border ELEPHANT IN THE DOCK ⚘ thunderclan dawn patrol

golden rays of morning part their curtains. it takes a few hobbling steps to readjust into the rhythm of walking through the terrain. she stretched her legs whenever she could, but most of this moon was spent lazing on her behind until the wounds healed. there is a lingering, dull ache in her shoulder, which will hopefully go away in due time… but she has her doubts.

vixencrown and falconheart are capable warriors, she knows this. leafhusk won’t babysit the duo when she has her own tasks to do, the sepia’s gaze sweeps over the orange toned apprentices at her heels once, twice. a while ago, she allowed antlerbreeze to shadow her lessons with addersnap. it was an impulsive decision, but she thought it made sense— they were the same age, and she didn’t think they would bicker. orangepaw and fadingpaw are on extremely different levels of training, and honestly, she can’t recall the last time orangepaw did anything.

"skyclan’s first leader proposed a new warrior code. which one was it?" she asks the apprentices with a small hum. her good shoulder rubs against some tree bark.

[ ༻ ☼ ༺ ] Fadingpaw followed close behind Leafhusk, trying to find confidence in each of her strides as Leafhusk does, her stubby tail twitching slightly as she kept her blue gaze trained onto the other. It was odd to think that Flamestar would entrust her training to the lead warrior, perhaps a part of her thinks she needed a closer eye on due to who her previous mentor was... yet the apprentice quickly shook that thought off as her attention focused onto the path ahead of them. Orange and firey hued leaves shun in the sun's rays which made the young molly smile softly at before her attention returned once more to her mentor.

A question on what the first code was, and Fadingpaw swore she had this memorize.... it was something about when apprentices were aged.. right? "Something with when a kit can be an apprentice, right? Uhm.... six moons..." she stated awkwardly. At least Skyclaw HAD taught her something, the warrior code. She was made to memorize it even if she didn't really want to pay much mind to what the code brought.

The silver-pelted tom was slightly ahead of his patrol as if renewed by the idea of being so close to 'enemy' territory. A part of him was grateful he'd been so hasty. Like a grey tiger, the tom weaved through shoulder-high foliage, ears twitching at the faint conversation on the other side of the borders. His attention settled upon the average-sized patrol, tail lashing behind him.

He sat wordlessly next to the borders, jaws clenched shut in protest of the usual cross-clan conversations. There was nothing he had to say to ThunderClan that wouldn't be spoken with all the danger and gravitas of a spitting volcano. Odd eyes observed their movements, enough emphasis given to the stares to suggest that he wanted them to know he was making sure they wouldn't trespass. As if he expected them to do without supervision.

Edenberry has learned to be wary of this border... the very first patrol they'd ever led had been here and it had dissolved into a pissing contest pretty instantly. Skyclaw... growling and snapping at Fireflyglow like he was a piece of prey to rip into. That had set a tone for the black and white warrior... one that demanded carefulness and a healthy amount of skepticism. Hadn't they also tried to steal prey? Was that a rumor they'd heard in the time spent catching them up on things they'd missed?

It seemed so strange... remembering Howlingstar, her kinder demeanor... to lead a clan so focused on stealing and swiping. They pause at the sight of Silversmoke hovering by the border with jaw set into a neutral, or perhaps mildly perturbed frown... He's not happy, they think, though his restraint is commendable.

They decide they ought not to waste their breath either then.. to prevent him from glowering at them instead or because of a petty grudge, it hardly matters. They find a particularly bushy looking fern to rub against, glancing towards the former lead warrior with a small murmur, "Everything good?" Maybe he looked frustrated because he noticed a scent they didn't...?

She was getting used to having Hollypaw by her side, despite Owlheart's distaste for ThunderClan she thought it might be a good way to figure out a dynamic between herself and her new apprentice by joining the patrol by the border. Though it seemed maybe this wouldn't be a standard visit to the border based on Silversmoke's demeanor. She shares a glance with Edenberry, hoping that the friendly and caring daylighter would be able to figure out why he's in such a state. While she herself was not very fond of their oak forest neighbours she usually tried to keep a friendly demeanor while in the presence of patrols and the like.

Maybe it wasn't because of ThunderClan? Maybe it was because there was an unspoken threat. Though she was curious why he wouldn't have raised the alarm if that was the case. So she could only assume that something has happened to upset him in such a way, no one else seems interested in pleasant small talk with the ThunderClan patrol right this second. As much as she dreaded the idea of being the first to greet them she wanted to set a good example to her apprentice, so with hesitance she speaks up.

"ThunderClan, is everything well?" She makes no comment on if Fadingpaw was correct in her answer or not. Curious to see how Leafhusk may reply, instead with a soft lash of her tail she gestures for Hollypaw to approach closer with her. She turns her attention to him, meowing in a low murmur "did Dogbite teach you much about ThunderClan?" It's a gentle nudge in the direction of trying to see how much knowledge the apprentice has been given before Owlheart picked up the rest of her training. She's unsure if bringing up his former mentor was a sore subject or not so she tries to avoid it as much as she can.

leafhusk isn’t worried about the flame-pointed apprentice. she is timid, awkward, fadingpaw falls in line with leafhusk’s stride like a kit copying it’s mother. if this child is a mastermind of tricks and deceiving, then she’s doing a hell of a job. the lead warrior listens to the answer carefully, a soft hum slipping through her maw to acknowledge she heard. close enough.

"correct. a kit must be six moons to become an apprentice." leafhusk finishes her apprentice’s unsure answer… looks like skyclaw did teach this girl something other than kittypets suck on crowfood. while she rubbed her good shoulder on some bark, she can feel multicolored eyes leering into the patrol. her head moves to spot the spotted tabby sitting a ways away, boring his eyes right into her; leafhusk has to bite the inside of her cheek to keep herself from making a comment. what paranoid behavior, she thinks, when skyclaw’s goons have been six feet under for a moon.

nonetheless, she leaves the mean-mugging warrior to converse with the monochrome form of edenberry. she greets owlheart with a flick of her ear, "yes… we’re just enjoying the early leaf-fall breeze." she marks another tree with her side, flicking her tail for her apprentices to hurry up. pleasant cross-clan interactions aren’t welcomed in this border. she appreciates owlheart trying to ease the tension, but it is fruitless.

Edenberry's voice caused his ears to twitch in surprise, his head swivelling in her direction but an emerald eye still splitting its attention between clanmate and enemy. A short distance away, Owlheart's voice perks up, drowning out the words the tom could only share with a SkyClanner, lest the tense patrol turn violent. "So many suffered and yet I can't shake the feeling that if it had been a true leader who gave the command and not a usurper, then everyone would've turned on their clanmates. The amount of times SkyClan has been insulted by Lead Warriors of ThunderClan for being full of 'kittypets' is..." He trailed off, catching Leafhusk staring at him as he murmured his concerns. He'd always advocated for following what the leader said, even the WindClanners should've followed Sootstar, yet, he could not help the budding feeling that his paws would've hesitated to do anything cruel in the moorland Queens name - and anything cruel in the hypothetical situation he had put forwards.

Claws unsheathed as he stood up, his tail lashing. "And... not all the ex-kittypet killers are dead. " Flamestar had said it herself upon an oak podium, that at least three were exiled, maybe more that hadn't been as threatening but shared the same sentiment. In a clan full of Twolegplace residents old and new, Silversmoke hoped his tale had been weaved enough to prompt some understanding of why he was wary to consider ThunderClan amicably. If it was not their aggression and trespassing that was a cause for concern, it was their views, capable of escalating enough to a point of murder, muted by a new leader but not removed if so many of those he'd seen debase the home he loved still walked among them.
