ELECTRIC BLUE \ palefire

It was a talent of hers, to notice the glimmer of sadness in someone's eye. Palefire was a cat whose distant blue gaze she had noticed a film of melancholy within more than once. Through sleuthing... asking around to friends and listening into murmurs, she'd managed to learn what Palefire's favourite prey was. Or at least, she was ninety-percent certain. She would see a glimmer of blue in the trees that afternoon, clasp it between smiling jaws and fetch it home... home, and then to where Palefire was sitting.

"Hello. I hope I am not a bother," she hummed, voice sylphlike and curious. Gently, she placed the bluejay at the she-cat's paws, and with the flutter of snowy eyelashes she greeted the unfamiliar warrior. Known by name alone... eventually, that would be the case for not a single Thunderclanner. "I wondered if you would like to share this meal with me?" A tilt of the head. Perhaps that was a little awkward... she tried to lighten the mood in a twinkling tone. "A little bird told me you liked these." Ah, see, a bird...!

Palefire might be mortified if she knew that her inner turmoil had become so obvious to her clanmates; though it might just be that Thundergleam was more perceptive than most. Or perhaps... perhaps none of the rest of her clanmates cared how she was feeling. She wouldn't blame them if that were the case; after all, everything that had happened with the wolves was her own fault. If she'd had more of a spine when it came to saying no to her friends, the clan would've likely had enough of a warning against the beasts' arrival to escape quietly. Sunfreckle would be alive. How was she supposed to be okay again after that?

A soft sigh fell from her lips as she settled upon the sunlit earth of the camp's clearing. The lilac molly pulled her tail around her front paws, raking her unsheathed claws through the tangles that forever plagued her silken fur. She'd just rasped her tongue over a particularly stubborn knot when suddenly the sun was blocked out, followed by a lyrical voice that she'd only ever heard in passing. Fiery blue eyes lifted to find a vaguely familiar alabaster face smiling down at her, laying a plump blue-jay at her paws.

"I wondered if you would like to share this meal with me?"

Initially, she was lost for words, her mouth slightly agape as she struggled to understand. In truth, she'd never spoken to Thundergleam before. The strange she-cat had arrived just after the chaos with the wolves, and she was too wrapped up in her own grief to pay attention to newcomers. Not to mention, the semi-prophetic warrior was a little... freaky. But here she stood, offering up her favorite food and a bit of company, without a hint of anger or wariness in her eyes. "I, Um..." Palefire swallowed heavily, turning the cerulean bird around nervously with a paw before she allowed herself to smile back. "That would be nice... Thank you."

She shifted over slightly to make room for Thundergleam, nudging the bird her way to give her the first bite. "These are my favorite actually. I used to like the feathers when I was younger. They make your fur look pretty." She plucked one of the feathers, hesitantly reaching over to tuck it into the ivory fur behind her ear quietly. She'd done the same for a few of the kittens when they'd first arrived, and something about sharing her childhood memories with others lifted her spirits a bit.

Admittedly, Palefire was never the best at making friends. Her tongue was sharp, and growing up without a family had left her with more prejudices than she'd care to admit. Thundergleam's rogue origins made her uncomfortable, though less so than with Fallowpaw and it's siblings. But her recent mistakes had forced her to face the fact that just because she was clanborn, didn't mean she was better than all the outsiders. Some of them, maybe; it was still impossible to forget how her father was killed at the claws of rogues. But Thundergleam seemed... good. She made her feel oddly at ease, and it was a nice change.

Reactions: THUNDERGLEAM

Palefire often had a firece, cold glint of blue fire in her eyes, a protective and frigid reticence- it brought light into Thundergleam's heart to see that gaze brighten, even for a moment, as she glanced down at the prey. Thank you, she murmured... earnestly, the ivory molly smiled back. "It is my pleasure," she murmured, and her voice was soft, hymnlike. There was no reservation in her tone, no nervousness... she minded not what might have happened in Palefire's past. All she knew was that she had been a closed off figure since Thundergleam had come here, and destined paws wished desperately to mend that, to sew together a harmed heart...

Graciously, Palefire offered her the first bite- Thundergleam blinked in thanks, but ensured to only take a small bite. Slowly, she chewed as she listened to Palefire's soft-voiced explanation of why she had endeared to bluejays.

A shock of blue was tucked within her fur, knitting nicely. Thundergleam felt a familiar warm swell of satisfaction, of honour, that someone had been so tender with her- had found something to admire within her, worth extending a paw toward. "Oh- thank you. I am very glad you think so..." She pushed the jay back toward Palefire. Curious eyes stayed set upon the molly, though- her voice was tentative as she coaxed a connection from her. "Would you share the feathers around often, in your youth?"

Palefire would admittedly be taken aback if she knew that Thundergleam was interested in nothing more than forming a genuine connection with her; in helping her to feel better. The rest of her clanmates rightfully felt she deserved to be miserable, and she felt that way herself. It never crossed her mind that there could be someone who thought differently, who wanted her to be happy again. Someone that didn’t blame her for the terrible things that had happened in the past. And even still, at seeing Thundergleam’s kind smile, she felt at peace for the first time in a long time. No hatred, no judgement, just companionship. She needed this.

A soft purr rumbled in her chest as Thundergleam passed the bird back to her, grateful for the feather she’d tucked behind her ear. It was a bold gesture, perhaps, but she was right; the bright blue of the feather stood out brilliantly in comparison to the molly’s pale ivory fur. Tentatively she took her first bite of the blue jay, savoring the decadent mouthful as she considered the warrior’s question. “Would you share the feathers around often, in your youth?”

Visions danced through her mind of playing with Bluestride when they were both impossibly small, weaving the blue feathers into his pelt. She didn’t have many pleasant memories of her kithood, as traumatic as it had been, but those were some of her favorite. “Yes, we did…. My brother and I. His fur is grey, and my eyes are blue, so we liked to think the feathers matched both of us. Like they… connected us,” She mused fondly, her gaze distant as she recalled her youth. “I also gave them to Moonwhisper and Roeflame’s kittens, more recently. They all loved it. In fact,” she laughed softly, “I vividly remember Meadowkit wanting to shove one up her sister’s nose.” Now that was one wild child, though Palefire was very fond of the girl.

Sharp blue eyes refocused onto Thundergleam suddenly, and she smiled apologetically as she realized she’d drifted away into her memories. “Sorry. I don’t… I don’t talk about these things much.” It was a disheartening admission, one she felt quite pathetic about saying out loud. But the truth was, it had been many moons now since she’d had any real friends she could trust enough to open herself up to. She’d lost almost all her closest companions after the wolf incident, largely because most of them had also been involved.

Palefire roughly shook out her fur to stabilize herself again, reaching out a paw to roll the bird back to Thundergleam. It felt almost as if their conversation moved with their shared prey. She struggled to find something less deep, less personal to ask, so the attention would move off of her. Anyways, um.. how’re you liking Thunderclan? It must’ve been hard to adjust to clan life.” She’d been born and raised in the clan, and couldn’t imagine what it was like leave everything you’d ever known behind to start something entirely new.
