private CULT OF THE ZEALOUS [♱] MAGPIEPAW

Sharpshadow isn't all too sure when Magpiepaw went from a weird little trash monster to someone she would not hate taking advice from. The journey— that's what is was; when Magpiepaw had to be the only medicine cat amongst cats from all clans; when he had to care for cats without Starlingheart's watchful eye. When he'd seen sickness and death firsthand. He's changed. Sharpshadow has noticed. She finds that she notices a lot more, when it comes to the cats that she had journeyed alongside.

Of course, Sharpshadow has changed to, but no one cared enough to tell her they've noticed.

For some reason, she feels that she owes Magpiepaw that very observation. Sharpshadow catches them when the sky bleeds into dusk. He won't pretend that he knows them, but after over a moon with his only sense of home being Smogmaw's dreary gaze and Magpiepaw's bug eyes, they feel that they deserve to want to... or something. The warrior swallows sour - tasting bile. In the low light, shadowy pelts meld together. " Hey, " hopefully it doesn't sound as awkward as he thinks it does. A flicker of silver goes out toward the forest, and then settles on Magpiepaw. " ...You happy to be home? " Slippery, slipper slope. Sharpshadow is not sure how she would answer the very same question.

Had he grown bitter? Maybe somewhat, a touch here and there, but his love and dedication to learning and more importantly to Starlingheart had pulled him back here despite his unease and unwillingness to go back to how things were. He often daydreams of walks through large winding forests, of catching minnows in a cold pond, of Fernpaw (now Ferngill) calling his name with worried importance; they had been a clan all on its own merit. The lungwort was the curl of claws, trapping them back in the old ways of things and forcing them to forget - but Magpiepaw found he could not. He was restless, he wanted to roam once more. The dark patched feline next to him is alarmingly quiet while they stare out into the marshes, he can't remember who sat here first to lose themselves to thought but they made an oddly patterned shadow across the camp as they waited there. His name broke the silence and his ears flicked in acknowledgement but he did not turn his faze to meet the pale gay of the others.

"...not particularly, no." His blue-violet gaze locks onto Sharpshadow, newly named and aptly so, it had been chosen for her well and if any cat was deserving of carrying the name of their clan within their title it was him. It probably wouldn't matter to the warrior, but Magpiepaw approved.
"...are you glad to be back yourself? We could have named you on the mountains, I'm sure it would have meant more closer to StarClan." Smogmaw be damned, that tabby had kept Sharpshadow on what was essentially a kittypet leash for so long it was a wonder he'd not stayed back like Honeyjaw had.
"...Sharpshadow is a good name though. You wear it well."

He hadn't really expected that. Well— he kinda had, but most ShadowClanners seemed to have lying to themselves at the the top of their list of hobbies. The answer has her lip giving an upright twitch; not quite a smile. It's kind of refreshing to hear. At least, compared to all the snobby RiverClanners she had walked aside. The ones that had insisted they must return home and that it must be grand. Sharpshadow gives the Medicine Cat Apprentice this wondering look...

...are you glad to be back yourself?

Isn't that a question. It wasn't really one she'd been prepared to answer, stupidly. " Uh... " We could have named you on the mountains. The look remains. The metaphorical swing of his tail— methodical motion to the conversation ( or at least, the conversation he had played out in his own head ) slowed to something off - beat and irregular. It's a stupid metaphor; stupid analogy. His tail was perfectly stiff; his body perfectly still, including a raised spine, silver quills lifted along it. Nothing new.

That's what he'd wanted— and what he still wants, in a different way. A name. The promise of a name had pushed him forward; had made him loud. To think, he wouldn't have had to do any of that. He wouldn't have had to pull himself back here, half - alive.

" ...It wouldn't have meant anything. " he eventually says. ( As if this name meant anything. As if this name meant something. ) I'm sure it would have meant more closer to StarClan. He cares about what it meant to anyone but StarClan, really. But of course, she probably shouldn't tell them that. ...Sharpshadow is a good name though. You wear it well.

See this— how many cats had things to say to him, now that he had a name.

Of course, he still didn't know how to reply to things like that, so he doesn't. Sharpshadow's face is too straight to be genuine, really. " What kept you from leaving with him, then? "
