She couldn't deny it anymore, it was time to move to the nursery. Her pregnancy was showing now, and she wouldn't be much use to anyone this way.
The midday spring sun paired with a cool breeze was something she used to enjoy. She didn't seem to care anymore.
Did anything matter?
Her entire life has been a disaster. Deemed an unforgivable curse upon her family after her mother died during birth, her sister was the one to raise her.
Her aunt, who hated her more than anything. She and her mate put Spiderbloom through hell growing up. She could never do anything right in their eyes. Eventually their hatred and beatings became too much... And she killed them.
She remembers the day clearly.
A beautiful spring day, ruined by yelling and harsh words. She was a year old then, big enough to face them. It happened so quickly, like her body itself cried out for their demise. She felt no remorse as she tore their throats out and left them to bleed to death in agony.
Freedom was meant to feel good, after all.
Then she met Jasper later on.... He was different, then. His mind was still in one piece. Kind, strong, and he was the first cat to ever treat her with kindness and respect. She had fallen for him so quickly back then.
But Jasper changed when their family was killed by coyotes. He broke. He succumbed to the lunacy that had been gnawing at him since before they met. But he never hurt her. They kept each other steady, even as they drifted apart.
And now even Jasper was gone.
And she was alone.
At first, she didn't care that Juniperfrost didn't love her. She was just happy to feel it again. But now... She felt empty. Hollow and dead inside.
The walls she put up, the emotions she hid away, everything came crumbling down.
All she wanted to do was hide.
And fortunately she could do just that. She crept into the nursery without a word, curling up in the darkest corner.
She needed to pull herself together eventually.... She was going to have kits to raise soon.... They needed a mother. She's never raised kits on her own before.... And the anxiety was gnawing at her.
With her back turned to the entrance of the nursery, she let her tears fall freely. They fell like a dam had been broken and they wouldn't stop.
