the blizzard roars loudly overhead. the days pull together into a blinding mass— bloomfur huddles in the warrior's den most days. she watches her clanmates hobble out into the snow, and return mostly empty pawed. she'll… try. she keeps her paws busy by patting down the den walls, 'reinforcing' the walls she heard someone call it. the woman isn't very good at it, but she'll do the task if it means she doesn't get lost in the snow.

while she works on this task, mashing materials together, a crack echoes in the sky. bloomfur's ears twitch, and when she raises her head, a piece of the sky falls. a fragile, but sturdy branch falls, landing uncomfortably loud in the middle of camp. bloomfur yells, her heart thumping against her chest. the snow can do that? "the sky is falling!" she exclaims, eyes scanning across camp to see if anyone got hurt.

early frost means the branches are heavy from the added weight of snow + leaves! look out!

Any child is sure to find it alarming when the sky itself comes crashing down, especially when someone far older than her decrees the very same thing in a loud shriek. Her ears fold back, plastered against her head as if it could retroactively dull the large, big, scary, huge noise after it had already happened. She huddles against the edge of the nursery, nose peeking out into the cold (only because her parents told her repeatedly it's too cold to go outside) to stare in horrified wonder.

Is that why they'd told her to stay inside? It wasn't actually much colder than it had been but the real threat was the clouds would come down so heavy and big and scary it could crush her?! Alarm grows in her chest, rising to such a crescendo that it grows overwhelming, prickling at the corners of her eyes, bubbling up in her throat... until all Morningkit can think to do about the situation is cry.

She blubbers a loud wail, a terrified sobbing, but entirely unwilling to get up and scurry away from the situation that disturbs her so much. I don't want the sky to fall on me! And the simple fact that it could is a foundational betrayal she may never recover from!

The sudden crack! makes Cherryblossom nearly hit the ceiling of the warriors' den. Wide eyes jerk sharply towards the entrance, ears pressed against her skull. The sight of the fallen branch, jagged and stark against the snow, gently unearths a memory from her deeply-buried stores. Another set of grey skies, another chorus of winds, marked as the past only by the heat of that day.

Her composure, rapidly reassembling, is dented by a furtive glance to the nursery and the visible sag of relief when she finds nothing amiss there. Voices bloom all around camp, the blanket of conversation punctured by a few shrieks and yelps, but no screams.

The calico smooths her back out with a few strokes of the tongue, then strides out to where Bloomfur blinks around. Near the holly, almost hidden in its shadow, one of Owlheart's kits begins to cry. Cherryblossom gives the dainty warrior an unimpressed look. "Did you know that branches come from trees?" she snipes. Still, her gaze strays upwards. Maybe it's the deputy lingering in her, but she wonders if it's worth it to send warriors to clear those frailer branches before they fall on someone else.

With his muzzle tucked against his chest, dainty paws curled underneath him as he silently snoozed away in his nest. His plumed tail curled protectively around the mismatched forms of his kits. The blizzard roars over Skyclan's camp, and the chill sweeping near the entrance of the nursery, makes him shiver. It was a nice time to cuddle up to his kits and keep them warm enough with his body heat.

The sudden crack makes Oddgleam's neck fur bristle on end, eyelids fluttering open as he jerks his head upwards towards the entrance of the nursery. Wh-? Large mismatched ears flatten against his pale skull, as he splits his maw open flashing pearly fangs. He carefully, slowly raising from his plush nest, with a huff escaping him. The pale patched feline's ear twitched and swiveled at the growing commotion coming from outside the nursery, it... piqued his interest. Voices bloom across the powered camp, conversations punctured with a few startled shrieks and yelps. Copper's eyes slid to his kit, which had toddled to the entrance of the nursery. Little Morningkit was staring out of the gloom of protection.

Then the crying happened.

Oh dear. Oddgleam quickly slithered to his distressed daughter, standing over the tortoiseshell. His feathery tail curls around his little treasure, his head bent down to nudge his daughter with a velvety, soft purr escaping him. "I'm here, I'm here... No need to be distressed my little dove." The young queen curls over his kit, as he lifts his striking gaze up at the product that startled half of the clan. There, it had laid across the camp — was a fallen branch, jagged and bare against the snow. Ugh. His muzzle wrinkled at the sight. How would they toss it out of camp?

[ ༻ 𓆩✧𓆪 ༺ ] The howling storm outside while witnessing many go in and out of the camp's wall covered in snow had worried Fawnkit, mostly in a sense of their safety that is. His bi-color gaze focused on the enterance of Skyclan's camp when all of a sudden a loud cracking sound as something falls and Bloomfur's call to alarm. This had startled not only him but it would seem many others as well.

Morningkit's wails could be heard and the tom's gaze flicked onto the younger kit, yet Oddgleam was there quickly to comfort the young kitten. Meanwhile Cherryblossom was aiming to lessen the chaos. Fawnkit let a soft nervous sigh out, wondering what would have happened if someone had been under all of that...

His stomach rolled at his own question while a frown furrows onto his lips, tail flicking slightly before making his approach to the fallen sky, aiming to poke it with his paw, weary that more could possibly fall at any moment, yet... perhaps the worse of it was over. This would mean more work for the warriors and apprentices alike though.

"They do?" It wasn't a real question that flew from the kit's lips, but a sharper one delivered with the same cadence of something innocent. Her wide eyes blink up at Cherryblossom, fur puffed up against the wind. Today was probably the last day Ursabounce would allow her and her siblings to be out, and she was determined to have some fun. Or, she was before someone decided to be mean to someone else. Uranuskit didn't really have any skin in this conflict but joined in without a second thought. She was to be a warrior! That meant standing up for others.
The sound of crying yanks her maw down. Oh no! The little babies! They must've been scared by the big branch! Maw twisting in thought, the little kit - actually not that little she was 4 moons now - searched for a way to help.
"The sky isn't falling! It's just branches!" She calls with the confidence of a warrior and the tone of a kit. Oh she hopes her voice would carry in this cold! She turns to Cherryblossom - the mean one. She knew this cat and somewhere in her tiny little body she found a spark of frustration towards the elder cat. She knew she shouldn't - older cats were to be respected she knew - but Cherryblossom was acting like one of her siblings! How would Ursabounce handle this?
"Help me push this, please." She mews at the older cat. That should do it! Just like Momma. She then moves to push the branch herself, not really... in a direction just in whatever way felt most helpful.

The crack of the falling branch sends a bolt of panic through Butterflytuft's chest. She flinches, her body pressing low to the ground instinctively as her eyes dart to the nursery. Morningkit's wail confirms what her racing heart feared - one of the kits is frightened. She pushes herself to her paws, her fur fluffed against the cold as she bounds toward the nursery entrance.

"Morningkit, it's alright, sweet one," She soothes, her voice soft as she joins Oddgleam in comforting the kit. She gives the younger queen a soft, reassuring look. You're doing great! "The sky isn't falling, I promise. It's just the snow making the branches heavy. That one just couldn't hold on any longer."

Butterflytuft glances back Oddgleam before her attention shifts to the camp at large. Warriors and kits alike are scattered, some alarmed, others trying to organize themselves. Her heart tugs at the sight of Fawnkit's nervous poking at the branch, and Uranuskit's determined efforts to push it. "Maybe we should give them a paw," The queen murmurs to Bloomfur after slipping from the den again, before stepping toward the fallen branch. "You're so brave, Uranuskit," She praises the kitten warmly. "But this is a big branch, and it might take all of us working together. Why don't you keep an eye out from the nursery to make sure no more branches fall while we move it? The younger kits will need someone to protect them." Secretly, she just wants the kits out of the open, terrified this won't be the first branch to break.

The tortoiseshell then positions herself on one side of the branch, ready to help the warriors shift it out of the way. As she braces her paws against the snow, she casts a glance at Cherryblossom, a silent question if she'll assist, too.

Saturnkit thinks they shouldn't have come to SkyClan today, but the boy follows his sister toward the scene, white toes reaching upward to grab hold of the branch.

" I'll help! " he tells Uranuskit, nudging at the obstruction with the full expectation that it would move under his force. When it doesn't, round, golden eyes blink in confusion, before Butterflytuft's words reach his ears. It's a big branch, the queen explains, which means it'll take more than just him and Uranuskit's efforts. " Can we still help? " he finds himself asking. What if they don't have enough warriors to push it? Would two kits be enough to equal one warrior?

She tasks Uranuskit with a different job: protecting the nursery. That hardly sounds easier than what pushing a branch does, but Saturnkit nods his head at the queen's words. " I'll help! " he repeats, though he hopes it doesn't mean stepping too close to icky, sniffly Morningkit again.
