YOU ARE THE DAYLIGHT
YOU ARE THE DAYLIGHT
Sunflowerpaw hasn't been able to get the fight with ShadowClan out of their mind since it happened. Or, moreso one cat in the skirmish. Maggotpaw. It had been a betrayal, they thought, for the apprentice they'd unfortunately grown comfortable around to attack them first, to charge towards them with no hesitation in her powerful stride. And yet —
"Your opponent. Do you know why she went to such lengths to avoid hurting you?"
Wolfsong's words ring in their ears. It's true, they left the battle unscathed, not even a bruise marring their skin. Houndthistle half-blind, Soostar dead and returned right before their eyes. Maggotpaw's laughter, cruel and sharp with teeth blood-reddened as she looked upon the dead-but-not-dead leader. A smile on her face, a gleam in her eyes. "That was fun, we should do it again sometime." Disbelieving golden eyes were locked to her as soon as Sunflowerpaw stumbled to their feet, and... There was something almost mesmerizing in her glee, a keen and cruel vivacity to the normally cold apprentice. So why didn't she hurt them? Was it all just a game to her? The thought should be sickening, should be frightening to them.
And yet Sunflowerpaw has come again to the Thunderpath border.
It was easy enough to slip away. Wolfsong was back at camp practicing his herbs, and the warrior supposed to watch them wasn't, really. They've been darting off to the border whenever they can, just in case. And now, they catch a faint scent across the breeze, growing more and more familiar. Sunflowerpaw creeps onto the Thunderpath, nearly crossing the border in an act of boldness. They're not quite sure which side of it to wait on.
They waste no time on pretense, speaking flatly as they survey the marshes. "Come out." Their voice is flat, not betraying the excitement they feel at finally catching Maggotpaw alone again.
