As sunrays broke through the verdure of the apprentices’ den, a small groan came from a large curled up apprentice. The hues of soft reds, orange, and yellow danced in the sunlight as the felidae stretched out onto her stomach and then to her paws in a nearly swift movement. Her paws outreached in front of her, her ribcage barely kissing the ground as she did. A soft yawn unfurled her lips as she struggled to wake up.

As she shifted from a frontal stretch to a hindquarter stretch, the feline dragged her back paws slightly and moved into a walk as she headed to the center of camp. The freshkill pile seemed rather full and many cats seemed to be sharing tongues before the day started. She grabbed a squirrel, her favorite. Maplepaw’s olive oculars danced as she looked around for a companion of sorts to share the prey with.

The cats around her seemed like strangers. She had barely spoken a word to any of them and now she struggled to speak. Her heart found its way into her throat, her ears drumming with the sound. The fluffy fawn hued feline sighed and padded towards a rock near the apprentices’ den. Climbing on top, the solidly-build feline laid down and placed the squirrel on her paws.

“Maybe I should have grabbed a vole,” she thought aloud, feeling guilty for taking such a big piece of prey. Her feathery tail curled behind her as her ears pinned. “Should I put it back…No. That would be unsanitary…”

She really had not thought this through. Her gaze seemed defeated as she took her first bite of the creature. The feline chewed gently as she looked around, the guilt pulling at her heart.

The colder it got, the less and less anyone could afford to be picky about their food. Thankfully, Leafbare hasn't reared it's ugly head yet. Blessed with a thick coat as she were, it wasn't too difficult to stay warm despite any brisk winds. In the early mornings, she'd like to use a dawn patrol to get her blood pumping, and at night, she's thankful for having no shortage of clanmates to lowkey cuddle up on (Or at least, she thinks she's lowkey about it. If anyone told her any differently, it'd totally shatter her ego), but things weren't so terrible... not yet anyways. At least with Sunningrocks decidedly theres, they should struggle just that little bit less.

She'll eat anything, really. An ear snagging onto Maplepaw's murmurings, Wolfwind would swing her head toward her, tail sweeping a wide birth. No clue why she was lookin' so guilty over a meal. " I'll finish anything ya won't, " she offers easily. The apprentice even eats guilty. Thoughts of sickness lingered, even if the cure had been brought. Yellowcough - laden folk hadn't been keen to food, had they? " Not hungry? " she asks.

The fawn caramel tabby looked to the lead warrior and felt even worse. With leaf-bare coming closer and closer, baring its fangs at each of them after the bought of yellowcough, Maplepaw felt queasy. Her curled ears couldn't go any lower as she looked up with pleading eyes. Her voice was escaping her. What could she say to excuse herself for the terrible choice? Her eyes darted like she had just been caught stealing prey from another clan. The felidae had to remind herself to breath.

Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath before opening them once more after the warrior spoke. "I just...I feel guilty that I took a large squirrel that could have fed some cat much more valuable than...well...me." When Wolfwind had said that she would finish anything she didn't, Maple seemed more agreeable. "I'd be happy to share with you. I bet you have had to do a lot of work and must be hungry. I was planning on sharing it with someone I knew...but it seems that I'm a bit of a stranger in the clan...I don't talk a lot."

Her tone was hushed for only Wolfwind to hear, a mouse could barely hear her. Maplepaw wasn't the most confident of cats and wore her heart on her shoulder. All she wanted was to be a friend to someone. Anyone. As she looked to the lead warrior, she hoped that the other would join her to eat the squirrel.

Wolfwind watches the apprentice with a considering gleam to her eyes. It kinda unnerves her, the way she seems to make Maplepaw feel worse. Had she come on to strong, or was that just what she carried with her now, as a lead warrior? Bright eyes blink patiently at her.

And then they crease with worry. It's a damn shame— when she'd been an apprentice, all she ever thought about was being the best warrior ever and making sure everyone else knew that. Damn the plague, and everything else. Disaster that had make poor apprentices feel that they should be unachievably " useful, " or somesuch. " Eh? " The concern in her flurry of blinks is genuine. " Hey now, you're not any less valuable than any other cat in this camp. Get those thoughts outta' your skull. " There's a slightly hard note to her voice— only cause it's that upsetting to know cats so young are thinkin' about this sorta thing.

Wolfwind strains her ears, getting past the soft notes in her voice. " We're all ThunderClan, aren't we? We all ought to know each other. Consider me a friend, kay? " She lets her grin stretch a little wider, for Maplepaw's sake. No matter how quiet anyone was, no ThunderClanner would ever really be alone. She settles beside the apprentice then and there, crossing a white paw over the other. Her offer still stood— but she'd only eat so long as she knows Maplepaw isn't starving herself on anyones behalf. The journeying cats had returned, the sickness were gradually becoming healthy again... So long as ThunderClan could help it, she didn't want anyone forgoing meals. " Let's change that right now, yeah? "

At the nearest cat she'd see, Wolfwind would give 'em a shout. " Hey! Come sit with us! " Her paw taps the ground nearby.

Several days had passed since her and the rest of the second group returned from the journey. With each passing day, the camp started to feel a little bit more like home. The lack of star visibility was not bothering her as much anymore, but she still felt trapped inside the warrior's den. Last night, she had been abruptly awaken by a nightmare, reliving the rockfall that had caused them to take shelter in the tunnels. She had tried to quietly leave the den, but she had accidentally stepped on Wolfwind's tail in the process. The other lead warrior hadn't said anything yet, but as she heard the other Molly shout towards her, she couldn't help but wonder if that was why she was being beckoned over.

The fiery red tabby carried a smaller squirrel in her jaws. A delicacy in her eyes...nothing was better than squirrel, especially not lizards or fish. "Maplepaw. Wolfwind." she greeted as she sat down. Their previous conversation hadn't been heard by her, so she cast a glance at the young apprentice. "How is your training going? Learn anything exciting lately?"
