Trees crowded over the hollow, shadows cast over sand that would be otherwise baking. Antlerpaw knew- just like the stones at Sunning Rocks, just like the sand in the ravine, if it grew too warm it nearly burnt like fire. Antlerpaw, in that sense, was appreciative of the granules her paws spread over, cooled by the forests standing over the hollow. A soft breath left her as orange eyes returned to the target in front of her.
Thistlepaw had been around her for nearly seven moons now. First meeting when he was sick in the medicine den, when Antlerpaw was still healing from her injuries, when she only knew him by sound. Then, when he graduated from the medicine den into apprenticeship, and often being on patrols with one another- and most recently, the Gathering, harrowing as it was. Antlerpaw hadn't had a ton of conversation with him, but she didn't need to. He was, after all, an ever-present in her life.
Did she need to know him to spar? No, but it was good to know your opponent. Orange eyes shifted next to their mentors, who stood nearby- her own, Howlingstar. Strong, dependable. Well-rounded in battle (Antlerpaw had been sore here and there from her battle training,) and Raccoonstripe. She hadn't seen the temporary deputy in battle, but she knew that he wouldn't ascend to being temporary deputy, or lead that patrol against Skyclan's territory without a dependable set of skills on his side.
She looked back to Thistlepaw, trying to gauge her opponent based on that information. Her paws shifted, and head lowered. Defensive first, ears perked and eyes wide as she looked for any twitch of muscle that would indicate movement.
