A smooth-talking, smug, and mischievous annoyance at best, and downright rude at worst, many cats may choose to avoid conversation with Wolfgrin. His silver tongue has a razor-sharp edge, and his eyes are almost too keen to bear despite his lazy, almost sleepy expression. However, this exterior melts right off in the presence of cats who are suffering, his gentle and fiercely protective interior revealing itself as a diamond in the rough.
Wolfgrin is a warrior of SkyClan. Known as Turner in his youth, he was born on a farm far from the forest territories, growing up playing with dogs as easily as his own littermates and learning to catch mice in the barn. Him and his siblings were separated and given to housefolk in neighboring cities and towns. But adventure and the promise of being part of something bigger than himself lured him from the safety of his housefolk's garden and into the grimy alleys of what Clan cats refer to as the Twolegplace.
Drawn into the orbit of a charismatic young cat called Micah, who promised shelter to the downtrodden, Turner learned to fight to protect their group, only for Micah to grow overconfident and ambitious and lead an attack on a neighboring group to steal their land. He tricked Turner into helping him slaughter them, and in his horror, Turner attacked him with the blood of defenseless cats still on his claws. He was mauled by Micah and a molly named Cal, and left for dead before some passing loners found him and brought him to SkyClan to be healed.
He met Flamefeather, whom he shadowed in preparation to join SkyClan, and eventually they became mates. Their happiness didn't last, as Flamefeather perished in a house fire rescuing trapped kittypets. Wolfgrin is left grieving and isolated from his Clanmates, convinced they'll never see him as anything other than Flamefeather's widow.

Wolfgrin is a tall, messy-furred tortoiseshell with keen orange eyes. The only flattering descriptor one might be able to claw up from the depths of their consciousness, when first beholding him, is "ruggedly handsome." He has a worn face, his flesh carved thin by weariness and pressed close to his sharp-edged structure of his skull, and a single off-kilter tooth that sticks out from behind his lips. The tattered mess of his left ear and the scar on his brow give him a strangely debonair affect. His eyes, deep orange in hue, are too sharp and keen. His fur is an incurable mess, sticking up in odd directions no matter how hard he tries to groom it, and cut through with scars. He walks with a slight limp in his right hind leg, exacerbated by cold weather.

Wolfgrin is homosexual and, while he doesn't identify as polyamorous, he's open to the idea. He is currently still grieving for his mate, Flamefeather, and not ready to move on.

- a smug annoying dirtbag on the surface but he's really actually very nice underneath all of that, he's grieving his mate so he's a little more distant than usual and questioning starclan somewhat, "why would they let such a kind cat die" etc etc, ummm he's very loyal to anyone who's broken past his abrasive exterior.
- he's a tenacious fighter, he'll only start fights if he's sufficiently provoked and he'll end them early if he thinks he's taught his opponent a lesson, otherwise he's more than happy to let them flee themselves.
- he's haunted by dreams of what he's convinced himself is his dead mate flamefeather's spirit, in reality it's just a facsimile of what it was like when it was alive. it died saving two kittypets from a house fire, and in his dreams it still burns, though it talks with him as if it isn't on fire. in his current state of grief, he needs the belief that it's flamefeather's spirit to get him through.

KITHOOD
- wolfgrin was born to a kittypet and a barn cat and named teena. he quickly realized he didn't enjoy living as a molly, but didn't yet know that he could live as a tom instead. the kittens were given away to other twolegs at two moons old and brought to live in the twolegplace near skyclan's territory.
- after living with their twolegs for several moons, while perched on the fence of their garden, teena met a couple of starving strays and brought out as much kibble for them as he could carry. the encounter stuck with him, and he wondered why twolegs wouldn't just take them in and feed them.
6-12 MOONS
- at six moons old, he'd grown bold enough to start venturing past the fence of their twolegs' property, meeting other kittypets in the neighborhood. he discovered that he could choose to identify as a tom instead of a molly, and with the help of some of his neighbors, he chose the name turner.
- at eight months old, he got lost deeper into the twolegplace and was rescued by a sweet older molly. she was thin and starving, so instead of returning to his twolegs, turner found her something to eat and stayed to try and make her final days more comfortable. but his scavenging got him in trouble with a local gang of strays, and they sent cats to rough him and his beneficiary up for stealing. the old molly was murdered, and but turner was was rescued by a big tom named prescott and a molly named cal.
his rescuers brought him to meet their own gang's charismatic young leader, micah, who was only a couple moons older than turner. many tired, hungry loners had rallied under his idealism, finding safety in numbers to protect them from violent groups of strays. he stayed with micah to rest and heal.
ADULTHOOD
- even as turner and micah grew together and became close, the constant hardship of stray life began to sour micah's idealism. turner started learning to fight as soon as he was healed so that he could protect micah's safe haven, becoming a fierce and tenacious attack dog of a cat never far from his master's heel. he was devoted to micah and the ideals he held, so much so that when prescott's ambitions to overthrow micah and turn their charges into a fighting force became known, he killed him without hesitation at micah's command.

a tall, messy-furred tortoiseshell with keen orange eyes. the only flattering descriptor one might be able to claw up from the depths of their consciousness, when first beholding wolfgrin, is "ruggedly handsome." he has a worn face, his flesh carved thin by weariness and pressed close to his sharp-edged structure of his skull, and a single off-kilter tooth that sticks out from behind his lips. the tattered mess of his left ear and the scar on his brow give him a strangely debonair affect. his eyes, deep orange in hue, are too sharp and keen. his fur is an incurable mess, sticking up in odd directions no matter how hard he tries to groom it, and cut through with scars. he walks with a slight limp in his right hind leg, exacerbated by cold weather. though tall, athletic, and disheveled, "brute" isn't a descriptor many would apply to him, unless they've seen him in a fight.

mischievous / debonair / witty / abrasive / ferocious / angry / meddlesome / moralistic / warm / caring / anxious / loyal. though he never really got to know his new clanmates besides flamefeather, and he's withdrawn even further out of grief, eventually the cats of skyclan may begin to see wolfgrin's personality start to shine. however, some may want to put it back. he's a smooth-talking, mischievous annoyance at best and downright rude at worst, but underneath this grimy armor hides a heart of gold.
he conceals a warm, almost paternal care and more than a little anxiety, and a frustrating tendency to try and solve other's problems for them or help them without really asking first. when his love and trust is gained, he exhibits a dog-like devotion to its holder, a devotion that's been misused before. he's a beast of war, and some have wanted to use him as a weapon. even though his experiences have left him wary of such manipulation, he's still susceptible to it.
wolfgrin smells like a dog and acts like a dog - it's no surprise that he fights like one as well. once he has his teeth in something, it's a tall order to get him to let go. he's ferocious, and in danger of letting his pain, fear and anger get the better of him in battle, causing him to see someone other than his opponent and lose control. micah, callie, even prescott, the first cat he ever killed, the cat whose death taught him how good it felt to rip flesh and taste blood when he's convinced he's repairing the world.
mannerisms: a slightly diagonal upward tilt of his head to look down at someone / a quiet laugh, more of an exhale than anything, while smirking and tilting his head down at a slight diagonal angle / wags his tail like a dog (this is a visibly different motion from lashing his tail in anger) / tips his head back and forth in confusion like a dog / more here -
