Stars, what a terrible nightmare these past few moons had been. There seemed to be no respite from the tragedy, as if Thunderclan had been struck by some angry curse. Most days, though, it felt like she had been the one cursed. More than once in recent days, she had wondered if Starclan had abandoned her. Maybe she'd made too many mistakes in her youth, and they'd decided she was irredeemable. Destined for bitter loss and misery. Did any of the others feel that way too, or was it just her?
Palefire had been wanting to ask Gentlestorm for a while now. If he thought it was possible, that their ancestors might've truly given up on her. He would know; and even if he didn't, their giant of a medicine cat had always made her feel comfortable. He always seemed to see her for her best intentions, her heart, not her actions. She'd been spending a lot more time with him since the uprising, now that she was stuck in his den, and his company made the agony feel a bit less… agonizing.
The lynx point had slipped out when he was busy with his other patients, knowing he wouldn't like her up and about too much while she was still healing. But the warrior was growing restless, and she needed a break from the scent of herbs and damp earth. Just feeling the sunshine on her fur eased the darkness in her mind a bit, and she savored the short walk to the freshkill pile. Not wanting to be gone too long, for fear of being discovered, Palefire quickly snatched a plump robin and limped back to the little cave. As she was squeezing back in she ran into none other than Gentlestorm himself, a sheepish grin curling her mouth around the bird. She laid it at her paws, offering a shrug. "Would you like to take a break and eat with me?"
