AN EYE FOR AN EYE, A LEG FOR A LEG. A SHOT IN THE HEART DOESN'T MAKE IT UNBREAK

࿐ ࿔*:・゚"Quit dragging your paws," Beefang says not bothering to glance over her shoulder at her apprentice and her feathery tail sweeps behind her briefly, she had told Roepaw that they would start right away and she truly meant it. She isn't someone that doesn't keep to her word, hell, she had to almost drag the other out from the apprentice's den this morning just before the sun bled into the sky. The bicolored molly had slipped out from the comfort of her mate's pelt against her own to be here right now to show Roepaw the borders much like Smokestar had done for her when she had been much younger, she had been so enthusiatic about it. "Lift up your tail too." Another order barked to the vibrant furred tomcat that trailed behind her and for a mere heartbeat, she can recall the last time that she had uttered those words and it had been towards Cicadaflight though her voice had been a higher pitched squeak and it had been said of love from her heart... There is none of that reserved in that heart of hers for Roepaw. This isn't like the first time that Smokestar, Smokethroat at the time, had taken her out at the young age of three moons old and how she had toddled after him with a bounce in her step.

The memories cause her gaze to soften for a single second before she snapped her head around to fix her lone eye onto Roepaw and both of her ears angle forward, she motions to the scented border with a flick of her bottlebrush tail "This is Thunderclan's border." She pauses for a heartbeat only to nod in the direction of Sunningrocks making sure that her motions are subtle enough so that they aren't seen by the vermin that lived in the oak forest, "Those are Sunningrocks. They have belonged to us before Thunderclan took it from us but once the truce is over, it'll belong to Riverclan once more." Her voice low enough for Roepaw's ears alone and a soft huff leaves her maw, her shoulders roll slightly so that her muscles rippled underneath her curly coat. "I'll make sure that you are ready for that day to come and you'll be prepared to take out anyone that stands in your way. Understood?" Roepaw wouldn't be like her, not ever, at the age of four moons old and teaming up with her littermate to forge their bond further through spilled rogue blood. Despite how gruesome the memory is, it isn't one that she would ever wish to lose or replace.

Sunningrocks would belong to Riverclan soon enough and Beefang would make sure to bring Moonbeam there so they may bask together on the stones, for now, it's a mere daydream. Her tattered ear flicks to the side as she scents a nearby patrol and her single pupil begins to narrow with distaste though her expression remains the same, she glances to Roepaw as she speaks once more "You must always make sure to mark the border strongest here. Smell that? That's the scent of Thunderclanners, they're approaching. Remember it." She brushes against a few reeds with her feathery tail and shoots Roepaw a final glance "Straighten up and don't look like such a frightened minnow." A hushed hiss in his direction and her lone eye focuses on the approaching cats that resided within the forest, she swallows a growl knowing that she must be respectful seeing as Moonbeam is recieving training from their scruffy medicine cat.

He was tired and it was obvious. Not used to being woken up before the sun was properly in the sky for the first time he saw the way the sun bled through the clouds in the morning, turning the sky pink. He wanted to stop and see it, look up at how pretty the sky was for the first time in his life but instead he was promptly dragged out of camp, stomach rumbling from hunger and eyes still crusty from sleep - or rather the lack thereof. It had been difficult to sleep away from his mother for the first time in his life, difficult to not share a nest with his siblings, and though he knew they were close by and still sleeping in the same den as him the rust-hued apprentice still couldn't help the hollow feeling within him knowing that they were so close yet so far, knowing that his mother would be out in the territory more often now and that he wouldn't be able to run to her immediately if something were bothering him.

It was his thoughts weighing him down as they walked to their first border of the day, any excitement that the young feline could have had from the chance to be out here instead of camp quickly squashed by the way his mentor snapped orders. Without even stopping to make sure he was fine or simply that he was there she quickly moved to the ThunderClan border, told him to stop dragging his paws and to lift up his tail. Though he couldn't properly do the first with the speed at which she moved he tried his best to obey the second, plumed tail lifting up in faux pride, curling about two thirds up before the tip of his tail hung behind him. Ice eyes looked to the other as she finally stopped at the border, explaining where they were and that he needed to mark the border here the strongest.

When she asked if he understood that he would be able to take anyone out that stood in his way of the small stretch of land beyond the river he quickly nod. It didn't matter if he actually understood it or not - he didn't really care about it at the moment if he was being honest - he simply didn't want to get on Beefang's bad side... for if he wasn't on it now he was scared to see what it would be like if she was truly actually upset with him. "Y-yes." He'd quickly stammer out after for good measure, just to doubly make sure she knew he was listening and that he understood. Eyes would flick over the border when she mentioned the scent of ThunderClanners and the fact that there were some on the way now. He let his maw open to drink in their scent, trying to place it within his mind before shakily he began to try and follow what Beefang was doing while marking the border before trying his best to not look like a scared minnow, whatever that meant.

𓍊𓋼 As he pushes through the last of the undergrowth that separates the forest from the expanse of Sunningrocks, the cream tabby scents the air. RiverClanners carry with them a strong smell—a stench, even—and he can pick up on it now. Bicolored eyes drift across the water, up to a heavily scarred figure draped in contrasting ink and ice-white. He looks from the ferocious warrior down to her apprentice, and in their tabby-striped fur he sees only himself. A small wisp of a thing, a shadow, an echo of the past. A tiny, terrified apprentice, brand new and quaking beneath the pressure of greatness.

Falconheart blinks, and it’s just him again, standing on the hot rocks and staring at the opposing cats. Finally, he speaks up, trying to keep the nervous tremble out of his own voice. "Hello, RiverClan," he greets the other patrol, offering a friendly flicker of his tail. The blood spilled over these rocks will haunt him forever, probably, but it’s not his claws that had carved the divide between ThunderClan and RiverClan. He has no weight to bear, no blame in it all. He only benefits from it, and frowns when he thinks too deeply about it. "Is this your first time on patrol?" As mentor and apprentice, I mean, he doesn’t add. What would he know about what mentors and apprentices do?
