private DON'T SEE A WAY OUT | twitchbolt

For the third time, he successfully made it back through the entrance without rousing any sleeping bodies. The sun had begun to peek through the night sky, and Dogbite was ready for some much-needed rest. Pads slowly pressed to the earth as he maneuvered into the warriors' den.

Carefully slinking past multiple resting mounds of denmates, Dogbite caught the raised head of a cat just before he could make it to his nest. Freezing in place, his heart plummeted at the knowledge that someone might have seen him creeping back to bed. A million excuses jumped through his mind, but just as his maw opened to speak, it immediately snapped shut.

The awake individual, Twitchbolt, was conveniently turned away from him. Hopefully, unaware of his obvious sneaking. Dogbite knew he had only one way to pull this off. That was by playing it cool. If anything he could claim it to have been nature calling them to dirt place. Shame stuck to the Lead Warrior like wet sand as he slipped over to his nest. Mentally, he prepared himself to keep up appearances.

Settling inside his nest, he pointedly looked towards the cat in question, stirring up debris and muted crunches that would alert Twitchbolt to his whereabouts. "Hey, you okay?" They whispered in the gloom of their shared den. Hoping to appear as if they had only just awoken. The question was still a genuine one, but Dogbite knew deep down it had an added intent.

Luckily for Dogbite, Twitchbolt paid very little attention to being awoken in the night. It could be anything- his sensitivity to noise in the night was an ailment he'd been stung by since childhood. He'd only glanced over his shoulder, but- it was Dogbite, and the scruffy tom soon asked him a rather dreaded question- you okay?

If he could have stomped that question into the earth and let it decompose, Twitchbolt would have- it wormed beneath his skin like nothing else, especially recently. Bristles threatened to quill up along his back, but the brown-and-white tom reminded himself that this was Dogbite. Dogbite was a friend. A closer friend than most, even... and he wasn't Twitchpaw anymore, volatile and snappy, kicking out at anyone who showed him concern because of how deeply unfamiliar a thing it was.

"Fff-fine. Just... sleeping bad, as usual..." Twitchbolt swallowed, his voice hoarse and worn beneath he muffle of his whisper. Wide eyes looked Dogbite up and down. "You're... up late. Or- early, I s'pose. Are you alright?" The death of Applefrost had worn heavily on Dogbite in particular, he knew that... they had been close, from what he'd gathered. He hoped the grief wasn't weighing Dogbite down so far that they were missing sleep, but... it was entirely possible.
