the air was suffocatingly thick with afternoon heat. although the dense canopy offered shade, it did little to protect the hunting patrol from this sweltering weather. nightbird's pawsteps felt heavy on the way back to camp, her only catch being a young mouse did not help to make them lighter. but what was there to do. stay out longer whilst the fire that engulfed each breath grew hotter, and bring back a patrol of heat stroked warriors? it would serve the clan better to return now, rest until the sun dipped low.
camp was not far having passed the sandy hollow not long ago, yet the final stretch seemed daunting. a break would bid them all well. glancing around to familiarize with her surroundings amongst the haze, nightbird heard the soft lull of running water. the stream that ran through thunderclan's territory was not far, and despite the fact that she had yet to eat that day a sip of water sounded much more tantalizing than any prey.
quickly the patrol would reach it, pushed along by the promise of an oasis. once they did the molly would waste no time dipping her muzzle low to indulge in the crisp chill of the water. by no means was it as cold as the ice that froze over the land in leaf-bare, but for now it would do just fine. it was shallow at the bank, and as tempted as she was to dive under the surface nightbird settled for cooling her front paws as she drank.
there was a shadow next to her where another clanmate stood, she could practically feel the heat radiating from them. dark ears pinned slightly. a stream that ran from shadowclan territory down to the river, and they chose here to settle? decided that they could stand next to her and add to the scorch of the sun. something had to be done. "you're unbelievably hot," she grumbled, just before a white paw would sweep through the water to send large droplets airborne and right into the face of whoever decided to disturb her rare moment of peace. a grand solution handled with nothing but grace.

NIGHTBIRD ✩ she/her, lead warrior of thunderclan, twenty-three moons
⭃ nightbird is a small black smoke molly with pale silver eyes. a loner turned thunderclanner, her loyalty and drive to provide for her clan is unwavering. however, she is not known for harboring a bleeding heart, instead equipped with sarcastically fueled wit, brutal honesty, and a sharply edged tongue.
