ThunderClan was forever changed. Even now as the plague was chased from their forest, the horrors that had been the last moon and a half weighed heavily in his heart. Cats he had called friend killed. Howlingstar had been slain. He had been separated from his clan and attempted to be hunted down like a piece of fresh-kill, for what? A past he had rinsed his paws off moons ago?
The forest was stained with blood. He didn’t see it the same anymore, and any cat who wasn’t connected to a kittypet past? He didn’t know if he could trust them anymore.
There is business he must tend to before he acts. In the aftermath of it all, Bigfang finds @THISTLEPAW and brings the tom aside. ”My time here comes to an end.” He says gruffly, ignoring any trace of confusion or shock that washes upon the apprentice’s face. ”Before it does you must know something…. You deserve to know.”
A hefty sigh escapes his nostrils. ”Not long after I joined ThunderClan, I fell in love with a she-cat. We were… quite different in our ways, but we understood our past in a way most ThunderClan cats never would. We both knew what it was like to be… scorned for our blood.” His whiskers twitch uncomfortably but he presses on. ”But love comes with its trials, and not all of them can you conquer together. We separated but the evidence of the love we once shared for each other remained. She gave birth to a kit.” Bigfang unloads the information onto Thistlepaw so fast it’s unlikely he’s put together where this is going, yet.
”…I wasn’t there for him. I wasn’t there for her. I guess I thought it’d be for the best- what good would it do you to be raised with the clan knowing you had no ThunderClan blood? That you carried the blood of kittypets through and through?” Just like that he confesses his sins, his secret. But no weight is lifted off his shoulders, accountability sits heavy upon him.
For the first time in their conversation- no… for the first time ever, Bigfang looks into the burning amber eyes of Thistlepaw. He doesn’t look at him as though a stranger or just another ThunderClan apprentice, but a son. ”You are my son, Thistlepaw. And I am proud of you for all you’ve endured, for the tom you have grown into.”
