FAHRENHEIT ☾ cooling off

the air was suffocatingly thick with afternoon heat. although the dense canopy offered shade, it did little to protect the hunting patrol from this sweltering weather. nightbird's pawsteps felt heavy on the way back to camp, her only catch being a young mouse did not help to make them lighter. but what was there to do. stay out longer whilst the fire that engulfed each breath grew hotter, and bring back a patrol of heat stroked warriors? it would serve the clan better to return now, rest until the sun dipped low.

camp was not far having passed the sandy hollow not long ago, yet the final stretch seemed daunting. a break would bid them all well. glancing around to familiarize with her surroundings amongst the haze, nightbird heard the soft lull of running water. the stream that ran through thunderclan's territory was not far, and despite the fact that she had yet to eat that day a sip of water sounded much more tantalizing than any prey.

quickly the patrol would reach it, pushed along by the promise of an oasis. once they did the molly would waste no time dipping her muzzle low to indulge in the crisp chill of the water. by no means was it as cold as the ice that froze over the land in leaf-bare, but for now it would do just fine. it was shallow at the bank, and as tempted as she was to dive under the surface nightbird settled for cooling her front paws as she drank.

there was a shadow next to her where another clanmate stood, she could practically feel the heat radiating from them. dark ears pinned slightly. a stream that ran from shadowclan territory down to the river, and they chose here to settle? decided that they could stand next to her and add to the scorch of the sun. something had to be done. "you're unbelievably hot," she grumbled, just before a white paw would sweep through the water to send large droplets airborne and right into the face of whoever decided to disturb her rare moment of peace. a grand solution handled with nothing but grace.

Hunting in the middle of a sweltering greenleaf day is hellish. Every pawstep through the bristling undergrowth feels leaden. Their patrol is likely coming back with little prey, for the mice seem to be underground, away from the scathing sun and scorching earth. Raccoonstripe’s thick, dark tabby pelt saps more sunlight than he can bear—and as much as he hates the idea of submerging himself in water, he nearly salivates as Nightbird locates a stream running through their territory.

He watches her sink burned pads in the shallowest parts of the creek, and he quickly follows suit, though perhaps he gets a bit too close for her liking. She gives him a dour look through silvery eyes and snaps, “You’re unbelievably hot.” Raccoonstripe gives her a winning smile. “So I’ve been told, thank you. But to hear it from you is so—“” He doesn’t get the chance to get the rest of his smarmy remark out, because a pawful of water splashes into his eyes and drips into his nose. It’s cool, and he’s shocked by the gesture—but he immediately emits a bark of surprise laughter. “Oh, you’ve asked for it!” He begins to hop up and down, creating enormous waves that crest and lap at the chests and bellies of the cats in the water.

The heat made the forest feel like it was engulfed in flames once more. However, this time the smoke was invisible...replaced by the suffocating humidity. She felt thick and heavy...each pawstep they got closer to the camp, the hotter it seemed to get. Their hunting patrol had been doomed from the start, the greeneleaf sun chasing the prey away instead of the predators that lived within the forest. The sun beat down on her as they padded through patches of sunlight. Once they were in she shade again, she cast a glance over her shoulder, almost wondering if she were wearing an actual pelt of flames.

The patrol stops at a stream, and she joins the rest of her clanmates along the edge. She dipped her alabaster paws into the water, resisting the urge to walk further in. As tempting as it may be, she hadn't stepped into water since the battle at Sunningrocks. This definitely wasn't the river...but she would rather be hot than wet. Her ears rotate as she listens to Nightbird and Raccoonstripe make friendly jabs at each other, and before she knows it, she hears various splashes, and waves lap at her legs.

She lifts her head, and watches as Raccoonstripe hops up and down. A mischievous grin forms on her muzzle, and she decided to join in on the fun. The fiery tabby dipped her front leg into the water, and attempted to swipe towards Nightbird, attempting to splash her while she was focused on Raccoonstripe. [/JUSTIFY]

APPLESTRIKE — he/him, 78 moons [ light brown tabby ]
It was a welcome relief to dip his paws in the water especially after walking through hot patches of sunlight. His paw pads had been prickling for some time but now they were treated to some much needed respite. However, whatever peace that might have been enjoyed was soon disturbed by the splashing fight going on among the lead warriors. The older warrior snorted a chuckle as he shook his head in disbelief. "Aye, the youth of today, what am I to do wee ya?" Applestrike remarked in jest as he positioned himself purposefully further away from the trio as to avoid being caught in the crossfire. He wasn't a fan of getting soaked, but he didn't wish to intrude on the fun. Everyone needed to blow off steam every so often, perhaps even more so on baking days such as the one they were experiencing now.

sleekpaw & 06 moons & genderfluid & he/she/they & thunderclan apprentice

Sleekpaw only watches as the adults begin to bicker amungst themselves, splashing water every which way. For a moment, he wonders if it feels nice, cold, but then he remembers his soft white pelt, and the thought of rumpling it now has him taking a few frantic steps back. She can't disagree though, the heat is strange and near unbearable, a vast difference from what she'd experienced as a kit during newleaf. They spare @KILLDEERCRY ; a nervous glance, but otherwise hold their tongue - it's not against the rules to have some fun on patrol after all, and they don't want to be a killjoy.

( ) Once they had reached the stream, Hailstorm had felt nothing but relief considering how hot and humid it has been lately. The snowy warrior having stepped into the waters to let his hot pawpads begin to cool, his head lowering down to the water as if to go for a drink but his intentions would not be known as a wave of water crashed into his face and legs. Hailstorm stumbling back as he spat out the water and whipping around to see that Raccoonstripe had done that, he used a paw to wipe off some of the wet from his face and shook himself out. Admittedly, that had felt nice and he didn't feel like he was burning up completely but there was no way that he was missing out on a potential splash fight.

Drawing a little bit near, the snowy warrior would his front limb and attempted to send a generous amount of water Raccoonstripe's direction, a large grin present on his dripping maw. If he managed that, he'd take a few steps back so he wouldn't get splashed back immediately after his own "attack" on the lead warrior.

luckily, whatever raccoonstripe is beginning to say gets cut off by her attack. water sprays onto his face, and with it she has started something unintended. there was a threat laced with mirth, and then the stream jolted alive. large waves rippled, leaping up onto her chest and further dousing her legs.

instinctively, she reared to pull her front end free of the splashing. a playfully narrowed gaze hones in on raccoonstripe, feathered tail twitching on the ground behind her. words from applestrike had her huffing a small laugh while she pondered how to get him back. perhaps a friendly dunking of his head would do the trick. but her mind was cut off when splashed from the other side. jaw slightly agape, nightbird feigned the utter pain of betrayal as she marked the fiery form of flamewhisker as her new attacker.

now going in with both paws, she dipped them back into the water, thrusting them out and in flamewhisker's direction. nightbird turned again, peering just over the black tabby beside her to see hailstorm pelting him with water from the other side. lips twitching upwards, she repeated her prior motion, this time sending in raccoonstripe's direction. "be smart and surrender before me and hailstorm really start kickin' tail." nightbird threatened teasingly, eyes shifting between raccoonstripe and flamewhisker.

The rest of the patrol, to his joy, is quick to either join in or observe the bit of fun between the warriors. Applestrike and Sleekpaw don’t wet their paws the way the rest of them do, but Flamewhisker picks a side, and it’s the right one. The ginger she-cat sends a pawful of water into Nightbird’s flank, and Raccoonstripe gives her a grin. “I always knew you and I were best friends,” he says, swaying his tail her direction in a show of allyship.

But Hailstorm, the hulking pale warrior, has chosen to be his enemy. The tom dips his heavy front half into the water and a wave forces itself over Raccoonstripe’s face. He gasps in mock-surprise. “You’ve chosen the wrong side, Hailstorm,” he says, giving Nightbird a fake-evil look through narrowed dark eyes. “Flamewhisker, let’s show them who’s boss!Raccoonstripe brushes the water from their attacks from his eyes and dips his muzzle beneath the surface. With precision, he spits the water in Nightbird’s direction.

Hailstorm sends a splash of water towards Raccoonstripe, and she chuckles and offers the tom a smile. She cast a glance at Applestrike and Sleekpaw, wondering what they were thinking right now. Four of their warriors were playing in the water like kits, and three of them were lead warriors. She couldn't remember the last time she had this much fun, the weight of responsibilities seemed to be getting washed off by the water. Before she could speak, Nightbird trust a wave of water her way. Her chest was dripping with water, and she would shook out her pelt, a plan to get everyone around her wet.

"Surrender? Never." She flashes Raccoonstripe a grin, and gives him a nod. He spits water towards Nightbird, but she had a far more devious plan in mind. This isn't a river...you will be fine. She turns and trots away, making it seem as though she were leaving their watery battle. Once she was far enough away, she turned around and started running towards the group. She then jumped, and pushed her paws forward, sending a wave to go in everyone's direction.
