pafp FIRST BLOOD ☾✩ prompt

her whole world felt as if it had been spinning out of hand. as a calculated and careful feline, she had become all too used to things going in her favor. it just made sense that way. diligence in your plans lead to success in your actions. it had given her a false sense of control, but fallacies were fickle. loss after loss had been taken, and there was nothing she could do to prevent it. the idea was driving her crazy. pondering what would hit them next had stolen her sleep and held her mind as a hostage.

it wasn't all a bad thing though, at least for the times that sleep defied her she could go out and hunt. it had been satisfying enough, but today she entered camp, paws and muscles aching for something else. her head still held high, but the signs of fatigue were present in the slight droop of her ears and tail, the redness tinging her silver gaze. that paired with the blood on her muzzle from her hunt made her look more of a beast than a cat. quickly, she deposited her catch and tried not to dwell on it's unimpressive state. food was food, she reminded herself, but it did not help the feelings of uselessness bubbling up inside of her.

she could not let it dwell, today she had another event lined up. almost as swift as she entered, nightbird left camp and made her way to the sandy hollow where she would meet sunfreckle. he was not an opponent she would ever pick out in battle, by size alone he had her beat. but she needed to do something, prove it to at least herself that her skills had not faltered, that she could defend against any opponent that stepped foot onto their land. her confidence was unwavering as she approached the lead warrior, tail twitching in anticipation behind her. "ready when you are," she uttered, taking a defensive stance in preparation.

//please wait for @Sunfreckle ;D

Truth be told he was a little nervous. Sure, he had been working on his skills in combat and was learning to use his size to his advantage and put an opponent down as swiftly as possible but he was still very unsure of himself. When they had faced ShadowClan trespassing he'd pinned the she-cat he'd fought for the duration of the conflict and she only got away because he had let her, a sharp bite to his only foreleg letting her wriggle away to flee back across the thunderpath. Sometimes he wonders if he shouldn't have killed her outright, but he's not a violent cat by any means. When push came to shove, Sunfreckle didn't want to end another's life when he could just subdue them but eventually he knew he might have no choice in defense of ThunderClan. When that time came he hoped he wasn't as nervous as he was simply squaring off with a clanmate in a spar.
"Hello Nightbird-" Right to business she was. Always calm and collected that one, he wondered if anything swayed the dark molly from her aloof demeanor and if it was just how scary was it; because it felt not a lot could shake her. "-oh, yes! Of course! I'm ready too.." Her stance was guarded, it was only now he was realizing how big he was and briefly worried hurting her by accident but Nightbird was a seasoned combatant and probably more experienced than him. If he pulled back at all she'd punish him for it, so he had to give it his all. His usual go-to was to brace himself and let his smaller, quicker opponents move first but she seemed disinclined to budge so he took it as incentive to make the first move himself.
Sunfreckle was not a fast cat, when he sprang forward he was not aiming to blind her with his agility but to carry enough momentum that when he reached her he could turn with a pivot and the weight of gravity would send him slamming his side into her to knock her off her footing hopefully.

she watched his charge, eyes flitting slowly to where she expected him to land. by the time her gaze returned to the ginger feline, she caught a flash of a turn, and then made contact. the impact had her paws tangling over each other in an attempt to stabilize her body, tail swishing behind her as she caught the breath pushed from her lungs. a deserving punishment for that idiotic idea. she didn't even know what she was thinking, didn't know what work existed where she would be able to tank a hit from sunfreckle. what he may have lacked in skills, was definitely made up for in size.

her whiskers twitched as adrenaline began running it's course. she felt more alert now, ears resuming a pricked position. her jaw was set as she raked her gaze over the lead warrior. it wasn't long until her still position was abandoned and she darted towards him, her paws clumsy as she moved. it was too late to back down now though. the last second, she would let her flank land on the ground in an attempt to slide under him, twisting to aim a kick to his ribs. either way, it would leave her in a vulnerable position, one she would usually never let herself be caught in. it didn't even cross her mind.
