"I'll bet the biggest rabbit I can catch when I'm an apprentice that Doepath'll have three kittens." An even-toned bray of confidence declared. Berrykit was sitting outside the nursery with a few others, and he hopped to his paws, as if daring any of the others to accept his challenge. He and his siblings would be apprentices before Leafbare was over, and he knew that there was little chance at catching a big rabbit in this chilly weather, but that was what made the challenge fun. And he was sure that the greedier among those with him would take the bet, just for the chance at getting their paws on a rabbit in the first place. It helped that he didn't need much sustenance himself to feel content - he'd be fine with a mouse any day.
Berrykit had no idea how kits worked, in the sense that he didn't understand what determined how many would be born. He just knew that it was impossible - or at the very least, he thought it was impossible, unless medicine cats or parents could rig it in some way - to change how many there would be, which made it more of a fair bet. Berrykit was almost entirely sure that it was all up to StarClan, and from what mother and father had told him, StarClan wasn't interested in tipping the odds in one cat's favor over another with such a challenge as he was putting forth.
"C'mon. Don't tell me anybody's scared to take that risk." He challenged, a gleam in his eye. If not one of his denmates, then surely a wayward apprentice might be interested - Berrykit looked up from the kits he was gathered around and looked over to where the apprentices' den was, trying to catch the eye of any of them if they were out. Soon, he'd be in that den, and he was certain that apprentices were more willing to take risks than kits were. It would be some kind of heaven to finally get the chance to go out on dares that came with the freedom of age.
