The morning had started with vicious thunder claps and heavy down pours. Trapping most cats inside while the storm moved across the skies. By mid-day the sky had settled into a gloomy grey with scents of muck and rain heavy in the air. Thankfully, Thornkit had managed to sleep through the majority of it and only rising towards the end of it.
No kits were allowed outside the safety of the Nursery on days like these and so she had grown bored fast. Pelt prickling with irritation as concerned eyes observed her. Muddied paws absently played with a lodged rock as she tuned out the tussling behind her. The momentary static is interrupted by a familiar voice calling her name.
Once more a visitor lingered near the nursery. Causing her stomach to do summersaults at the prospect. Just go away! Shakily she scrambled from her musings and squeezed into a small crevice of the wall. A tiny compartment in which few could reach her. Inside she huddled back. Her ears flattened, tail wrapped tightly and eyes wide with uncertainty.
Since the disappearance of her littermates the she-kit had struggled to find her voice again. Unable to so much as entertain a question as the worry strangled her into silence. When her older siblings came around it was too much to bare. Knowing they had one another but she was left without any know-how.
Their father had only just returned and the days seemed to stretch on longer than ever before. Nests no longer felt cozy without them and stars appeared more distant and cold. Tears sprang into the corners of the soft youths eyes. Leave me alone...
