Things had been grim lately, and that was putting it lightly. She couldn't seem to shake the guilt of what she'd done, leaving her post the night the wolves invaded camp. She dreamt of her failure every night - or at least, the nights she'd actually been able to sleep - and it was starting to wear on her. She didn't know what she could do at this point to lessen the weight on her mind, or if she even deserved to, but she wanted to try. Howlingstar was disappointed in her, Nightbird was so disgusted by her actions that she literally wouldn't even acknowledge her presence anymore. Skyclaw was mad at her too... though she couldn't fully understand why, as he'd been the one she thought she could turn to, and it hurt. She wanted to try to prove herself to her clanmates again, to prove that they could still trust her and she would do anything to keep them safe. She just... needed to try.
She'd spent the majority of her sleepless nights patroling the territory alone (though she probably wasn't supposed to) and most of her days hunting from sunup to sundown. The wolves and the deer had done a good job scaring away most of the prey, and their freshkill pile seemed to always be too low. Especially now that they had so many queens and new kittens to care for. Hunting was one of the few things she'd always been good at, and had never failed at. Today had been a particularly good day - she managed to take down a plump little squirrel, as well as beautiful, vibrant blue jay. The latter had been particularly difficult to catch, but she hadn't given up on it. She already knew exactly what she was going to do with it.
It was a tad awkward, carrying back both a squirrel and a bird, but she managed well enough. As soon as she arrived back in camp, the lilac molly went straight to the nursery, dropping her prey just at its entrance before peaking her head in. "Um... hello everyone," she mused hesitantly, using a paw to push the squirrel inside to @Flamewhisker, who she spotted first. "I figured you probably hadn't eaten yet, so I brought you this." Sky blue eyes caught the stirrings of a few of the kittens, and some of the wariness of the past few days lifted a bit from her mind. She smiled softly to one of the kits that pounced at her paws. "I have something for you guys too, if you wanna see."
She waited for them to follow her back out of the den where she had dropped the blue jay, giving it a small nudge as she looked to the kits with a twinkle in her eye. "Its pretty, right? Do you guys each wanna take a feather?" She plucked a pristine cerulean plume from the bird as she spoke, holding it out as an offering to whichever kitten was most eager. "They can be lots of fun to play with, or you can use them to make your nests and your fur look pretty." Once the kits had all taken a feather or two, she planned on giving the actual blue jay to the queens to eat.
[ this is for the kittens & queens but its open to everyone! feel free to be the kitten she's talking to <3 ]
