thornmask has a chaotic personality, quick to seek life's benefits without consideration of whose feelings might get hurt. though they portray themselves as an open book (to the point where their clanmates think 'thorn' is the most fitting name for them), they often de-emphasise their feelings and are not honest about their intentions. for example, although they complained about having to change their name with a joke to the ripple colony, they did not mention that it was because they had chosen the name deacon for themselves as a way to celebrate their new identity and did not feel comfortable with that being stripped away. their inability to be totally honest has led to friction within their clan, only exasperated by sour memories. the cliqueyness and rudeness displayed by riverclan in his formative moons in the clan due to their outsider status has made his negativity grow towards the societal structure of clans. they ask questions frequently, a last-ditch effort of trying to understand why clans work the ways that they do, but do so in a manner that may ignite ire. they do not care for how things are supposed to be done, they will simply do things in their own way.
though imaginative and quick to come up with solutions to their problems, thornmask's overconfidence leads them to not think things through, a flaw which resulted in the death of their sister and self-exile from their family. their inner world is rich, full of grief for their actions and finding strange poetry to many aspects of life that are otherwise morbid or unspeakable. it is this flowery inner monologue that leaves them open to heart-to-hearts about things like romance and loss, they've experienced both and know they were will experience both again and, when they are comfortable with someone, they feel vulnerable enough to reveal that side. they are romantic, almost codependent on partners, and it can be difficult to see if it is out of love or out of a need to prove themselves to that animal. when they are not comfortable with someone, it is painfully obvious, for that is when the jokes and banter emerge to get a rise out of others and amuse themselves.
