twolegplace DOWN AN OCTAVE \ skyclan border patrol

Always on this border was Twitchbolt on edge, unconvinced that the Twoleg traps had truly disappeared. Perhaps they'd just gotten a little more advanved- hidden them better, built them now-undetectable. And- and, with a rowdy apprentice, he was forced to split his attention, back a twisting thistle-nest. Couldn't keep as much of an eye on Doompaw as he wanted to, but couldn't look as thoroughly as he'd like for any traps... oh, he hoped Greeneyes and Sweetybee were thinking, too. They probably were. He trusted them.

Wide eyes glanced back to his fellow warriors, offering them a fleeting smile. "Just, uh- keep your wits about you... he murmured, sounding a little feebler than he might have liked. They probably noticed, thought he was- was weak; he seized a little at the thought, embarrassment prickling across his skin. Oh, it was noticeable, wasn't it? This place... this border...

His memories of this border are a little different than Twitchbolt's. Days as an apprentice pad the blow of cage-ridden scenes. A family walk through the area; sneaking out of camp with Honeysplash. Happy memories, at first, until sorrow's grasp reminds him of those no longer present to share those memories with.

Until he remembers the clank of cages, a glinting shine that might've fooled him too, if he hadn't learned from the sight of twolegs carrying his clanmates away in gleaming traps. Loss started there - shifted the course so that he would lose his mother, his brother, his friend, and then some.

Would they all still be here, he wonders, if the twolegs never interfered?

He doesn't realize that his own fur is standing on edge until he meets Twitchbolt's wide gaze, sees the change in the lead warrior's demeanor - a tremble unlike the ones that tend to shake the brown and white tom. His friend had witnessed the cages for himself, had seen the horrors of the shelter with hazel-flecked eyes. Twitchbolt had almost been lost to the twoleg traps as well, another fallen clanmate for Greeneyes to mourn.

The warrior musters up a smile of his own in trade with the patrol leader's, a nod of his head at softened orders. "Of course!" he chirps, maybe a little too enthusiastically, before double-checking that Falconpaw is still nearby - still close enough to keep within his line of sight.

"You see anything strange, you tell one of us, amigo. Don't go toward anything weird-looking, okay?" he tells his apprentice, hoping he won't have to remind Falconpaw again. He can't afford to lose another clanmate right now; can't afford to watch twolegs take away his apprentice too.

The nervous energy his mentor and the lead had was rubbing off on him. Well, just a little bit. He didn't understand why, no, all he could fathom was that something bad had happened here, at some point. Falconpaw rumbled softly, stepping up next to Greeneyes and brushing his body against the warrior in a sign of comfort. His sisters could bite him for it later- right now is what mattered. His ears twitched, blue eyes shifting up towards Greeneyes before he nodded.

"Okay. I can do that." Falconpaw murmured. He stepped back into rhythm, his body brushing up against some grass to mark the border as he was shown before. After all, that was what they were here for.
