*+:。.。 He remembers peeking out of the den, waiting desperately for his father. Gorseflower had tried to encourage Viperpaw to play with other kits, but Viperpaw refused. He wanted to ensure he had all his energy when Snakehiss visited, because today, surely his dad would want to play with him. He remembered waiting for a very, very long time. And he remembered, curiously enough, how exhausted he'd been by the end of it. Hadn't moved a single paw, and yet he was so tired his whole body trembled. He kept waiting the next day though.
He waited up until Snakehiss proved he was never coming back.

In a lot of ways, Viperpaw was extremely envious of the new bundles now growing up within Windclan's protective nursery walls. Although many of them were burdened with the tainted blood of the biggest Windclan villain ever AND a traitor -turned traitor again...the love their parents held for them was nice to see. It was good, though, seeing them raised in a happy, healthy nuclear little family. Even if their lives were fated to be difficult what with that aforementioned evil blood and all...but, that just meant Viperpaw would have to work as hard as a hero ought to if he wanted to ensure Sootstar's legacy nor Duskclan's evil wiles corrupted them!

"AS YOUR SAVIOR, IT'S MY SOLEM DUTY!" Viperpaw announces to the heavens, standing tall and proud before Silk-kit, chartreuse eyes aglow with determination. What had started as a routine nest clean-up suddenly became...well, this. With a flourish to his movements, Viperpaw would bow low to the ground - showing his utmost respect to the exalted before him. " I'll ensure you're always kept safe and happy! So just name whatever you need!" he purrs, stringy tail waving back and forth as he peeks up from his bow to see what his "princess" has to say. He couldn't tell you how this game had come to be, where it was going, or if he was fated to get into trouble for playing when he was meant to be doing chores...but if it made Silk-kit happy, then it was worth it!

It was his job to keep her safe from corruption and sadness! Hopefully, he was doing a good job.

He couldn't imagine why Snakehiss struggled with such a simple task.

She doesn't really know how this game started either, to be frank! One moment, she'd been crouched in the nursery stacking her treasures into neat little piles, and the next, she's outside, looking up at Viperpaw's grandiose announcement, her eyes wide before she breaks into a fit of giggles. The way he bows, tail swinging so dramatically, only adds to the silliness.

"Ooooh, a savior?!" She gasps with mock awe. She sits back on her haunches and clasps her tiny paws together as she tries to look as regal as possible, puffing out her chest and lifting her head high. "Well then, Sir Viperpaw, I declare you the bravest and most noble of all warriors!" She lowers her voice in an exaggerated whisper, as though telling a great secret. "And, of course, a very good friend." She beams as she watches him stand, determination still bright in his sage eyes. The she-kit can't help but feel a little flattered by his gesture. She taps her chin thoughtfully with a dainty paw, considering his offer.

"I might need...a royal crown!" She announces, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "And I think you should go on a quest to find the perfect shiny rock for it! It has to be sparkly and perfect, like a star!" She nods, satisfied with her idea, then pauses, as if struck by a brilliant thought. "Also, you have to fight off any lions or tigers you find on the way!" She beams at him, tail swishing with excitement as she remembers the stories of the Great Clans.

Then, she tilts her head and sticks a paw out, pretending to admire her claws. "Now leave me!" She commands with a purposely dramatic whip of her head. "A princess has very important responsibilities to tend to." Like looking really pretty. And making sure her kingdom looks very pretty. And eating tasty honey, maybe.

Rarely a stickler for chores, Sedgepounce certainly won't be the one to scold Viperpaw for abandoning his task. Nests can be built by anyone, anytime—these brief moments of joy, however, are much harder to come by. The smile knitted across his maw is undeniably fond as the moor runner approaches. Silk-kit seems delighted by Viperpaw's display, which is nice, and not at all bothered by his shouting, which is even better.

"Ahem." Sedgepounce declares his presence with an exaggerated harrumph, its misty cloud dissipating through his whiskers. "Princess Silk-kit. Thine mother hath informed me that the Princess has yet to eat her lunch." He fixes the ice-furred kitten a knowing, mischievous smile, and pushes a small mouse to her with his nose. "Here is the prey she hath procured for thee."

With the whole of the nursery now fed, Sedgepounce should probably go try and rekindle the dwindling freshkill pile. But for a moment, he lets himself indulge the weakness of lingering.

*+:。.。 Viperpaw's ivories shine with all the light of a reflecting sun as Silk-kit laughs. It's a wonderful sound. His tail is immediately sent into an amicable tornado, whisking back and forth as bravest and most noble ring in his ears. That's all he's ever wanted to be! Granted, his dreams won't be satisfied until it's Scorchstar who announces the truth to the whole of Windclan's agreeing applause, but this is close enough! But any amount of dissatisfaction is thrown right out the window when Silk-kit presents him with another new, and honestly rather wonderful, title.
A very good friend.

Brighter than the sun itself, Viperpaw is positively beaming. He raises his chin a little higher, puffs out his chest a little further, and grins with a newfound strength of will as his "princess" prepares her orders. A royal crown! OF COURSE!" he shouts, slapping a paw to his forehead in shock - how had he not considered this before!? With the order, Viperpaw starts dancing on his feet, impatient to get going, but she doles out two more requests - a shiny stone, and to vanquish any beasts in his way! He can do that! "I CAN DO THAT!" he echoes himself.

"But who will protect you while I'm gone, Princess?" he asks, pausing at the nursery entrance, dismayed to leave Silk-kit alone in her kingdom. Thankfully, Sedgepounce - an honorable knight in his own right - appears! Right on time! He sets to work proving himself with a funny elegant accent and treasure for little miss royal, and Viperpaw immediately bows in appreciation. "YOU HAVE MY THANKS, SIR SEDGEPOUNCE!" he cries, before rushing out of the nursery in search of Little Miss Royal's requests!

However - hark! - for when he finds a rock worthy enough in shine for his princess, he notices it's guarded by a foe!

Instantly forgetting that not everyone is aware of the game at play, Viperpaw shouts something along the lines of, "HONOR!!!!" and is upon his clanmate in an instant, aiming to bowl over the offending party, a tiger in his eyes, or maybe a dragon! to steal away their treasure!

Unfortunately, he doesn't consider maaaybe the clanmate didn't realize they were guarding anything. After all, it did kinda look like a very ordinary rock.

Oops!

With the loss of an eye, he has found hearing even more beneficial. No longer, did herbs obscure the scars that mangle his face, dragging viciously and only reminding him of his weakness. Of his horrid attempt to protect his clan. But he had tried, nonetheless. And he had survived, despite their attempt to make Windclan weaker.

The scruffy rosetted cat dragged a ruddy tongue over fur, trying to smooth down tufts of his chest fur remaining over thick scars that lacerated his neck. It.. wasn't working exactly as he wished, but nonetheless, he had attempted.

Milkthorns ears swiveled to loud Viperpaw backing his way out of the nursery, shouting something about 'sir Sedgepounce'. He craned his head sideways in confusion, before shrugging it off. It didn't partake to him, the games they played with the kits.

Something, well someone, screamed honor before him, and a blue eye shot up. There was barely enough time before the apprentice was upon him, bowling over him until he landed on his back. An unf escaped him, before quickly trying to launch the kid off of him with hind legs, as gently as he could. "What... the hell.. was that for?" He asked, his voice mixed with confusion. "Is this- a game? Oh uh-" he cleared his throat, before trying to fumble his thoughts on what he heard for a moment. And seeing the apprentice, (assuming that gaze was playful), he could only assume he was some sort of monster.

"ROARR!"

Hopefully it was what they wanted, he wasn't certain. But if Viperpaw was attacking him, he assumed it was something playful. And he didn't mind amusing the children. Viperpaw was a friendly, albeit loud, child. His throat hurt now, fighting his vocal chords to even yell, but alas. He didn't mind too much.

They worry about their brother sometimes.

Okay, maybe a lot.

It was not as if Viperpaw wasn't incapable of taking things seriously, but he does not take things seriously enough. He doesn't even appear to take himself seriously as he puts on a kit show for Silkkit and flings himself at Milkthorn—a warrior—like a brazen fool. Rowanpaw narrows their eyes as they watch these events unfold. What if Sootspot were to come along and scold his apprentice for partaking in child's play? Viperpaw was expected to impress Sootspot and prove him wrong, not encourage the idea that he was an immature youth who was not ready for warriorhood!

Ears flicking backward awkwardly, Rowanpaw hisses lowly, "Viperpaw, what are you—" Milkthorn lets out a beastly roar, seeming to play along. Viperpaw was lucky that the warrior was in a good mood, and that he hadn't pounced on Featherspine or—stars forbid—Scorchstar.

They watch from the background, periodically glancing around to catch a glimpse of blue-gray or black and red. Viperpaw was lucky to have her looking out for him...

The chaos unfolding before her is, simply put, delightful. Silk-kit's sapphire eyes sparkle with mischief as she watches Viperpaw rush off with all the gallantry of a storybook knight, tail streaming behind him. He is so dramatic, she thinks, and she adores it. She doesn't have long to bask in her self-appointed knight's departure, though, because Sedgepounce arrives, his formal tone drawing an excited gasp from the fluffy she-kit.

"My lunch!" She exclaims, the royal charade forgotten for just a moment as her dainty nose twitches at the scent of the mouse. She leans down to sniff it, paws clasped neatly in front of her like a proper lady. Hickoryfur must have sent the warrior over. "Mine mother doth spoil me!" She declares, her voice lilting with a playful mimicry of his tone. He earns a giggle for his theatrics, and Silk-kit takes a tiny bite before sitting back, satisfied with her "royal" meal. She offers the warrior a grateful beam, her tail wrapping primly over her small paws. "Sir Sedgepounce, you are most loyal. When I rule WindClan, I shall decree that all mice be as plump and tasty as this one!"

Her attention shifts momentarily as a distant roar cuts through the camp, her ears pricking in delight. She leans forward, eyes wide. "Oh my stars, Sir Sedgepounce, doth my knight face a ferocious beast even now?" She gasps dramatically, batting a paw at her chest as if she might faint. "A tiger, surely!" She doesn't wait for a response before leaping to her feet, her tiny figure flouncing with every step as she marches toward the battle. "I must see how my brave savior fares! My crown depends on it!" She pauses, glancing back over her shoulder at Sedgepounce with a gleaming smile. "You may accompany me, of course. A princess should never journey alone." Her tail flicks confidently in the air, and she bounces away on excited paws.

Viperpaw skitters away on his mission with only a mildly ear-piercing yowl. Off to probably scrounge up some pebble somewhere—or whatever else might be deemed by a kitten as crown-worthy. Sedgepounce spares a mild laugh, waving his tail in salute of the quickly retreating apprentice as Silk-kit thanks him (and Hickoryfur) for her meal.

As the charade flounces onward, and Sedgepounce contributes with a wise nod. "An excellent decree, Lady Silk-kit," he meows solemnly.

And then there's screaming, because why wouldn't there be, and Sedgepounce's attention snaps to the few foxlengths that Viperpaw managed to cross before he landed himself in some sort of trouble. Rowanpaw's dismayed expression sums it up pretty well. But, in seeing the warrior that got attacked, Sedge's own instinctive wince begins to smooth. Milkthorn's a good cat. He's got a sound head on his shoulders—though most importantly, he's got a penchant for entertaining the youths.

The hubbub naturally distracts Silk-kit too, who abandons her meal in favor of all the excitement. "Ah, of course," he responds with a slightly wry smile. Sedgepounce draws to his feet and pads after the imaginative kitten, watching almost-warily the scene unfolding between Viperpaw and Milkthorn. He has a weird feeling that he's gonna have to be the responsible one here.
