private DRAGGED ALL THE WAY \ search patrol 2

Urgency drives Iciclefang's white-toed paws across the soggy, flooded-over banks of the riverlands. Bright blue eyes scan the debris drifting toward land, scanning for familiar pelt colors, whiskered faces, dangling limbs. They have plenty of ground to cover — her littermate's patrol had set out for the southward edge of the Sunningrocks and down toward SkyClan's border. Her own moves quickly past the gorge, the falls, and the flooded-over Twoleg Bridge, seeing nothing... but maybe we've just not gone far enough. Maybe there's still time...

After all, for any of those warriors still living, their chest would ache; their lungs would feel solid, full of riverwater, their pelts thick and hard to maneuver in. They may be afraid of catching cold; perhaps another Clan had found them and taken them in, taken pity on them, though Iciclefang does not exactly want to count on the mercies of enemy warrior Clans.

Her whiskers straighten. There's something moving ahead of them, just on the shore. "There — do you see that? Is that..." She lifts her tail, raising her voice to be heard over the roar of the river: "Hey! It's us — Iciclefang! We've come to bring you home!"

Miraculously, the ThunderClan patrol had not kept them both captive. Eveningpaw thinks that's fair; even if two RiverClan cats in their camp would have meant some sort of power over Lichenstar in that weird, politic-game Clans always play with one another, it also would have meant more mouths to feed... provided they did not want to copy Skyclaw's example and let ribs cruelly show. A pang of guilt had pricked her when Squirrelpaw's further attempts at accompanying them had been shot down — walking side-by-side with a new friend would have been awesome, but time had been, and still is, of the essence.

Eveningpaw cannot waste more time, lest her family falls into panic.

The territory is nearly unrecognizable in this state. Eveningpaw thinks it's more like the marshes on the north-eastern side, rather than her beloved wetland... it is alarmingly watery now, which would not be an issue, if it weren't for Valesight's company. She takes particular care to keep to the shallowest parts just to save him the trouble, but it is difficult to find stable land amongst the flood.

Eveningpaw hears Iciclefang first; swivels her head and gasps when she spots the familiar oranges and blacks. They've been saved.

"We're here!" Eveningpaw jumps up and down and uses her voice for something useful this time. Her pelt would easily blend in with the backdrop of water now otherwise. "Valesight and me, we are okay!"

She regards Valesight with something akin to pity, though she makes sure not to show that too much... it is a mere frown that she sets him with. "Uh... any ideas on how we should get across all this? I don't think we will get lucky again with driftwood.."

He'd been a fool to assume the bridge might still be in tact enough to cross it.... Pacing anxiously back to Eveningpaw's side as the two struggled to figure out their newfound dilemma. I should've learned to swim, he thinks desperately, looking back towards the tree line waiting for the ThunderClanners to grow impatient and rush at them with claws outstretched. The apprentice at his side says something about driftwood and his stare finds her again, panicked as the fur along his spine stands on end. He hadn't even noticed the familiar pelts of his clan-mates across the river, staring out across the border looking for them.

"StarClan help me," he mumbles, wading towards the shallows with his jaw set in miserable determination. With so many on that patrol... they could help keep him afloat right...? They'd swim over and as long as he tried to keep his head above water, they wouldn't let him drown.

"H-Hey! If I... If I jump, you'll come catch me, right?!" Just a last bid for reassurance before subjecting himself to intentional torture. (Already the water around his ankles feels suffocating...)

Foxtail's paws lightly tremble as he pads after Icicilefang, his olive green eyes desperately scanning for any signs of life. It's quite terrifying, isn't it? How dangerous water can truly be— it moved so fast into camp; there was no way anyone could've been prepared for that flash flood. He considers himself lucky that he managed to hold his ground in the rough currents, and his heart aches with worry for his clanmates that were overtaken by the flood waters.

They move quickly past the gorge, the falls, and the flooded-over towleg bridge. Please StarClan.... Let us find our missing clanmates, He silently prays to their ancestors as they continue to move along, his ears pinned back to his skull. He can only hope that they'll find someone alive, but they also have to be prepared to find some bodies.... floating in the flooded water. Water is a silent killer, and the young lead warrior knows that far too well. He still remembers the day like it was yesterday.... falling into the ice cold water as Foxpaw. Everything was silent; there was no violent trashing around, and there were no screams for help. ....He just slipped underneath the water, and if it weren't for Featherpaw's keen eye... he'd be among the stars right now.

His ears prick back up as Icicilefang's voice reaches his ears, and he quickly looks in the direction of her gaze. Foxtail lets out a gasp, as his olive green eyes catch the subtle movement. "Y-Yes!" The young tom quickly confirms, "I s-see them t-too!" Icicilefang projects her voice over the roaring river, and the tom's heart swells with relief when the cats on the other side respond back. Eveningpaw's voice projects back to them, he watches her jump up and down, as Valesight pads up alongside her.

Oh StarClan, how are they supposed to get them across? His ears twitch at Valesight's voice roars over the river, and the young lead warrior quickly cries out, "We'll s-swim over to you! ...Right, Icicilefang?" His gaze whips over to the more experienced lead warrior. The last thing the warrior on the other side should do is make a jump for it... Could he even make it?
