else would he get good rest to be the best?

Shadepaw had decided that sharing a den with her little siblings was going to be fun. They had never shared a den before- Shadepaw had been apprenticed young, even if the first few months had really just been glorified kithood, and she had never been like Snowypaw, nursery-visitor extraordinaire. Now she would sleep a few feet away from Gigglepaw, Branchpaw, and Morelpaw. Good mornings, goodnights, and check-ins with her younger siblings would be easier than ever.

She was busy cleaning out dry sprigs of moss from her own sleeping-spot when the light coming in from the entrance of the den was blotted out. She turned and grinned at the sight of Gigglepaw. Then Stonepaw shouldered his way past her. "Hey, careful. If you bump into other cats and don't say sorry, legend says you'll never bump into any prey." Shadepaw chirped good-naturedly, making up said legend on the spot. Maybe there was some truth to it, if they really tried to make it so. If Stonepaw made enemies by knocking into other cats, then perhaps he wouldn't be sent on as many hunting patrols, or something like that. He could decide whatever made sense to him, as long as he paid attention to where he was going.

Shadepaw straightened up, ducking slightly to avoid her tufted ears from brushing against brambles. "There's a free space over here, Gigglepaw," She pointed with a white-tipped paw to a spot not far from hers', kept close to Bonepaw and Bloodpaw's nests. It was good that the amount of apprentices graduating and coming in from the nursery was roughly the same- although there would be some shifting around, no one would be dying for space.

Bloodpaw was beyond excited to be joined by Giggle, Morel, and Branch, so much so that it had taken all the willpower in the world not to drag them all to the dens before they'd even had a chance to see their mentors. Her head shot up almost immediately as she saw the former standing in the entrance, not too dissimilar to a canine who had just seen their Twoleg come home. The toothy smile that grew upon her muzzle was short-lived as a lilac kitten shoved past her, her eyes widening in shock. "Hey, there's no need for that!" She stood by Shadepaw, casting Stonepaw a humourless look. "In other words, do it again and I'll bump into you so hard you'll lose your teeth." Bloodpaw only had two moons left in the apprentice's den, but in that time, she would protect her siblings as best she could. Shadepaw would do it with tales not too dissimilar to her mother's, Bloodpaw would do it by hitting things.

Even if said things happened to be apprentices barely even old enough to be in the den.

She let out a huff and an exhaling 'woo', shuffling on the spot to calm herself down from a near-altercation. The ruffled fur upon her neck began to flatten, her grin began to return, and within a few brief seconds, it was as if she had never threatened Stonepaw at all. It was water under the bridge unless the other tried to push her sister around again - then it'd be war. "Yeah Gigs, all our nests are over here!" She followed Shadepaw's paw to the spot where their nests remained, an empty space between all three of them where a certain black cat had once been. 'Feels a bit like I'm replacing you, dunnit? But you replaced us... maybe it ain't so serious.'

"All six of us together... Stars, we'll be unstoppable in here," she beamed, trying to push down any passive resentment for what could have been.

Gigglepaw, despite all her blinking, barely even metaphorically blinks when Stonepaw pushes past her. She doesn't even think to chastise the tom in any way until Shadepaw and Bloodpaw are jumping on him in her defense, and she lets out a small laugh and looks over to where Stonepaw has slunk off to.

"Hehe, that's okay! 'm sure he's just real excited to be an apprentice, just like me!" Gigglepaw chirped, turning so that her face was beaming up at her older siblings. She bounds over to the space where her siblings have saved her a spot, not even considering how lucky she was that she had a spot saved in the first place - for many other apprentices who didn't have siblings already in the apprentices' den, moving in might be a whole deal more complicated.

"I can't wait to go on patrols with you all! Oh, imagine a family patrol! That would be so fun!"

The foundation of a Clan's strength comes from its youngest, so Mirepurr only deems it sensible to take a look at the newest 'paws. Nurture to see growth, and all that. With five entries and four departures, there is decisive traffic in the apprentices' den — and Mirepurr's intuition telling them to do a check-up seems to come in handy, considering the bit of restlessness that comes from Stonepaw's behavior.

"Maybe we should put that into the warrior code," Mirepurr comments, nodding appreciatively at Shadepaw. They are glad for the level-headed way they deal with the matter at hand; as for Stonepaw, Mirepurr decides to leave it up to Smogstar. His teachings would surely sort out any tangles... or, maybe the new apprentice is just having an off day.

It is only Bloodpaw who reacts with an air of vague hostility; Mirepurr can't exactly blame her, not when they consider how close she is to warriorhood. Still... better nip that in the bud. "Manners are just as important as keeping your temper steady." Finally, they turn to Gigglepaw, light-hearted amusement glimmering in their gaze. "You've got quite a protector in Bloodpaw, don't you? If you want, I can ask Smogstar to let me assign a family patrol next time. I'm sure it would be fun!"

*+:。.。 It felt almost cruel that he'd be sharing a den with his baby siblings for less than a pawful of moons. He arrives just as Mirepurr suggests a family patrol, and quietly Bonepaw beams at the thought. With Needledrift finally freed from the nursery, she could possibly participate as well! It's been ages since he spent any time with his mothers...the young man smiles fondly at the thought, his whole family all together...
Well...almost whole.

His eyes linger for a moment on the abandoned nest Bloodpaw offers to their younger siblings, and Bonepaw has to bite his tongue to keep himself from protesting. She's not coming back he thinks, closing his eyes to tamp down the agony welling up from his chest. Snowypaw was gone, but that didn't mean the future couldn't still be bright.

Padding over, Bonepaw would brush against Gigglepaw, touching her ear with his nose, before pulling back and showing off the bouquet of feathers he'd gathered for his sibling's nests. "mmff foo" he meows through his mouthful, quite intelligent indeed.
