Long, wispy fur was a trait from his mother that Sneezepaw was usually grateful for. It made him feel pretty and elegant, and he loved the many ways he could decorate it. It was a blessing.. usually.

As a kitten, Sneezepaw was round and fluffy with a plumed tail and spikey head fur. It wouldn't have been easy to guess that as he grew, his fur would too, and it wouldn't quite stop. At the age of six moons, he had almost doubled his size in fur, with his tail growing thick and feathery and his paw-pads becoming sheltered by the fur between his toes and behind his heels. The worst of it accumulated on his head, resulting in a wispy fringe that fell over his orange eyes.

It was pretty and fun in concept, and made Sneezepaw unique - but by the stars, he couldn't see! Alongside tripping over his own tail every once in a while, one of Sneezepaw's many troubles was missing his depth perception and bumping into everything. Today was one of those such days.

With the sun beginning its rise in the sky, Sneezepaw had just woken up and made his way out of the apprentice's den, a little later than usual - most cats were already awake by that point. Groggily, he made his way over to the fresh-kill pile for breakfast, looking down at his paws as his usual way of seeing where he was going, when his movement abruptly halts in a collision with another figure. "Oof -" Sneezepaw huffs, stumbling back from the force. "S-sorry!"

The apprentice blows upwards towards the wispy fur that covered his face, clearing his eyes for only a moment to get a better glimpse of the figure in front of him before it fell back into place over his eyes. Frustrated, he repeats, "S-sorry, it's this.. s-stupid fur.."

anyone can be the cat he bumps into!

[ ༻❄༺ ] One thing about growing older and getting bigger was how awkward it was. Sure one grows into their limbs but there was still the adjustment needed to move better. Snowpaw knew they struggled with balance sometimes and they were grateful to live in the marsh instead of somewhere like Skyclan because he was certain cljmbing trees would be difficult for him.

Tired eyes focused on the enterance of the Apprentice den as he began shuffling to ready himself another day when Sneezepaw had ran into him. Noting the struggle the other seem to carry from all the fur that managed to find its way to cover over and make things hardly visible. With a gentle and amused smile that rarely craxked on the freckled pale tom he hummed before aiming to move a bit of fur out of the others eye. "Its okay, things happens" he said calmly before pausing.

Perhaps he should offer up to decorate his fur, maybe some flowers could help keep it from blinding the tom so he wasn't stumbling all over the place.. "If you want Sneezepaw, I can perhaps find some stuff to move the fur from your face. Maybe flowers, leaves?" he stated gently. It was odd to be this nice but Sneezepaw, compared to his siblings were tolerable and Snowpaw didn't mind being helpful if it was...wanted or needed.

Some cats can't seem to settle comfortably into their own body. They grow into a form that feels a size too small, or their fur - as illustrated by Sneezepaw - rebels against the hapless soul living inside. The deputy's is a large frame inhabited by an even larger presence, plodding to a clumsy beat in a world where everything used to be three pawsteps ahead. Though he's been in his physical prime since an eternity of moons ago, his broad form acts as though he's just one gust away from being blown over. As such, Smogmaw relates wholeheartedly to Sneezepaw, and it is a rarity to find common ground with anyone at all.

He begins moving in the collision's trajectory shortly after it happened; blinded by fur, the unkempt apprentice careened straight into the unsuspecting Snowpaw. Ought to be fortunate to have bumped into such a forgiving sort, as they're rather rare in the swamp. "Try honey," remarks the older tom, nearing on sluggish footfalls. "That'll work, no doubt about it." It'd hurt, too, and a pain to remove on top of that. So he forces a chuckle and passes it off as a joke. "Or, find a marsh pool and give your noggin a good dunk; pull out the right way, and all that fur should be out of your face."

Thankfully, the cat he bumps into is not one of ShadowClan's sharp-tongued. Sneezepaw never expected any kindness out of Snowpaw, considering the latter's quarrels with his brother, Singepaw, but he's relieved to know that he's not cursed to carry his littermate's bad reputation on his own shoulders.

As Snowpaw moves a paw forward to brush the fur out of Sneezepaw's eyes, he feels his ears burn and sheepishly averts his eyes. "Thanks," he mumbles in response to his forgiveness. Snowpaw offers some suggestions for his fur, and Sneezepaw's mouth curls up in a little smile. "Maybe. I.. don't know how well it would work, though." Flowers and leaves likely wouldn't hold up the weight of his head-fur, and cats weren't made with the thumbs needed to create something intricate enough to tie his hair back. He's long since come to accept that there isn't much he could do naturally. But, it was a nice thought.

Smogmaw is next to offer advice. Today was full of surprises, huh? Cats helpful and forgiving as these two were not a common occurrence in ShadowClan, though Sneezepaw wouldn't know any better - he'd long ago figured that he was one of the rare empathetic few, and happily carried the weight of it. "Honey," he echoes. Maybe Starlingheart had some to spare - but honey was thick and sticky, and Sneezepaw was skeptical that it would work well with fur. The last thing he wanted was attracting dirt and bugs to stick in his face.

Water sounded like a better alternative, and to this Sneezepaw nods his head. A temporary fix, something he'd have to keep up on, but it sounded better than walking around blind. "Thanks.. both of you." Sneezepaw blows his fur back again, keeping it out of his sight just long enough to show a smile with his eyes.

Shadepaw didn't witness Sneezepaw bumping into Snowpaw, but the apprentice's hasty apology made her turn her head. It wasn't hard to figure out what happened, just based on Sneezepaw's eye-covering fringe. Snowpaw and Smogmaw offered solutions, and Shadepaw squinted, considering them just as Sneezepaw did. Flowers and leaves would make Sneezepaw's fur prettier, no doubt about it, but really maybe holding it in place with sticks would be better. Honey seemed awfully messy, and water only a temporary solution. Maybe if Sneezepaw developed a habit of dunking his head into water, that would work.

She straightened up from the stretch she had been holding, a giggle bubbling out of her at the idea. "You could try just getting rid of it. Like, have someone chew the fur off." She clacked her teeth together, imitating the act of shearing fur. "It'll grow back, but it'd be shorter for a while!" Shadepaw punctuated the end of his sentence with a nod, and then rasped his tongue over his shoulder, suddenly grateful for the short, sleek fur there. Whether he actually got to be added to the "helpful" category was up to Sneezepaw. The long-furred apprentice would lose out on his elegant forelock if he took Shadepaw's idea, but maybe that was for the best.
